The tachometer indicate s the engine RPM

If engine R PM drops be low 1,500, you should
downshift to the nex t lower gea r. T he red a rea

ermissible engine RPM after the break- in pe
r iod. Before reaching this a rea , move these
l ector lever to position D/S o r ease your foot
off the acce lerator pedal.

Power Control) illuminates when you turn on

W Glow plug system

The control Light illuminates when the glow
plug system is active .
If them indicator light illumi nates, the g low
plug system is act ive . You should start the en
gine immediately after the ind icator light
swit ches off. The ind ic ator lig ht only i llum i
na tes fo r approxim ate ly 1 second if the en
gine is warm or if the outs ide temperature is
above 46 QF (8 QC).

- If the ind icator light does not illuminate
at a ll when switching the ign ition on,

The indicator light also blinks if the turn sig
nal is operated when towing a trailer .
The indicator ligh t. blinks when the t urn
signal is used, if a trailer has bee n properly
connected to the vehicle .
If one of the turn s ignal bulbs on the tra ile r i s
bu rned out or defective, the indicato r light
will not b link when you use the turn signals.

a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The symbol
¢"lift lights up when the ignit ion is
turned on and will turn off after the engine
has started and has sett led at a constant idle
speed. Th is ind icates that the MIL is working
p roperly .
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunct ion in the engine e lectronic system. Contact your a

the malfunction corrected .

warning/indicator light illuminates when the
cruise control is activated .
ABS/(@) Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL).
The fJ] (USA models) ; ri] (Canada mode ls)
warning/indicator light will come on for a few
seconds when the ignition is switched on. The
light will go out after an automatic check se
quence is completed.
There is a malfunct ion in the ABS when:
- The warning/indicator light does not illum i
nate when you switch on the ignition.
- The warning/indicato r light does not go o ut
after a few seconds.
- The warning/indicato r light i lluminates
wh ile driving.
The brak e system will still re spond e ven
without the assistance of the ABS system.

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due .

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
according ly . The display works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv
i ce reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ignition

Afte r about 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The distance and time re
maining are updated each time the ignition is
turned on until the date due for service is
reached.
Service due
When the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appears in the instru
ment cluster immediately after you turn on
the ignition. Additionally, a warn ing tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the display
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspect ion is due,
can be shown in the radio or MMI* display by
selecting the serv ice interval display in the car
menu. Select

the veh icle m ileage is low.

- Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display will be in
correct .
- The information in the Service Reminder
remains stored even when the vehicle
battery is disconnected .
Electronic speed
limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equipped with
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of
130 mph (210 km/h) . This is less than the
maximum speed of your vehicle . To reduce the
risk of sudden tire failure and loss of control if
the vehicle is ope rated at excessive speeds,
your vehicle also has an elect ronic speed limit
er. The electronic speed limiter prevents your
ve hicl e from going faster than the tire speed
rating. For more information

If the engine control unit receives faulty vehi
cle road speed signals, the Malfunction Ind i
cator Lamp (MIU¢• will illuminate .
If this
occurs, contact the nearest authorized Audi
dea ler for assistance.
SQS
Your vehicle's top speed is e lectronically limit
ed to 155 mph (250 km/h).
If the engine control unit receives faulty vehi
cle road speed signals, the Malfunction Indi
cator Lamp
(MIL) ¢..fi will illuminate . If this
occurs, contact the nearest authorized Audi
dealer for assistance .

Always observe the posted speed limits
and adjust your speed to suit prevailing
road, traffic and weather conditions. Never
drive your vehicle faster than the maxi
mum speed rating of the tires installed.
Auto Check Control
Introduction
The Auto-Check control monitors the function
of certain vehicle features and components. It
simply makes sure these features and compo
nents are working properly. The Auto-Check
control works as long as the ignition is on, as
well as whenever the vehicle is driven .
If a component is ma lfunctioning or if the
need for an urgent repair has been detected,

this will appear in the instrument cluster dis
play. You will also hear an audible warning
tone . The displays are color coded in either
red or yellow depending on their level of prior
ity.
A red symbol means Danger , a yellow symbo l
indicates
Warning. In certain situat ions, in
formation message for the driver appear in
addition to the red and yellow symbols.
Note about automatic transmission
The Auto -Check Control wi ll automatically
perform a test each time you switch on the ig
nition. With the selector lever in P or N, the
following message appears in the d isplay:
When stationary apply brake pedal while se
lecting gear
When you select a diffe ren t gear (for exam
ple: R, D, etc.), the message w ill disappear
and the Auto-Check function is displayed.
If there is a malfunct ion, then the malfunc
tion message will appear about 15 seconds af
te r you start the vehicle . At the same time you
will hear a warning tone.
Driver information messages
Driver information messages are shown in the
instrument cluster display in addition to sym
bols.

For example, if the transmiss ion selector lever
is not in the P position when the engine is
turned
