@ Master key with remote control and
integrated mechanical key
You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with remote control. A mechanical key is integrat­
ed in the master key
c::;, page 3 7.
@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not carry
it on your key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa­
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle
c::;, page 11. This allows
you to make sure you have received all of the
keys when you purchase a used vehicle. De­
pending on the vehicle equ ipment level, this
function may also be performed in the MM!* .
To do this, select:
ICARI funct ion button> Car
systems * control button > Servicing & checks
> Programmed keys .
Data in the master key
During driving, serv ice and maintenance-rele­
vant data is continuously stored on your mas ­
ter key. Your Audi serv ice adv iser can read out this data and
tell you about the work your ve­
hicle needs . This applies also to vehicles with
Convenience key *.
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key. When the ignition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
convenience settings for the following sys­
tems are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate control
- Central locking system
- Sea t memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
-Audi drive select*
T he stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when yo u open
the doors or when you turn on the ignit ion .
A WARNING ......... -
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended
wit h the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle. A lways lock all doors and take the
key.
- Do not leave children unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­
supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in serious in­
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the veh icle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
umn lock could suddenly engage -caus­
ing the r isk of an accident.

The alarm also turns off when the alarm cycle
has expired.
Turn signals
When you unlock the vehicle, the turn signals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle , the
turn signals flash once. If they do not flash,
one of the doors, the rear lid or the hood is
not locked.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to
prevent you locking your remote master key in
the vehicle:
- The vehicle does not lock with the power
locking switch ¢
page 42 if the driver's
door is open.
- On vehicles with Convenience key* , if the
most recently used master key is in the lug­
gage compartment, the rear lid is automati­
cally unlocked again after it is closed.
Do not lock your vehicle with the
remote mas­
ter key or Convenience key*
until all doors
and the rear lid are closed. In this way you
avoid locking yourself out accidentally.
A WARNING
- When you leave the vehicle, always re­
move the ignition key and take it with
you. This will prevent passengers (chil­
dren, for example) from accidentally be­
ing locked in the vehicle should they acci­
dentally press the power locking switch
in the front doors .
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unsupervised . In an emergency it would
be impossible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
@ Tips
- In the event of a crash with airbag de ­
ployment all locked doors will be auto­
matically unlocked to give access to the
vehicle occupants from the outside .
-If the power locking system should mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door
using the mechanical key ¢
page 42.

- If the power locking system should fail,
you can still open the fuel tank flap in an
emergency ¢
page 22 7.
- You are well advised not to keep valua­
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not. Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door panel comes on for about
30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
is a malfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system . Have the
malfunction corrected by an authorized
Audi dealership or qualified repair facili­
ty.
Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for
power locking in the radio or in the
MM!*.

Unlocking single door/Unlock doors -
you can
specify which doors unlock when you open the
vehicle.
- Selecting
Off/All and pressing the [®] button
on the remote control key unlocks the entire
vehicle.
- Selecting
On/Driver and pressing the~ but­
ton on the remote control key once unlocks
only the driver's door. In vehicles with a con­
venience key*, only the door whose handle
you pull will unlock. If you press the~ but­
ton twice, the entire vehicle will unlock. If
you press the~ button, the entire vehicle
will always lock .
Trunk lid/tailgate/Lock exterior trunk handle
-if you select On , the rear lid handle locks

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear
lid or the hood is opened within 60 seconds,
the vehicle locks itself again automatically.
This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidenta lly left unlocked over a long period
of time.
It depends on the settings in the radio or in
the MMI* whether the entire vehicle is un­
locked or only certain doors
¢ page 39.
On vehicles with Convenience key*, the selec­
tor lever must be in the P position, otherwise
the vehicle cannot be locked.

(D Tips
- In order to make sure the locking f unc­
tion is working, you should a lways keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked.
-
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherw ise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
th e un lock button@.
- Use the panic function only if you are in
an eme rgency situation.
Locking and unlocking with Convenience
key
Appl ies to vehicles: wi th Conve nience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key .

Unlocking vehicle
.. Take hold of the door handle. The door is un­
locked automatically.
.. Pull the handle to open the door .

-Always ensure that no one is with in
range of the rear lid when it is mov ing, in
particular close to the h inges and the up­
per and lower edges - fingers or hands
can be p inched.
- To help prevent po isonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while dr iv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit comp letely into the lug­
gage are a, because then the rear lid can­
not be fully closed.
- Never leave you r vehicle unattended es­
pecially wi th the rear lid left open. A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becom ing trapped and unab le to
get out. To reduce the risk of persona l in­
jury, never let children p lay in or around
your vehicle . A lways keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not in use.
- If there is a luggage rack or bicycle rack mounted on the rear lid, it may not be
able to open completely or an opened
rear lid may close by itself because of the
added weight . So t he open rear lid must
be s upported or the weight must be re­
moved from the luggage rack first .
(1) Tips
-As soon as the electrical connection to
the trailer socket is completed on
vehicles with a factory installed tow ing
hitch, or a trailer hitch that was installed
l ater according to factory spec ifications,
the automatic rear lid function can only be operated via the handle in the rear lid.
- If the vehicle battery charge drops below
a certain level, you can still open or close
the rear lid manually, however, you will
need to apply more force to close it .
- If the rear lid on a locked vehicle is un­
locked with the m iddle button
c::; on the
remote key, the rear lid is automatically
l ocked again immediately after clos ing .
This is in dicated by the tu rn signals
bl inking .

- The following applies to vehicles equip ­
ped with the Convenience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug­
gage compartment, luggage compart­
ment w ill automatically unlock itself af­
ter you lock the vehicle . Th is prevents
you from unintentionally lock ing you r
key in the luggage compartment.
Emergency unlocking

.. Fold the windshield wiper arm back onto the

A WARNING
For safety reasons, the windshield wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice
each year.

Tilt function for the passenger 's mirror*
When the reverse gea r is engaged, the mir ro r
s ur face tilts downward sl igh tly if the sett ing
i s for the passenge r's m irror (knob in pos it ion

c::> fig . 57). This a llows you to see the c urb
dur ing parallel pa rking.
T he m irror returns to its ini tial position as
soon as reverse gea r is disengaged and veh icle
s p eed is above about 9 mph (15 km/h) . The
mirror also returns to its init ial position if the
switch is moved to the dr iver's exterior m irror
© or the ignition is sw itched off.
If the position of the mirror surface is
c hanged on a tilted mirror, this new position
will be a utomatically ass igned to the remote
key w hen the veh icle is taken out of reverse
gear.
(D Note
- Curved mirror s urfaces (conve x or spheri­
cal*) increase yo ur field of v iew. Remem­
ber that vehicles or other objects will ap­
pear smaller and farther away than when
seen in a flat m irror. If you use this mir ­
ror to estimate dis tances of following
vehicles whe n cha nging lanes, y ou coul d
es tim ate incorrec tly and c ause an ac ci­
dent .
- I f the m irro r h ousing is moved uninten­
ti onally (for e xam ple, w hile p arking yo ur
vehicle), then yo u must first fold the mir ­
ror elect rically . Do not read just the mir­
ror housing man ually . You cou ld damage
the motor which controls the mirror.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic
car was h, you must fold the exterior mir­
rors in to reduce the risk of damage to
the mirrors . Never fold power fo lding ex­
terior mirrors* by hand . Only fo ld them
in and o ut using th e power controls .

Digital compass
Activating or deactivating the compass
Applies to vehicles: with digital compass
The direction is displayed on the interior rear
view mirror.

.,.. To activate or deactivate, hold the® button
down until the red disp lay appears or disap­
pears.
The digital compass only works with the igni­
tion turned on. The directions are displayed as
in itia ls:
N (North), NE (Northeast), E (East),
SE (Southeast), S (South), SW (Southwest),
W (West), NW (Northwest).

To avo id inaccurate directions, do not al­
low any remote controls, electrical sys­
tems, or metal parts close to the mirror. Clear vision 59

The correct
magnetic deflection zone must be
set in order to display the directions correctly.

peatedly pressing on the ® button. The set
mode automatically deact ivates after a few
seconds.
Calibrating the compass
Applies to vehicles: with digital compass
The compass has to be recalibrated if the dis­
play is wrong or inaccurate .
.,.. Hold the ® button down un til the letter C is
disp layed on the interior rear view mirror .
.,.. Dr ive in a circle at a speed of about 6 mph
(10 km/h) unti l a direction is shown on the
interior rear view mirror.

Seat memory
Memory for driver's seat
Applies to vehicles: with seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers
can be stored using the memory buttons in
the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat,
the exterior rear view mirror setting can be
stored and recalled through seat memory if
the vehicle is properly equipped.
Storing and recalling settings
With the help of the memory buttons 1 and 2
c::> fig. 62 the settings for two different dr ivers
can be stored and recalled
c::> page 63.
The current settings are also automatically as­
signed to the remote control key being used
when the vehicle is locked . When the vehicle
is unlocked, the settings assigned to the re ­
mote contro l key being used are automatically
recalled.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the IOFFI switch is depressed, the seat
memory is inope rative. When the Memory
function is off , the LED in the button lights up.
A ll the stored settings are retained. We rec­
ommend using the
I OFFI switch and deactivat­
ing the seat memory if the vehicle is only go­
ing to be used
temporarily by a driver whose
settings are not going to be stored.

When the vehicle is locked , the current set­
tings are stored and assigned to the remote
control key. But the settings stored on
memo­
ry buttons 1 to 2 are not deleted. They can be
recalled at any time. When the vehicle is
un­
locked ,
the settings assigned to the remote
control key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using
your remote control key, you should save your
individual seat position on one of the memory
buttons. You can recall your settings again
s imply and conveniently by press ing the corre­
sponding memory button . When the vehicle is
locked, these settings are automatically re-as­
signed to the remote control key and stored.
A WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat setting can
only be recalled when the vehicle is sta­
tionary -otherwise yo u risk having an ac­
cident.
- In an emergency the recall p rocedure can
be cancelled by pressing the
IOFFI switch
or by tapping of the memory buttons.
