Digital clock with date display
Your vehicle is equipped with a quartz con­
trolled digital clock .

To set the hour

onds .
Engine coolant temperature gauge
The engine coo la nt gauge ¢ page 10 , fig. 3@
only works when the ign ition is on. To prevent
damage to your e ngine, please note the fo l­
l owing important points:
Engine cold
As long as the nee dle rem ains a t the left end
of the gauge, the engine s till h as not reac hed
its operating temperat ure. Avoid high engine
speeds, heavy engine loads and heavy throt­
tle.
Normal temperature
W hen the engine has re ache d its ope rat ing
temperature, the need le w ill move into the
mid dle of t he gauge and rema in there .
If the
engine is working hard at high outside tem ­
peratures, the needle may turn fu rther to the
right. This is no cause for concern as long as
the . warni ng lig ht in the inst rument cl uster
does not illuminate .
When the. war ning light starts to flash,
th is can mean one of two thi ngs: either the
coolant
temperature is too high, o r the coo l­
ant
level is too low ¢ page 16 .

- M ounting ad ditiona l lights or accessories
i n fr ont of the air inlets reduces the coo l­
ing effect of t he radiato r. At high o utsi de
tempe rat ures or h igh engine load, the
eng ine could overheat.
- The front spoiler has been designed to
properly d istribute the cooling a ir when
the vehicl e is movi ng. If the spoiler is
damaged, this c ould reduce the coo ling
e ff ect a nd th e eng ine could then ove r­

that the brake wa rning light is funct ioning
properly .
If the brak e warni ng lig ht does not li ght up
when the en gin e is c ranking or the p arking
bra ke i s applied, ther e m ay be a malfunct ion
in the elec trical system. In thi s cas e, cont act
y ou r Audi dealer.
If the ABS fails, the ABS warning/ind icator
light

When the light comes on, an audib le warning
signal is also given .
Parking brak e set
The parking brake wa rning light _ /_
(Canada models) illuminates when the park­
ing brake is set. In addition, a wa rning tone
will sound after you have driven for longer
than 3 seconds and faster than 3 mph (5 km/
h) .
Par king brak e set
The ~ warning/ind icator light i lluminates
when the parking brake is set¢,& .

-Always observe the warnings in
¢ page 174, Engine compartment, be­
fore opening the engine hood and check­
ing the brake fluid.
- Driv ing with low brake fluid is a safety
ha zard! Stop the car and get professional
assistance.
- USA models: If both, the~ warning
light and the
l;S warning light come
on at the same t ime, the rear wheels
could lock up first under hard braking.
Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes can
cause loss of vehicle cont rol and an acci­
dent . Have yo ur vehicle repaired immed i- ately by your a
uthorized Audi dealer or a
qualif ied workshop. Drive s low ly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application .
-Canada models: If both, the brake warn­
ing light . and the ABS warn ing light
liJ come on at the same time, the rear
wheels could lock up f irst under hard
brak ing . Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes
can cause loss of veh icle control and an
accident. Have your vehicle repai red im­
mediately by your author ized Audi dealer
or a qualified wo rkshop . Drive slowly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application.
- If the b rake wa rning/ind icator light does
not go out after a few seconds and the
parking brake is re leased, or lights up
while you are dr iving, the flu id leve l in
the brake flu id reservo ir is too low. If you
believe that it is safe to do so, proceed
immed iate ly at low speed to the nearest
author ized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop and have the brake system inspect­
ed.
- Always keep in mind that after several
brake applications, you will need greater
p ressu re on the b rake pedal to stop you r
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with max imum stopping powe r
in critical situations . You must allow for
increased braking distances . The extra
distance used up by fading brakes could lead to an accident .
t!i1 !.!r Safety systems
The I (USA models)/ . (Canada models) in­
dicator light mon itors the safety systems e .g .
(airbags , pretens ioners) and illuminates fo r a
few seconds each time you switch the ign it ion
on.
If the
I (USA models) /. (Canada models)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi­
nates while you are driving, or if it starts to
blink , then there is a malfunction somewhe re
in the system. If the ligh t does not i llum inate
when you switch on the ignition, this also
means there is a malfunc tion .

If you have a malfunction in the safety sys ­
tems, contact your authorized Audi dealer
immediate ly. Otherw ise the safety sys­
tems may not work properly in an acci­
dent.
~ Safety belt warning light
App lies to vehicles: with safety belt warning light
The warning light is a reminder to fasten
safety belts.
The warning light . comes on for a few sec ­
onds after the ignition is switched on as a re­
minder to fasten your safety be lt.

0 Generator
This warning/indicator light detects a mal­
function in the generator or in the vehicle's
electrical system .
The. warning/ind icator light illuminates
when yo u switch on the ignit ion and must go
out after the engine has started .
I f the . warning/indicator light illum inates
while you are driving, yo u should contact you r
author ized Audi dealer. Since the veh icle bat­
tery is discha rging, you should switch
off any
unnecessary electrical consumers (for exam ­
p le, the air conditioner).
~ Engine oil pressure
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol
requires immediate service or repair.
I f the . symbol appears in the display and
flashes, the oil pressure is too low . In addition
to the symbo l, the following message a lso ap­
pears in the d isp lay:
S wi tch off en gin e! Oil pr essure is t oo low
• Pull off the road and stop the vehicle .
• Shut the engine down.
• Check the eng ine oil level¢
page 185.
• Contact your authorized Audi dealer for as-
sistance if necessary .
Engine oil level too low
If the engine oil level is too low , top off oil to
t h e proper level
¢ page 185.
Engine oil leve l OK
If the . symbol starts flashing again even
though the eng ine oil level checks OK on the
dipstick,
do not start dri ving again and d o
not l et th e engine run at idl e.
Instead, con­
tact yo ur auth o rized Aud i dea ler fo r ass is­
tance .

- The engin e oil pr essure symbol. is
n ot an indi cato r for a l ow eng in e oil lev ­
e l. Do not rel y on i t. In ste ad, che ck th e
o il le vel in yo ur engine at regul ar inter­
vals, p referably ea ch time you refuel ,
a nd a lw ay s befo re going on a long t rip.
- The yellow oil le vel warning indication

must be repaired as soon as possible .

• Pull off the road and stop the veh icle.

off the engine.
• Check coolant level

Boo st p ressure indicator (boost )
A bar graph tha t begins on the left and fills in
toward the r ight i nd icates the engine's cu r­
rent load (mean ing the c urrent boost pres ­
sure) .
Engine oil temperature indicator
If the e ngine o il temperature is be low 140 ° F
(60
°(), the 'l::r. symbo l followed by th ree hy­
phens " - - -" and the °C un it is shown.
The engine has reached its ope rat ing temper­
ature when the eng ine o il tempe ra ture is be­
tween
176 °F (80 °() and 248 °F (120 °() u n­
der normal driving conditions . The engine oil
temperature may be higher if there is heavy
engine load and high temperatures outsid e.
T his is not a cause for concern as long as the
• qpage 16 or II q page 19 wa rning ligh t
in the display does not flash.
Lap timer
Introduction
Appl ies to vehicles: with lap timer
You can record and eva luate lap t imes with
the lap timer in the display~
page 29,
fig. 22 . The time is measured in minutes, sec­
onds and 1/10 seconds . The hours are a lso
shown when the lap time exceed s 60 minu tes.
T he max imum individual measurement is 99
hours .

Please devote your fu ll attent ion to driv­
ing. As the d river, you have comp lete re ­
s pon sibility fo r safety in traffic. Only use
the funct io ns in such a way that you always
maintain complete control over your vehi ­
cle in all traff ic situations.

36 Opening and closing
-The operation of the remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip­
ment) .
- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you should always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked .
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the unlock button
CD .
- Use the panic function only if you are in
an emergency situation.
Resetting the remote control
The remote control must be reset if the vehi­
cle does not unlock .
.,,. Press the unlock button CD on the remote
control.
.,,. Manually unlock the driver's door lock with
the mechanical key within 30 seconds.
.,,. Press either the lock-
lD or the unlock CD but­
ton to complete th e reset sequence.
Operating locks with the key
To lock and unlock the vehicle from the out­
side , turn the key in the lock of the driver's
door .

Locking and unlocking the vehicle from
inside
The vehicle can be locked or unlocked from
the inside using the power locking switch .

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch , please note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside (increased security, for ex ­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
inside by pulling on the door handle .
-If the driver's door is opened (after you have
locked the vehicle from the inside using the
power locking switch), the door will remain
unlocked to prevent you from locking your­
self out of your vehicle. After you close the
door, you have to lock the driver 's door
again.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat-
ed, the doors automatically unlock. ..,.

A WARNING
- Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unsupervised use of the keys can
result in starting of the engine and use
of vehicle systems such as power win­
dows, etc. which could resu lt in serious
injury.
- Remember -you can still open or close
the power w indows for about ten mi­
nutes after the ignition is sw itched off.
Only when e ithe r of the front doors a re
opened are the power windows switched
off.
- Be careful when closing the windows .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- Always remove the ignition key whenever you leave your vehicle .
- If you lock your vehicle from the ou tside,
no one, especia lly children, sho uld re­
main in the vehicle.
- Do not stick anything on the windows o r
the windshield that may interfere with
the driver's fie ld of vision.
(D Tips
- When the doors are opened, the win­
dows are automatically lowered 10 mm .
- The windows can still be opened and
closed for about ten minutes after the
ignition has been turned off. The power
w indows are not shut off unt il one of the
front doors is opened.
Convenience close/open feature
You can close or open the windows from out­
side when you lock or unlock your car with the
key.

Switching off the lights

The head lights only work when the ignition is
switched on. While start ing the engine or
when switching off the ignition, the head- lights
will go off and only the side ma rker
lights will be on.
Daytime running lights (DRL) (USA
models)
T he daytime running lights can be turned on
or off using this function. If the function is ac­
tive, the daytime ru nning lights are turned on
automatica lly when the ign it ion is switched
on.
T he daytime running lights are activated
only
when the light switch is at the AUTO* or DRL *
position.
Daytime running lights (Canada models
only)
The daytime running lights are activated only
when the light switch ¢ fig. 39 is either at the
0 or the :;oo: pos ition.
T he daytime r unning lights funct ion cannot be
turned off.
Automatic headlight control*
In the switch position AUTO the automatic
headlight control
is turned on. The low
beams are turned on automatically through a
light sensor as soon as amb ient b rightness
(e .g. when driving into a tunnel) falls below a
value preset at the factory. When ambient
brightness increases aga in, the low beams are
turned off again automatically ¢.&..
In the
AUTO position the low beams are
switched off automatically when the ignition
is turned off .
Light Sensor Malfunction*
In the event of a light sensor malfunction, the
driver is notified in the instrument cluster dis­
play:
El Automatic headlights/automatic wipers
defective
For safe ty reasons the low beams are turned
on permanently with the switch in
AUTO* .
However , you can conti nue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switch. Have the
