Fuel economy is dependent on many factors. Your personal driving habits can have a sig-nificant effect on your fuel use. Several rec- ommendations for achieving the greatest fuel economy are listed below.  Whenever accelerating from a stop, always accelerate slowly and smoothly. When parked for even a short period, do not idle the engine. Shut it off.  Plan your trips to avoid unnecessary stops.  Keep your tires inflated to the recom- mended pressures. For freeway driving, maintain a speed of approximately 50 mph (80 km/h) when traffic, roadway and weather conditionssafely permit.  Keep your air filter clean and your vehicle lubricated according to the recommenda-tions in this manual.  Always keep your vehicle well main- tained. the quick defrosting
mode. Operating the air condition system weekly maintains lubrication of the compres-sor internal parts to keep the air conditioning in the best operating condition.

The air conditioning system is equipped withan air filter to remove pollen and dust.
The air filter’s ability to collect pollen and dirt is reduced as it becomes dirty, so replace it periodically. For the maintenance interval, refer to the “WARRANTY AND MAINTE-NANCE MANUAL”.

The audio system can only be used when the ignition switch is in the “ON” or “ACC” position.
CAUTION The air conditioning system in your vehicle must be charged with the refrigerant HFC- 134a and the lubricant SUN-PAG56. Use of any other refrigerant or lubricant will cause severe damage and may require replac-ing your vehicle’s entire air conditioning system. The release of refrigerant into the atmo-sphere is not recommended. The new refrigerant HFC-134a in your vehi- cle is designed not to harm the earth’s ozonelayer. However, it may contribute slightly to global warming. It is recommended that the old refrigerant besaved and recycled for future use.

 To listen to the audio system while the engine is not running, turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” position. If the ignition switch is left in the “ACC” position, the accessory power will automati-cally turn off after a
certain period of time
and you will no longer be able to use the audio system. The accessory power comeson again if the ignition switch is turned from the “ACC” position. Refer to “ACC power auto-cutout function” on page 5-54.  If a cellular phone is used inside the vehicle, it may create noise in the audio equipment.This does not mean that anything is wrong with your audio equipment. In such a case, use the cellular phone at a place as far awayas possible from the audio equipment.  If foreign objects or water get into the audio equipment, or if sm
oke or a strange odor
comes from it, immediately turn off the audio system and have it checked at anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. Never try to repair it yourself. Unlatch the prop from the engine hood and put it back in its retainer. Slowly lower the engine hood about 8 inches (20 cm), then let it drop from its own weight.

CAUTION Be careful not to trap your hands or fingers when closing the engine hood.  Make sure the engine hood is firmly closed before driving. If you drive without the engine hood com-pletely closed, it could open up while driv- ing.NOTE
 If this does not close the engine hood prop- erly, drop it again from a slightly higher position.
 Do not push down strongly on the engine hood. Depending on how strongly or where you push down, you could create a dent in the vehicle body.  If you drive with the engine hood left open, warning display is displayed on the informa- tion screen in the multi-information display.

The coolant reserve tank (A) lets you quicklysee when you need to add coolant. When theengine is cold, the level in the reserve tank should be between the “FULL” and “LOW” marks. The radiator usually stays full so thereis no reason to remove the radiator cap (B) except when you check the coolant freeze point or replace the antifreeze coolant.

The radiator cap must be tight sealed to pre- vent losing coolant which may result in engine damage. Only use a Genuine Mitsubi-shi Parts radiator cap, or an approved equiva- lent.  Do not overfill the reserve tank.
 Your vehicle uses a special radiator cap that stays sealed and lets the coolant flow from the reserve tank back to the radiator when the engine cools down. If you needto change the cap, use the exact same kind.  Check the coolant freeze point in the radi- ator with the proper gauge, and only when it is safe. If you add antifreeze, the con- tents of the reserve tank must be protectedagainst freezing.  Keep the front of the radiator and con- denser clean.  If the temperature of the engine coolant does not rise after th
e engine is warmed-
up, take your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice to have the thermostat checked, and replaced if necessary.

from use and not filter properly. Replace it with a new filter using the schedule in the“WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL”.
1. Remove the two clips (A), then remove the duct (B).
 Do not use water to adjust the concentration of coolant. Do not top off the tank with plain water only. Water by itself boils at a lower temperatureand does not stop rust
or freezing. If the
water freezes, it will damage your cooling system. Do not use tapwater. It can causecorrosion and rust.
Radiator cap
WA R N I N G Wait for the engine to cool down before opening the radiator cap. Otherwise hotsteam or boiling coolant could spray up from the radiator and scald you.

2. Except for vehicles equipped with turbo- charger, while holding down the tab (C), pull out the connector (D). 3. Unclamp and take out the air cleaner fil- ter.
4. Install the air cleaner filter and put the cover back on in its original position.
5. Put the duct back on in its original posi- tion.
