0 Alternator malfunction
If the . symbol in the instrument panel d is
play flashes, then there is a malfunction in the
alternator or the vehicle electronics. A warn
i ng to the driver w ill appear, too . The driver
warn ing goes out after about 5 seconds, but it
can be brought up at any time by pressing the
ISE TI button again .
Usually, you can still d rive to the next dealer
ship . Turn off all but the most necessary elec
tr ica l consumers, since these d ra in the ve hi
cle's battery.

If the . warning symbo l (coolant system
malfunct io n) also lights up on the inst ru
men t pa nel d uring the t rip

t hen you have to stop immediately and
turn off the eng ine. The coolant pump is
not working anymore -danger of damage
to the eng ine!
BRAKE/C CD) Brake system malfunction
A malfunction in the brake system must be
repaired as soon as possible.
If the warning /indi cator light 11111 (USA
models)/ . (Canada mode ls) in the instru
ment cluster flashes, there is a brake system
malfunct ion. A dr iver message appears as
well to explain the malfunction in more de
tail. The driver warning goes out after about 5
seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by pressing the
I SET I button aga in.

function may have failed. Functions that stabilize the vehicle a re no longer avai la
ble. This could ca use the vehicle to

_ t Engine cooling system malfunction
A malfunct ion in the engine cooling system
must be repaired as soon as possible .
If the . symbo l flashes in the d isplay, either
the eng ine coolant
temperature is too h igh or
the engine coolant
level is too low . A driver
m essage appea rs as we ll to exp lain the mal
function in more detail. The driver warning
goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by press ing the
ISETI
button again .
Turn off engine and check coolant level
• Pull off the road.
• Stop the vehicle .
• Turnoff the engine.
• Check coolant leve l

any wor k in the engine compartment,
t ur n of the eng in e and allow it to cool.

T he red engine oil pressure warning symbol
requires immediate service or repair. Driving with a low oil pressure indication is likely to
cause severe engine damage .
If the . symbo l on the disp lay flashes, the
engi ne oil pressure is too low. A driver mes
sage appears as we ll to exp la in the malfunc

- The engine oil pressure symbol. is
not an indicator for a low eng ine oil lev
el. Do not rely on it. Instead, check the
oil level in your engine at regular inter
vals, preferably each time you refuel, and always before going on a long trip .

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with remote control. A mechanical key is integrat
ed in the master key

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not carry
it on your key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle
c::;, page 11. This allows
you to make sure you have received all of the
keys when you purchase a used vehicle. De
pending on the vehicle equ ipment level, this
function may also be performed in the MM!* .
To do this, select:
ICARI funct ion button> Car
systems * control button > Servicing & checks
> Programmed keys .
Data in the master key
During driving, serv ice and maintenance-rele
vant data is continuously stored on your mas
ter key. Your Audi serv ice adv iser can read out this data and
tell you about the work your ve
hicle needs . This applies also to vehicles with
Convenience key *.
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key. When the ignition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
convenience settings for the following sys
tems are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate control
- Central locking system
- Sea t memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
-Audi drive select*
T he stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when yo u open
the doors or when you turn on the ignit ion .
A WARNING ......... -
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended
wit h the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi
cle. A lways lock all doors and take the
key.
- Do not leave children unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys
tems such as the power windows etc. Un
supervised operation of any vehicle sys
tem by children can result in serious in
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the veh icle has come to a com
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col
umn lock could suddenly engage -caus
ing the r isk of an accident.

If the engine has been under heavy load
for an extended period, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine
is switched off -there is a risk of damaging
the engine. Allow the engine to run at idle
for about two minutes before switching it
off.

Switching the ignition on/off
If you wou ld like to switch the ignition o n
without starting the engine, follow these
steps :

without pressing the brake peda l. ..
To switch the ignition off, press the button
again.
Diesel vehicles* are preheated while the ign i
tion is switched on.
When starting the engine, major elect rical
loads are switched off temporari ly.
If the engine should not start immediately,
the start ing process is automat ica lly stopped
after a short t ime. Repeat start ing procedure.

A WARNING
-
- Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiat ion.
- Always take the key w ith you whenever
you leave your veh icle. Otherw ise, the
engine could be sta rted or electrical
equ ipment su ch as the power windows
could be operated. This can lead to seri
ous injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es
caping from the vehicle on their own in
the event of an emergency. Depending
on the time of year, people inside the ve
h icle can be exposed to very high or very
low temperatures.

Avoid high engine rpm, full throttle and
heavy engine loads until the engine has
reached operating temperature -other
wise you risk eng ine damage .

Do not let the engine run wh ile parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately . This
reduces unnecessary emissions .

Shift to N or P to start engine
This message appears when attempting to
start the engine if the selector lever for the
automatic transmission is not in the P or N
position . The engine can o nly be started w ith
the selector in these pos itions.
I!) Is the key in the vehicle?
This message appears in a veh icle with Con
venience key* if the master key is removed
from the vehicle w ith the engine running . If
the master key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch on the ignition after stopping
the eng ine and you also cannot start the en
g in e again. Moreover, you cannot lock the ve
hicle from the o utside with the key .
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.
This message appears fo r safety reasons
a long w ith a warning signa l. It appears if the
selector lever for the automatic transm iss ion
is not in the P position when switch ing off the
ig nit ion. Move the selector lever to the P pos i
tion, otherwise the veh icle is not sec ured
against rolling away. You also cannot lock the
vehi cle using the locking button* on the door
handle or using the remote key.
Turn off ignition before leaving car
This message appears if the driver's door is
opened while the ignition is switched on . Al
ways sw itch off the ignition if you are leaving
the vehicl e. See also

Shift to P and turn off ignition, otherwise ve
hicle can roll away
This message appears if the driver's door is
opened while the ignition is switched on and
the selector lever is not in the P position. Shift
the selector lever into the P position and switch off the
ignition when you exit the vehi
cle. Otherwise the vehicle could roll . See also
~ page 92.
Convenience key defective! Use ignition lock
This message appears if the engine must be
sta rted o r stopped using the ign ition key and
not the
I START ENGINE STOP I* button .
Electromechanical
parking brake
' Operation
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

.,. Step on the brake pedal or the accelerator
pedal and press the switch at the same time
to re lease the parking brake. The ind icator
light in the sw itch goes out.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome
chanical parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling
unintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
In add ition to the normal functions of a tradi
tiona l hand brake, the electromechanical
parking brake provides various convenience
and safety funct ions .
When starting from rest
-The integral starting assist helps yo u when
driving by automatica lly releasing the park-
ing brake

-When starting on inclines, the starting as
sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional
ly rolling back. The braking force of the
parking brake is not released until sufficient
driv ing force has been built up at the
wheels .
Emergency brake function
An emergency brake ensures that the vehicle
can be slowed down even if the
normal brakes

Indicator light s
-If the parking brake is closed with the igni
tion
s witched on the indicator lights come

the instrument cluster and the switch.
- If the parking brake is closed with the igni
tion

on . (USA mode ls)/ . (Canada mode ls) in
the instrument cluster and the switch for
about 20 seconds.
A WARNING
If a drive range is engaged with the veh icle
stat iona ry and the engine running, you
must in no instance accele rate ca re lessly.
Otherw ise the vehicle will sta rt to move
immediately -risk of an accident .

is the risk of an acc ident.
- When the veh icle is locked, no one -par
ticularly not children should rema in in
the vehicle. Locked doors make it more difficult for emergency workers to get in
to the vehicle -putting lives at risk.
Starting from rest
The starting assist function ensures that the
parking brake is released automatically upon
starting .
