3. GUIDELINES ON ENGINE SERVICE
G20DF engine is for FF (Front Engine Front Drive) type vehicle. Therefore, there are some deferent
maintenance and repair works compared to the engine for FR (Front Engine Rear Drive) type vehicle.
For safe and correct works, you must observe the working procedures and instructions in this manual.
And, use the designated tools as follow:
: Power train mounting stand / Engine hanger / Engine stand / Heavy duty engine jack.
Cautions before service works
G20DF engine is FF (Front Engine Front Drive) type engine, and the engine and transmission are
integrated in a same module. Remember that there are many differences compared to
conventional engine in FR (Front Engine Rear Drive) type SUV vehicle.
To remove the engine, use the dedicated equipments such as engine jack, transmission jack,
engine stand and engine crane (1 ton).
To prevent the engine from abruptly starting during service in engine compartment, never allow
anybody to stay in the vehicle.
Make sure to disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery to prevent any damage to electric
systems.
Make sure to clean the working area and to prepare the necessary tools before service works.
Always place the ignition switch to OFF position if not required. Otherwise, there could be
unexpected damage to electric devices or personal injuries due to short-circuit..
To prevent the foreign material from entering into the fuel injection system, completely seal the
inlets of HP pump, fuel hoses and high pressure pipes.
Do not remove the engine while supporting the oil pan with a jack. -

Lifting up the vehicle
Before lifting up the vehicle with a lift, correctly support the lifting points.
To prevent the vehicle from rolling down, put the chocks under the tires (when using a 4-post lift).
Make sure to support the correct lifting points (when using a 2-post lift). -

REKES key switch description
Door LOCK (locks the doors and tailgate when pressed briefly) 1.
All doors and the tailgate are locked and the theft deterrent mode is activated.
When the theft deterrent mode is activated, the hazard warning lamp flashes twice. When this
button is pressed once more within 4 seconds, the hazard warning lamp flashes twice and the
buzzer sounds once. -
-
Panic (Press and hold for 2 seconds or more) 3.
If this button is pressed for 2 seconds or more, the hazard warning lamp flashes while the buzzer
sounds for approx. 30 seconds.
If the door LOCK button or panic button is pressed, this function is deactivated. -
- Door UNLOCK (unlocks the doors and tailgate when pressed briefly) 2.
If this button is pressed briefly, all doors and the tailgate are unlocked and the theft deterrent
mode is deactivated.
When the theft deterrent mode is deactivated, the hazard warning lamp flashes once.
In theft deterrent mode, if a door, tailgate or engine hood is not opened within 30 seconds after
the door is unlocked by a remote controller, the doors are locked with the hazard warning lamp
and buzzer activated (lamp flashes twice and buzzer sounds once, the theft deterrent mode is
activated again). -

13. REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM (REKES)
REKES key (Transmitter)
When the user operates the switch of the REKES key, the vehicle control message formatted by the
remote controller CPU is sent to the main part via radio transmission. The CPU of the main part controls
the vehicle and the main part controls the vehicle operations.
Door LOCK
Door UNLOCK
Panic
The escort function is activated with the headlamp ON for 20 seconds when the door LOCK button
is pressed for 0.5 seconds or more in the theft deterrent mode. If the door LOCK button is pressed
briefly or the ignition is turned ON during the escort operation, the escort is deactivated.

Passive tailgate open actuation area: Within 1.2 m from the center of the bumper -
-
(1) Passive entry actuation area
Searching for a smart key signal from the outside the vehicle is prioritized in the theft deterrent mode
when the passive entry signal is input. Searching for a smart key signal from the inside is prioritized
when the theft deterrent mode is deactivated.
The system searches a smart key only in the actuation area of a switch, which the signal is input
(driver/passenger door handle switches and tailgate open switch). -
-
4. PASSIVE ENTRY MANAGEMENT
1) Passive Function
The passive entry actuation area refers to the area where passive LOCK/UNLOCK can be
performed by pressing the switch on the driver or passenger door handle with a smart key carried by
the driver.
The passive tailgate open actuation area refers to the area where the tailgate can be opened by
pressing the tailgate switch with a smart key carried by the driver. -

No engine operation
When the START/STOP button is pressed at the vehicle speed of 3 km/h or less, the SKM turns off
the IGN relay to stop the engine.
When the vehicle speed is 3 km/h or more or no speed signal is input, the SKM performs the
following functions: 1.
2.
Vehicle status Conditions
3 km/h or faster - When the START/STOP switch is pressed for 3 seconds
or more, the ignition status is changed from IGN to ACC.
- If the engine START/STOP switch is pressed again, the
ignition status is changed from ACC to IGN.
Abnormal vehicle speed
(No or abnormal CAN signal)- When the START/STOP switch is pressed for 3 seconds
or more, the ignition status is changed from IGN to ACC.
- If the engine START/STOP switch is pressed again, the
ignition status is changed from ACC to Power OFF.
(DTC set)
When the START/STOP button is pressed and held with IGN ON, the ignition status is changed to
OFF. When the START/STOP button is pressed briefly, the ignition status is changed to ACC ON. 3.
ACC ON to Power OFF
The SKM changes the ignition status to OFF from ACC ON when:
the engine START/STOP button is pressed with the brake pedal released after the ignition status is
changed from IGN ON to ACC ON.
the REKES LOCK or passive LOCK signal is input with ACC ON.
the driver door is opened with ACC ON.
(Driver door open signal input through B-CAN)

(4) Smart key battery discharge warning (3) Smart key verification fail warning
When the verification is requested for ignition status change or engine starting and no verified smart key
is in the vehicle, the SKM sends the "smart key verification status" signal, which indicates that the
verification has failed, for up to 10 sec. until the verification fail conditions are deactivated. for up to 10
seconds. until the verification fail conditions are deactivated.
Verification fail detection and transmission conditions
When the ignition status is changed after a smart key is verified by the START/STOP switch ON
input, the SKM sends the verification status for 10 sec. -Normally, the smart key verification warning is one of the smart key fail conditions. -
Ignition status change
(OFF -> ACC) / (OFF -> IGN)/(ACC -> IGN) / (IGN -> engine ON) *
If above conditions are met again, the SKM re-verifies a smart key and sends the verification status
for another 10 seconds.
When the ignition status is changed by the transponder verification while the smart key status is sent
through the B-CAN, the SKM sends the smart key verification signal and also sends the transponder
verification signal for 10 seconds. -
-
If low smart key battery is detected during the verification process for ignition status change or engine
start, the SKM sends the signal for "smart key battery low voltage warning" to the BCM and instrument
cluster through the B-CAN for up to 10 sec. until the warning condition is deactivated.
Smart key battery discharge confirmation and deactivation
If the smart key battery low voltage is confirmed, the SKM sends the smart key battery low voltage
warning signal.
If the smart key battery is in normal condition, the SKM sends the smart key battery low voltage
warning deactivation signal.
The smart key is the last used key. -
-
*
(5) Transponder verification fail warning
If a verified smart key is not found by the key verification process, the SKM sends the information that
indicates the key is not verified to the instrument cluster through the B-CAN for up to 10 seconds until
the warning condition is deactivated.
The SKM sends the transponder verification warning when the verification has failed with the smart
key inserted into the immobilizer holder. -
Transponder verification fail detection and transmission conditions
When the ignition status is changed after the transponder is verified by the START/STOP switch ON
input, the SKM sends the transponder verification status for 10 sec. -
