The event data recorder in this vehicleis designed to record such data as:
•How various systems in your vehiclewere operating;
•Whether or not the driver andpassenger safety belts werebuckled/fastened;
•How far (if at all) the driver wasdepressing the accelerator and/orthe brake pedal; and
•How fast the vehicle was traveling;and
•Where the driver was positioningthe steering wheel.
This data can help provide a betterunderstanding of the circumstances inwhich crashes and injuries occur.
Note:Event data recorder data isrecorded by your vehicle only if anon-trivial crash situation occurs; no datais recorded by the event data recorderunder normal driving conditions and nopersonal data or information (e.g., name,gender, age, and crash location) isrecorded (see limitations regarding 911Assist and Traffic, directions andInformation privacy below). However,parties, such as law enforcement, couldcombine the event data recorder datawith the type of personally identifyingdata routinely acquired during a crashinvestigation.
To read data recorded by an event datarecorder, special equipment is required,and access to the vehicle or the eventdata recorder is needed. In addition tothe vehicle manufacturer, otherparties, such as law enforcement, thathave such special equipment, can readthe information if they have access tothe vehicle or the event data recorder.Ford Motor Company and Ford ofCanada do not access event datarecorder information without obtainingconsent, unless pursuant to court order
or where required by law enforcement,other government authorities or otherthird parties acting with lawfulauthority. Other parties may seek toaccess the information independentlyof Ford Motor Company and Ford ofCanada.
Note:Including to the extent that anylaw pertaining to Event Data Recordersapplies to SYNC or its features, pleasenote the following: Once 911 Assist (ifequipped) is enabled (set ON), 911 Assistmay, through any paired and connectedcell phone, disclose to emergencyservices that the vehicle has been in acrash involving the deployment of anairbag or, in certain vehicles, theactivation of the fuel pump shut-off.Certain versions or updates to 911 Assistmay also be capable of being used toelectronically or verbally provide to 911operators the vehicle location (such aslatitude and longitude), and/or otherdetails about the vehicle or crash orpersonal information about theoccupants to assist 911 operators toprovide the most appropriate emergencyservices. If you do not want to disclosethis information, do not activate the 911Assist feature. See SYNC™ (page 309).
Additionally, when you connect toTraffic, Directions and Information (ifequipped, U.S. only), the service usesGPS technology and advanced vehiclesensors to collect the vehicle’s currentlocation, travel direction, and speed(“vehicle travel information”), only tohelp provide you with the directions,traffic reports, or business searchesthat you request. Vehicle Settings and Personalization
See General Information (page 87).
Engine Coolant TemperatureGauge
Shows the temperature of the enginecoolant. At normal operating temperature,the needle will remain in the center section.If the needle enters the red section, theengine is overheating. Stop the engine,switch the ignition off and determine thecause once the engine has cooled down.
Note:Do not restart the engine until thecause of overheating has been resolved.
WARNING
Never remove the coolant reservoircap while the engine is running or hot.
Fuel Gauge
Note:The fuel gauge may vary slightlywhen your vehicle is moving or on a gradient.
Switch the ignition on. The fuel gauge willindicate approximately how much fuel isleft in the fuel tank. The arrow adjacent tothe fuel pump symbol indicates on whichside of your vehicle the fuel filler door islocated.
The needle should move toward F whenyou refuel your vehicle. If the needle pointsto E after adding fuel, this indicates yourvehicle needs service soon.
After refueling some variability in needleposition is normal:
•It may take a short time for the needleto reach F after leaving the gas station.This is normal and depends upon theslope of pavement at the gas station.
•The fuel amount dispensed into thetank is a little less or more than thegauge indicated. This is normal anddepends upon the slope of pavementat the gas station.
•If the gas station nozzle shuts offbefore the tank is full, try a differentgas pump nozzle.
Low Fuel Reminder
A low fuel reminder triggers when the fuelgauge needle is at 1/16th.

Note:Your vehicle may or may not beequipped with all the messages listed in thischapter. Your vehicle will not displaymessages of systems it is not equipped with.
Various systems on your vehicle can becontrolled using the information displaycontrols on the steering wheel.Corresponding information is displayed inthe information display.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNINGS
Do not overfill the fuel tank. Thepressure in an overfilled tank maycause leakage and lead to fuel sprayand fire.
The fuel system may be underpressure. If you hear a hissing soundnear the fuel filler door (Easy Fuelcapless fuel system), do not refuel untilthe sound stops. Otherwise, fuel may sprayout, which could cause serious personalinjury.
Automotive fuels can cause seriousinjury or death if misused ormishandled.
The flow of fuel through a fuel pumpnozzle can produce static electricity,which can cause a fire if fuel ispumped into an ungrounded fuel container.
Fuel ethanol and gasoline maycontain benzene, which is acancer-causing agent.
When refueling always shut theengine off and never allow sparks oropen flames near the filler neck.Never smoke or use a cell phone whilerefueling. Fuel vapor is extremelyhazardous under certain conditions. Avoidinhaling excess fumes.
Observe the following guidelines whenhandling automotive fuel:
•Extinguish all smoking materials andany open flames before refueling yourvehicle.
•Always turn off the vehicle beforerefueling.
•Automotive fuels can be harmful orfatal if swallowed. Fuel such asgasoline is highly toxic and ifswallowed can cause death orpermanent injury. If fuel is swallowed,call a physician immediately, even if nosymptoms are immediately apparent.The toxic effects of fuel may not bevisible for hours.
•Avoid inhaling fuel vapors. Inhaling toomuch fuel vapor of any kind can leadto eye and respiratory tract irritation.In severe cases, excessive or prolongedbreathing of fuel vapor can causeserious illness and permanent injury.
•Avoid getting fuel liquid in your eyes. Iffuel is splashed in the eyes, removecontact lenses (if worn), flush withwater for 15 minutes and seek medicalattention. Failure to seek propermedical attention could lead topermanent injury.
•Fuels can also be harmful if absorbedthrough the skin. If fuel is splashed onthe skin, clothing or both, promptlyremove contaminated clothing andwash skin thoroughly with soap andwater. Repeated or prolonged skincontact with fuel liquid or vapor causesskin irritation.
•Be particularly careful if you are taking“Antabuse” or other forms of disulfiramfor the treatment of alcoholism.Breathing gasoline vapors, or skincontact could cause an adversereaction. In sensitive individuals, seriouspersonal injury or sickness may result.If fuel is splashed on the skin, promptlywash skin thoroughly with soap andwater. Consult a physician immediatelyif you experience an adverse reaction.

FUEL QUALITY

Choosing the Right Fuel (GasolineVehicles)
Use only UNLEADED gasoline orUNLEADED gasoline blended with amaximum of 15% ethanol in your gasolinevehicle. If your vehicle is a Flex Fuel Vehicle(FFV), it will have a yellow bezel placedover the fuel fill inlet.
Do not use:
•Fuels containing more than 15%ethanol or E-85 fuel.
•Fuels containing methanol.
•Fuels containing metallic basedadditives, including manganese-basedcompounds.
•Fuels containing the octane boosteradditive, methylcyclopentadienylmanganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
•Leaded-fuel (The use of leaded fuel isprohibited by law).
Your vehicle was not designed to use fuelor fuel additives with metallic compounds,including manganese-based additives. Theuse of leaded fuel is prohibited by law.
Note:Use of any fuel other thanrecommended fuel can cause powertraindamage, impair the emission control systemor cause loss of vehicle performance. Anydamage to vehicle that is caused by use offuel not recommended will not be coveredunder warranty.

Octane Recommendations
2.5L engine
Regular unleaded gasoline with a pump(R+M)/2 octane rating of 87 isrecommended. Some fuel stations offerfuels posted as regular with an octanerating below 87, particularly in high altitudeareas. Fuels with octane levels below 87are not recommended.
1.6L and 2.0L EcoBoost® engines
