This reminder appears along with the l!I sym­
bol if the master key is removed from the ve­
hicle with the engine running. It is intended
to remind you (e.g. when changing drivers)
not to continue the journey without the mas­
ter key.
If the master key is no longer in the vehicle,
you cannot switch off the ignition after stop­
p in g the engine and you also cannot start the
engine again . You also cannot lock the vehicle
from the outside.

El Automatic headlights / automatic wipers
defective
If the symbol illuminates, the light sensor has
failed. For safety reasons the low beams are
turned on permanently with the switch in
AU­
T O . However, you can continue to turn the
lights on and off using the lig ht switch. In the
case of a defect in the rain sensor, the w ind­
shield w iper lever functions are st ill available.
H ave the light/ra in sensor checked as soon as
possible by an autho rized Aud i deale r.

Vehicle lights: System fault!
If the message appears, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or light switch.
Drive to your authorized A udi dealer immedi­
ate ly to have the malfunction corrected.
A WARNING
- Light bulbs are press urized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights*. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury .

Using the sun visors makes driving safer.

The sun visors for the driver and passenger
can be pulled out of their brackets in the cen­
ter of the vehicle and turned towards the
doors

Vanity mirror
The vanity mirrors on the sun visors are cov­
ered. When the lid is opened @, the m irror
light in the headliner turns on automatically .
It turns off when the lid is closed and the visor
is folded up again.

Move the windshield w iper lever to the corre­
sponding position:

tomatically activates when you drive 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivity of the rain
sensor is set (sw itch @to the right), the ear li­
er the windsh ield wipers react to moisture on

droplets, the windsh ield wiper performs one
afterwipe operation after severa l seconds

while driving. You can switch this function off by moving the lever to position ® within 10
seconds of the afterwipe operation. The after­
wipe function is reactivated the next time the ignit ion is switched on.
The rear wiper automatically switches on
when the reverse gear is engaged and the
front w indshield wipers are on and in opera ­
tion .
C lea ning the headlights *. The headlight wash ­
er system * operates on ly when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to pos ition ®,
the headlights are washed in interva ls .
® -Wipe the rear window. The rear wiper
moves about every 4 seconds .
0-Clean the rear window. The number of
wiping operations depends on how long the l ever is held in positio n 7.
A WARNING
-The ra in sensor is only intended to assist
the driver. The driver is still responsible
for man ually sw itching the w ipers on ac­
cording to the v is ibility conditions.
- The windshie ld may not be treated w ith
water-repe lling windshie ld coat ing
agents. Unfavorable conditions, such as
wetness, darkness, low sun, can res ult in
increased glare. W iper b lade chatter is
also possible .
- Proper ly functioning w indshie ld w iper
blade s are required fo r a clear view and
sa fe dr iv ing .

-In the case of frost, check whether the
windsh ield wiper b lades a re fro zen to
t h e windshie ld. Swit ching on the wind ­
s h ield wipers can d amage t he wipe r
blades!
- Prior to using a car w ash, the windshield
wipe r system m ust be swit ched off (lever
i n position 0) . This helps to prevent unin­
tentiona l switching on and damage to
the windshie ld w iper system.

- The windshie ld w ipers are switched off
when the ign it ion is tu rned off . Act ivate
the windsh ield wipers after the ignition
is switc hed back on by moving t he wind­
shield wipe r lever to any position .
- Worn or d irty windshield wiper blades
result in streaking. This ca n affect the
rai n sensor function. Check your wind­
shield w iper blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozz les of the wind­
shield washe r system a re heated at low
tempe rat ures whe n the ignition is on .
- When stopping temporarily, e .g. at a
t raffic light, the set spe ed of the wind­
shield wiper s is automatically reduced by
one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
C lean the w indsh ie ld w iper blades when t hey
begin to leave st reaks.

Removing the wip er blade
• Lift the windshie ld wiper arm up from the
windshield .
• Press the locking knob@~
fig. 55 on the
wiper blade. Hold the wiper blade firm ly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direction of
the arrow.
Attach ing th e wiper bl ade
• Inse rt the new wiper blade into the moun t
on the w iper arm @until you hear it latch
into place.
• Place the wiper arm back on the windshield.
• Turn the service position
off.
A WARNING
-
For your safety, you should replace the
w iper blades once or tw ice a year. See your
author ized Audi dealer for rep lacement
blades.
(D Note
- The windshield wiper blades must only
be replaced when in the service position!
Otherwise, yo u risk damaging the paint
on the hood or the w indshield wiper mo­
tor. -
You should not
move your veh icle or
press the windshield wiper lever when
the wiper arms are folded away from the
windshield. The windshie ld wipers wou ld
move back into their original position
and could damage the hood and wind­
shield.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper sys­
tem, always loosen blades wh ich are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers.
- To help prevent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gaso line, kerosene, paint
t hinner, or o ther solven ts on o r near the
w iper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper
arms o r other components, do not at­
tempt to
move t he wipe rs by hand.

- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affec t the how easily
the glass surfa ce ca n be cleaned.
- Yo u can also use the se rvice position, for
examp le, if yo u want to protect the
w indshield from icing by us ing a
cover.

job if the incl ine is icy or if the incline ground

The system does not work at speeds between
19 and 37 mph (30 and 60 km/h). The system
is then in the ready-mode. The diode in the
button will come on . The system automatical­
ly switched
off when you drive faster than 37
mph (60 km/h) . The diode will go out in this
case.

Hill descent assist is automatica lly act ivated
under the following cond itions:
- the diode in the button illuminates,
- vehicle speed is be low approximate ly
19 mph (30 km/h)
- the incline is 10%.
A WARNING
-Always adapt your speed to the weather,
road and traffic conditions . Do not let
the increased safety provided tempt you
into taking r isks.
- The hill descent assist system cannot
overcome the laws of physics. Your driv­
ing style must always be adapted to the
current road and traffic conditions.
- The hill descent assist may not be able to
hold your vehicle at a constant speed un­
der all condit ions wh ile driving on an in­
cl ine (for example if ground under the
vehicle is loose).
Brake system
Operating conditions and driving habits
The brakes on today's automobiles are st ill
subject to wear, depending largely on operat­
ing conditions and dr iv ing habits ¢& . On
veh icles that are e ither driven mostly in stop­
and-go city traffic o r are driven hard, the
brake pads should be checked by your author- ized Audi dealer more often
than specified in
the
Warranty & Maintenance booklet. Failure
to have your brake pads inspected can result
in reduced brake performance.
On steep slopes, you should use the braking
effect of the engine. This way, you prevent un­
necessary wear on the brake system. If you
must use your brakes, do not hold the brakes
down cont inuously. Pump the brakes at inter­
vals .
Noises may occur when braking depending on
the speed, braking force and outside condi­
tions such as temperature and humidity.
Moisture or road salt
Under certain conditions, for example, when
driving through water or very heavy rain, or
even after washing your vehicle, the braking
effect can be reduced due to moisture (or in
freezing cond itions ice) on the brake pads. A
few careful brake applications should dry
off
the brake pads or remove any ice coatings .
When you are driving at higher speeds with
the windshield wipers on, the brake pads will
briefly touch the brake discs in regular inter ­
vals so as to improve reaction time when brak­
ing on wet surfaces. You, the driver, will not
notice anything.
The effectiveness of the brakes can be reduced
when the vehicle is driven on a salt-covered
road and the b rakes are not used. Here too,
you should clean
off accumulated sa lt coating
from brake discs and pads with a few careful
applications of the brake ¢& .
Corrosion
The re may be a tendency for dirt to build up
o n the brake pads and corrosion to form on
the discs if the car is not driven regularly or
only for short trips with littl e use of the
brakes.
If the brakes a re not used frequently, o r if cor­
rosion has formed on the discs, it is adv isable
to clean
off the pads and discs by braking
firmly a few times from a modera tely high
speed ¢£ .

Vehicle care and clean ing
General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your
vehicle 's value. It can also be a requirement
when submitting warranty claims for corro ­
sion damage and paint defects on the body .
The required cleaning and care products can
be obtained from your authorized Audi dealer
or a qualified workshop . Read and follow the
instructions for use on the packaging.

-Us ing clean ing and care products incor­
rectly can be dangerous to your hea lth.
- Always store cleaning and care products
out of reach of children to reduce the risk
of poisoning.

-Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
- Do not d ispose of leftover cleaning and
care products with household trash .
Car washes
-
The longer that deposits such as insects, bird
droppings, tree sap or road salt remain on the
vehicle, the more the surface can be dam­ aged. High temperatures such as those
caused by sunlight increase the corrosive ef­
fect.
Before washing, wet heavy deposits w ith plen­
ty of water.
Also, wash the underside of your vehicle once road salt stops be ing used for the season.
Pressure washers
When washing your vehicles with a pressure
washer, always follow the operating instruc­
tions provided w ith the pressure washer . Th is
is especially important in regard to the pres ­
sure and spraying distance. Do not aim the
spray directly at seals on side w indows, doors,

the hood, the rear lid or the sunroof* or at
tires, rubber hoses, insulating material, sen­ sors* or camera lenses* . Keep a distance of at
least 16 inches (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washer.
Never use rotary nozzles or high pressure noz­
zles.
The water temperature must not be above
140 °F (60 °C) .
Automatic car washes
Spray off the vehicle before washing.
Make sure that the windows and roof* are
closed and the windshield wipers are
off. Fol­
low instructions from the car wash operator,
especially if there are accessories attached to
your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes .
Washing by hand
Clean the vehicle starting from the top and
working down using a soft sponge or cleaning
brush. Use solvent-free cleaning products.
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint
by hand
To avoid damaging the paint when washing,
first remove dust and large particles from
your vehicle. Insects, grease spots and finger­ prints are best removed with a special cleaner
for matte finish paint.
Apply the product using a microfiber cloth. To
avoid damaging the paint surface, do not use
too much pressure .
Rinse the vehicle thoroughly with water. Then
clean using a neutral shampoo and a soft mi­
crof iber cloth.
Rinse the vehicle thoroughly again and let it
air dry . Remove any water residue using a
shammy.
Stubborn deposits such as bi rd droppings or
tree sap are best removed with plenty of wa-
ter and a microfiber cloth.

- To reduce the risk of being burned, never
open the hood if you see or hear steam
or coolant escaping from the eng ine
compartment . Wait unt il no steam or
coolant can be seen or heard before care­

the struts is reduced.

Do not try to push it shut; it may fail to en­

A hood that is not completely latched
could fly up and block your view while dr iv­
ing.
- When you close the engine hood, check it
to make sure the safety catch has proper­
ly engaged. The hood should be flush
with the surround ing vehicle body parts.
- If you notice while driv ing that the hood
is not secured properly, stop at once and
close it .
Working in the engine compartment
Be especially careful whenever you work in
the engine compartment.
