48 Opening and clo sing
• To set an inte rmediate position, press/pull
the switch until the sunroof reaches the de­
s ired posit ion .
Opening
• To move the s unroo f to the position for re­
duced wind noise, tu rn the switch to posi­
tion @ until resistance can be felt.
• To open the sunroof complete ly, t urn and
ho ld the switch against the resistance in po­
s it ion @.
• To close the sunroof, turn the switch to po­
s it ion

• Turn the sw itch to the desired posit ion to
select an intermediate posit ion.
Opening and clos ing the sun shade
• To automatically open the sunshade com­
pletely, briefly press the sw itch @ in the de­
s ired arrow d irect ion.
• To stop the sunshade in a n intermed iate po­
s it io n, press the switc h again, o r
• Press and ho ld the switch in the desired a r­
r ow direction.
• Re lease the switch when sunshade is at de -
s ired posit ion .
Afte r the ignit ion is switched off, you can st ill
ope rate the Panoram ic sliding sunroof fo r
about 10 min utes . As soon as the driver's or
passenger's door is opened, the switch is in­
operat ive.
The power sunshade can a lso be closed when
the Panoramic sliding sunroof is ope n.
A WARNING -
Pay careful attention when closing the
Panoramic sliding sunroof -otherwise seri­
ous injury could res ult! For this reason, al­
ways remove the ignition key when leaving
the vehicle .
Cy Note
Always close your Panoram ic sliding sun­
roof when leaving your ve hicle. Sudden
ra in can cause damage to the interio r
equ ipment of your vehicle, pa rticularly the
electronic eq uipment.

Emergency closing of the Panoramic
sliding sunroof
Applies to vehicles: with Panoramic sliding sunroof
If the Pano ramic sliding sunroof detects an
object in its path w hen it is closing, it w ill
open again automa tically. In th is case , you
can close the roo f with t he power emergency
closing function.
• Within five seconds after the sunroof opens
automatically , pull the switc h until the roof
closes .

Stowing luggage
Loading the luggage compartment
All luggage and other objects must be prop­
erly stowed and secured in the luggage com­
partment.

Loose items in the luggage compartment can
shift suddenly, changing vehicle handling
characteristics . Loose items can also increase
the r isk of serious personal injury in a sudden
veh icle maneuver or in a collision .

Heavy loads will influence the way your ve­
h icle handles. To help reduce the risk of a
loss of control leading to serious personal
injury:
-Always keep in mind when transporting
heavy objects, that a change in the cen­
ter of gravity can also cause changes in
veh icle handling:
- Always distribute the load as evenly as
possible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in
the luggage compartment as possible.
- Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rat­
ing or the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
specified on the safety compliance stick­
er on the left door jamb. Exceeding per­
missible weight standards can cause the
veh icle to slide and handle differently.

A WARNING
To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, a lways
keep the rear lid closed while driving.
- Never transport objects larger than
-
those fitting comp letely into the luggage
area because the rear lid cannot be fu lly
closed .
- If you absolutely must dr ive with the rear
lid open, observe the following notes to
reduce the risk of poisoning:
- Close all windows,
- Close the Panoramic sliding sunroof *,
- Open all air outlets in the inst rument
panel,
- Switch off the air rec irculat ion,
- Set the fresh a ir fan to the highest
speed.

- Never use sp onges designed to remove
insects, or a ny kitchen scouring sponges
or similar products . They can dama ge

- Never use a dry cloth or s ponge to clean
the headligh ts. On ly use wet clot hs or
sponges to prevent scratches.

to use soapy water.
- You should rem ove debris (suc h as in ­
sects) from the headlight lenses on a
regular basis, fo r example when refuel­
i ng your vehicle. Never clean the head­
li ghts w ith a dry cloth or sponge. Use a
wet cloth or sponge.

On ly wash the vehicle in facilit ies specially
designed for that pu rpose. This w ill reduce
t he risk of d irty water contami nated with
oil from en tering the sewer system. In
some areas, washing vehicles outside of
these facilities is prohibited .
Washing your vehicle with a power
washer
Cleaning the exterior of your car with a high­
pressure power washer is safe as long as you
observe a few simple rules.

• Always follow the operating instructions for
the power washer .
• Make sure that the jet o n the spray hose
produces a "fan shaped sp ray ".
• Do
not ho ld the spray nozzle too close t o
soft materia ls.
Keep a d istance from soft mate rials such as
rubber hoses or insulat ing mater ial as well as
sensors and camera lenses .
When clea ning the veh icle w it h a power wash­

always fo llow the operating instructions.
This applies particul arly to the operating pres­
sure and the spraying distance. Do not po int the spray di
rectly at the seals around the side
windows, around the doors, on the rear lid or
on the Panoram ic sliding sunroof* . Likewise,

insulat ion material or sensors

Hold the spray nozz le at least 1.3 ft (0.4 m)
away from the vehicle.
Do not use a high-pressure power washer to
remove snow and ice .
Do not use a jet which sprays water in a direct
stream or one that has a rotating jet .

Neve r wash tires with a jet t hat sprays wa­
ter in a direct stream . Th is could cause in­
v is ible damage to the t ires and weaken
them, even if the spray is from a relative ly
l ong distance and for a short time. Dam­
aged and weakened tires can fail and cause
accidents and personal in ju ry .

To avoid damaging you r vehicle, always
make sure that there is suffic ient d istance
between the spray head and soft materia ls
l ike rubber hoses, plast ic pa rts and sound­
deade ning mater ia ls as well as sensors
and camera lenses. Never a im the sp ray
head at the same point fo r a long time .
This also applies to cleaning headlights
and painted bumpers. Remembe r: the
closer the nozzle is to the surface of the
mater ia l, the greater the stress on the ma­
terial.
