The SRS includes the following components:
WA R N I N G NEVER put REAR-FACING CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS or INFANT RESTRAINT SYSTEMS in the front pas- senger seat. This places the infant too close to the passenger airbag. Duringdeployment of the airbag, the infant can be seriously injured or killed. Rear-facing child restraint systems orinfant restraint systems must only be used in the rear seat.Airbag
WA R N I N G FRONT-FACING CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS should be used in the rear seat whenever possible. If they must be used in the front passenger seat, move the seat to the most rearward position and make surethe child stays in th

The driver’s seat position sensor is attachedto the seat rail and prov
ides the airbag control
unit with information on the seat’s fore-aft position. The airbag control unit controls deployment of the driver’s front airbag inaccordance with the information it receives from this sensor. If there is a problem involving the driver’sseat position sensor, the SRS warning in the instrument panel will come on. Refer to “SRS warning light/display” on page 4-29.

The passenger’s seat weight sensors areattached to the seat rails and provide the air- bag control unit with information regarding the weight on the front passenger seat. Theairbag control unit controls deployment of the passenger’s front airbag in accordance with the information it receives from this sensor.The passenger’s front airbag will not deploy in an impact when the weight on the seat is sensed to be less than approximately 66pounds (30 kg). In this case, the passenger’s airbag off indicator will come on. Refer to “Passenger’s airbag off indicator” onpage 4-28. If there is a problem involving the passen- ger’s seat weight sensors, the SRS warning inthe instrument panel will come on. Refer to “SRS warning light/display” on page 4-29.
Driver’s seat position sensor
WA R N I N G If the SRS warning comes on, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mit- subishi Motors dealer as soon as possible. Please observe the following instructions to ensure that the driver’s seat position sensor can operate correctly.• Adjust the seat to the correct position,and sit well back against the seatback. Refer to “Front seats” on page 4-3.• Do not recline the seatback more thannecessary when driving.
• Do not place metallic objects or luggage under the front seat.
 If the vehicle is involved in a severe impact, have the SRS sensor inspected byan authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible.
Passenger’s seat weight sensors

WA R N I N G If any of the following conditions occur, you should immediately have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible:• The SRS warning does not initially comeon when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” or “START” position.• The SRS warning does not go out afterseveral seconds.• The SRS warning comes on while you aredriving.
 To ensure that the passenger’s seat weight sensors can correctly sense the weightbeing applied to the seat, observe the fol- lowing instructions. Failure to follow these instructions can adversely affect the per-formance of the passenger’s airbag sys- tem.• Adjust the seat to the correct position,and sit well back against the seatback. Refer to “Front seats” on page 4-3.• Do not recline the seatback more thannecessary.• Never have more than one person (adultor child) sitting on the seat.• Do not place anything between the seatand the floor console.• Do not hang anything on the front pas-senger’s seatback.• Do not remove the head restraints.• When attaching a child restraint system,secure it firmly.

The driver’s airbag is located under the pad- ded cover in the middle of the steering wheel. The front passenger’s airbag is contained inthe instrument panel above the glove com- partment. The driver’s airbag and the front
passenger’s airbag are designed to deploy at the same time. However, the front passen- ger’s airbag does not deploy when the front passenger seat is not occupied or when theweight sensor in the front passenger seat senses a weight on the seat of less than approximately 66 pounds (30 kg).

While carrying the F.A.S.T.-key within the operating range, you can unlock the doorsand the rear hatch by F.A.S.T.-key operation. The dome light will turn on for 30 seconds. The turn signal lights will blink twice and thebuzzer will sound twice. Also refer to “Door locks”, “Power door locks” and “Rear hatch” on pages 5-36, 5-38 and 5-40 respectively. Press the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) to unlock only the driver’s door.Within about 2 seconds, press the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) one more time to unlock all the doors and rear hatch.
Press the front passenger’s door lock/unlock switch (B), or the rear hatch OPEN switch(C) to unlock all the doors and the rear hatch.

NOTE
 Settings can be changed so that all doors and rear hatch are unlocked automatically by pressing the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) once. Refer to “Setting of door and rear hatchunlock function” on page 5-32.NOTE
 If the doors and the rear hatch are unlocked when all doors and the rear hatch are locked and no doors or the rear hatch are opened within about 30 seconds, the doors and therear hatch will automatically re-lock.Front passenger’s door lock/unlock switch

 The amount of time after unlocking until the vehicle re-locks automatically can be adjusted. See an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for details.  In cases such as the following, the F.A.S.T.- key does not operate. • A door or the rear hatch is open or ajar • The ignition switch is in a position other than “LOCK” • The emergency key is inserted into the igni- tion switch
 The doors and the rear hatch cannot be unlocked by using the rear hatch OPEN switch for about 3 seconds after locking.  The time within which locking confirmation is possible can be adjusted. Your vehicle is equipped with an electroni- cally controlled fuel injection system. This isa system that automatically controls fuel injection. There is no need to depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.The starter motor should not be run for more than 15 seconds at a time. To prevent battery drain, wait a few secondsbetween attempts to restart the engine.
1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened. 2. Make sure the parking brake is applied. 3. Press and hold the brake pedal down withyour right foot. 4. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the way down (manual transaxle).
5. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position. On vehicles equipped with continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST, make sure the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin ClutchSST) is in the “P” (PARK) position. 6. While pushing the ignition switch from “LOCK” (PUSH OFF) to “LOCK” (PUSH ON), set the ignition switch to the “ON” position and confirm that all warn-ing lights and warning displays are oper- ating properly.
WA R N I N G Never run the engine in a closed or poorly ventilated area any longer than is needed to move your vehicle out of the area. Car- bon monoxide gas, which is odorless and extremely poisonous, could build up andcause serious injury or death.CAUTION Do not push-start the vehicle.Do not run the engine at high rpms or drive at high speeds until the engine has had a chance to warm up. Release the ignition switch as soon as the engine starts. Otherwise, the starter motorwill be damaged.
Starting the engine

NOTE
 For models equipped with a manual trans- axle, the starter will not operate unless theclutch pedal is fully depressed (Clutch inter- lock). This is a safety feature.
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with CVT, the starter will not operate unless the selector lever is inthe “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion. On vehicles equipped with Twin Clutch SST,the starter will not operate unless the gear- shift lever is in the “P” (PARK) position or the gearshift lever is in the “N” (NEUTRAL)position with the brake pedal depressed. For safety reasons, start the engine in the “P” (PARK) position so that the wheels arelocked.

5. Insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key. 6. Press and hold the brake pedal down with your right foot. 7. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the waydown (manual transaxle).
8. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position. On vehicles equipped with CVT or TwinClutch SST, make sure the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) is in the “P” (PARK) position. 9. Turn the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key to the “ON” position andmake certain that all warning lights and warning displays are functioning properly before starting the engine.
10. Turn the emergency key with the
F.A.S.T.-key to the “START” position without pressing the accelerator pedal.Release the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key when the engine starts.
11. Remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emer-
gency key.
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, the starter will not operate unless the clutchpedal is fully depressed (Clutch interlock). This is a safety feature.
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with CVT, the starter will not operate unless the selector lever is in the “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion.On vehicles equipped with Twin Clutch SST, the starter will not operate unless the gear- shift lever is in the “P” (PARK) position orthe gearshift lever is in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position with the brake pedal depressed.  Minor noises may be heard on engine start- up. These will disappear as the engine warms up. WA R N I N G Make sure to remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emergency key after the engine is started.If not removed, the F.A.S.T.-key could fall to the floor, which may interfere with pedal operation.Furthermore, the F.A.S.T.-key could pre- vent the driver’s knee airbag from inflat- ing normally or could be propelled tocause serious injury if the airbag inflates.NOTE
 If the emergency key is attached to a key ring, it may become impossible to insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key, and it may prevent the engine from being started.When using the emergency key to start the engine, first remove the key from the key ring.

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed.  One of the doors and the rear hatch is opened without using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation. The engine hood is opened.
When the alarm is activated: 1. The headlights blink on and off for 3 min- utes.After 3 minutes the headlights automati- cally shut off. 2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3minutes.
Type 1
Type 2 The alarm can be deactivated in the following ways.  By using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation to lock or unlock the door or rear hatch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion.

The system will be disarmed if the followingoperation is performed.  The ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position. All doors and the rear hatch are unlocked by the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
