IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tem­
peratu re inside the vehi cle. Air temperature,
a irflow and air d istribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting th e tempe ratur e
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F ( +28 °C) can be set . Outside of this
range,
L O or HI will appear in the cl imate con­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power . There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Ad just ing the airflow
You can adjust the airflow manually to su it
your needs . To have the airflow regulated au­
tomatically, press the IAUTO ! button.
~Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually se lect the vents where the
a ir will flow. To have the air d istr ibution regu­
l ated automatically, press the
IAU TOI button .
~ Adjusting seat heat ing *
Pressing the button switches the seat heating
on at the highest sett ing (level 3). The LEDs
indicate the temperature leve l. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again . To
switch the seat heating off , press the button
repeatedly unt il the L ED turns off.
After 10 minutes , the seat heat ing automati­
cally switches from level 3 to level 2.
I @ FRON T I Switch the d efro ster on /off
The windshield and s ide windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible. The max imum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windsh ield.
Recirculation mode switches off . T he tempera­
ture is controlled a utomat ica lly.

lmn R EAR ! Switching rear window heater
on /off
T he rea r window heater on ly operates when
the engine is running. It sw itches off auto ­
matically after a few m inutes, depending on
the outs ide temperature .
T o p reven t the re ar window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
l oo REARI b utton for more than 2 seconds .
This remains stored until the ign ition is
switched off .
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwheels . The levers ad­
just the direction of the airflow from the
vents.
In vehicles with a 3 -zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control system*, you can adjust the air
temperature in the rear by turning the thumb­
whee l toward the red side to make it warmer
or toward t he blue side to make it coo ler.
A WARNING ...
- Do not use the recircu lation for extended
pe riods of time . The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle .
If the windows fog up, press the air
reci rculation button aga in immediately
to switch off the air reci rc u lation func­
tion or se lect defrost .
- I ndividuals w ith red uced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature cou ld deve lop burns
when using t he seat heating function. To
red uce the risk of injury, these individu­
a ls shou ld not use seat heating.

To avoid damage to the heat ing e lements
i n the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.

The accuracy of the orientation lines and blue
surfaces diminis hes if:
- the rear view camera does not prov ide a re li­
able image, for examp le, in poor vis ibility
conditions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not visible due to
sun g lare and reflection .
Caring for th e rear view came ra lens
The rear view camera is located above the rear
license plate b racket . Fo r the pa rking assist to
ope rate, the lens
,=:,fig. 118 must be kept
clean:
- Dampen the lens with a househo ld alcohol­
based glass cleane r, and clean the lens with
a dry cloth

- Remove s now with a hand brush and ice
prefe rably with a de-icing spray

A WARNING
- T he pa rking aid cannot repla ce the dr iv­
er's attention. The driver a lone is respon­
sible for parking and similar driving ma­
neuvers .
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's
su rroundings, using the rear view mirror
as well.
- Do not a llow yourse lf to be d istracted
from traffic by the rear view camera pic­
tures.
- If the position and the installation ang le
of the camera has changed, fo r example,
after a rear end collision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons. Have it checked by a qua lified dealership.

warning can disappear from the system's
detection range as they are approached
and will not continue to be signaled . Ob­
jects such as barrier cha ins, trailer draw
bars, thin pa inted ve rtical po les o r fe n­

Switching on/off

The rear view camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic park assist
when you put the vehicle in reverse.
Switching on
"' Put the veh icle in reverse gear, the acoust ic
parking system with rear view camera is ac ­
tivated automat ica lly. Act ivat ion of the
acoust ic par king system is confirmed by a
brief ac knowledgement sou nd.
Switching off
"' Drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) , or
"' take the vehicle out of reverse gear . The
acoust ic park ing system is immediate ly de­
activated, and the rea r view came ra p icture
is deact ivated a utomat ically afte r a pe riod
o f abo ut 1 5 seconds , or
"' switch off the ignition.
T he de lay in deact ivat ing the came ra prov ides
an unin terrup ted view beh ind the ve hicle es­
pe cially when mane uver ing in tig ht park ing
spaces and prevents the picture from t urning
off the every time you shift out of reverse .
If the wa rning mess age ap pears in the dis play
but not the rea r view came ra p icture, read and
confirm the warni ng message. The acoustic
distance signal is always active .
If you press a fu nction button on the M MI
control console, the rea r view came ra p icture
disappears . The rear view camera picture reap­
pears the next time yo u pa rk.

Parallel Parking
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear

Use parking mode 2 to help you pork on the
edge of o street.

The following steps app ly only when there is
no obstacle (such as a wall) near the parking
spot. Otherwise, please read the "Tips on
Parking Next to Obstacles".
• Activate the turn signal.
• Switch the MMI on and se lect the reverse
gear. The parking aid turns on and park ing
mode 1 appears on the display.
• Position your vehicle parallel to the edge of
the street, approximately 3 ft (1 m) from a parked vehicle .
• Press the

ton on the MMI control console. Parking
mode 2 appears.
• Back up in reverse gear and align your vehi­
cle so that the b lue area
@ borders on the
rear end of the vehicle or on the parking
spot line . The blue area represents an exten­
s ion of the vehicle's outline by approximate­
ly 16 ft (5 m) to the rear . The long s ide of

the blue a rea shou ld be on the curb. The en­
tire blue area must fit into the parking spot.
• Wh ile the vehicle is stat ionary, turn the
steer ing whee l to the right as far as it wi ll
go.
• Back into the parking spot . Stop the vehicle
as soon as the blue curve touches the curb

• Wh ile the vehicle is stationary, turn the
s t eering whee l to the left as far as it will go.
• Continue to back up into the parking spot
until the vehicle is parked parallel to the
curb .@ marks the rear bumper. You should
stop driving in reverse as soon as and no lat­

Parking next to obstacles
When there is an obstacle (such as a wall)
next to the parking spot, choose a spot with
more space on the sides. Posit ion the long
s ide of the blue area so that there is suff ic ient
space from the curb. The area must not be on
the curb . You will also need to start tu rning
the steer ing wheel much earlier. There should
be a sufficient amount of space between the
c urb and the blue curve, and the blue curve
¢ fig. 122 must not touch the curb.
