36 Opening and clo sing
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switch illu­
minate when all the doors are closed and
locked .
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
inside by pulling on the door hand le .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat ­
ed, the doors automatically un lock .
.&_ WARNING
- The power locking switch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outs ide the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive .
- locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone beh ind in the veh icle, especially
children.

Setting power locking
In the radio/MM!*, you can set which doors
the central locking system will unlock.

you pull will unlock. If you press the

ton tw ice, the entire vehicle will un lock .
If

~ WARNING
-After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving.
- To help prevent po isonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the veh icle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while driv ­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit comp letely into the lug­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­
no t be fu Uy closed .
- Never leave you r vehicle unattended es­
pecially with the rea r lid left ope n. A
child could crawl into the car through the
l u ggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unab le to
get out. To reduce the risk of persona l in­
jury, never let children play in or around your vehicle . A lways keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not in use.
- Always ensure that no one is w ith in
range of the rear lid whe n it is mov ing, in
part icu lar close to the h inges - fingers or
hands can be pinched .
@ Tips
When the vehicle is locked , the rear lid can
be opened separately by pressing the but ­
ton
cs on the maste r key . When you close
the r ear lid agai n, it locks automatically .
Emergency unlocking of the luggage
compartment lid
There is an emergency release for the rear lid .

In case of on emergency , the luggage com­
portment lid can be opened from the inside using the trunk escape handle.

correct the cause of the mal function as
soon as possible.
- If park ing the veh icle w ith the power top
open, remember that the ve hicle interior
will not be protected from the weather
or from unauthorized entry. Closing the
power top before leaving the vehicle is
r ecommended. If you leave items in the
vehicle, lock them in the trunk .
"' Power top operation
The indicator light monitors the power top.
The l'JI indicator light illuminates for approxi­
mate ly 2 seconds when the ignit ion sw itches
on to check the function and then goes out
again . T he indicator light also:
- illuminates when the power top opens or
closes.
- blinks if the power top switch is operated
but the conditions for opening or closing the
power top are not met. A warning message
also appears in the instrument cluster dis­
play

-if the power top d id not open or close com­
pletely.

An error message appears if the power top
cannot open or close .
Several conditions must be met for the power
top to open or close automat ically .
An error message in the instrument cluster
d isp lay ind icates if one of the condit ions is not
met or there is a malfunct ion.
Power top: please close rear lid
The luggage compartment lid must be closed
when the power top is opening or closing . This
error message appears in the instrument cl us-

ter display if the luggage compa rtment lid is
not closed .
Storage bay not lowered. Please remove
obstruction
The power top sto rage bay must lower when
the power top is opening . This error message
appears in the instrument cluster display if
the storage bay is not lowered. If the storage
bay does not lower automat ically because of
objects in the luggage compartment, remove
the objects that are in the way from the stor­
age bay area . Otherwise, you can operate the
power top storage bay manually
c::> page 45.
Power top : cannot be used
This error message appears if the convertible
cannot open or close automatically because of
safety reasons or if there is a malfunct ion . The
follow ing causes are possible:
- Vehicle speed too high: Power top opera­
tion is deactivated and an error message ap­
pears if the veh icle speed is too high. Re­
duce the vehicle speed and ope rate the
sw itch again to open or close the powe r top.
- Battery voltage too low: The power top can­
not be ope rated if the battery voltage is too
low. This ens ures the re will be enough bat­
t ery vol tage le ft to sta rt the vehicle. The
power top can be operated again after the
eng ine is started .
-Rollover protection active: If the power top
is operated continuously for an extended pe ­
riod of time, rollover protection will activate
to prevent damage to the hydra ulic unit.
This protective funct ion prevents the power
top from opening or close for approx imately
15 to 30 minutes. It w ill function again af ­
ter that

-Malfunction: Failure of system components
is one possib le cause for malfunction . If this
happens, you can a lso ope rate the powe r
top by hand
c::> page 47.
Power top not secure
This message appears with a warning tone if
the power top is not
completely closed or
open and the vehicle speed is above 50 km/h.

200 Cleaning and protec tio n
The best way to remove snow from windows
and mirrors is to use a brush. Use a non-abra­
sive
plas tic ice scraper -better still, a spray
de icer -to remove
ic e from windows and mir­
rors.
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax s ince these can interfere with
the function of the windshield wiper blades (chatter).
Oi l, grease, or silicone residue can be removed
with
gl ass clea ner or silic on e remo ver. How­
ever, wax residue requires the use of a special­ ly formulated solvent. Please contact your au­
thor ized Audi dealer for adv ice on safe prod­
ucts for wax removal.
W indows shou ld also be cleaned on the inside
at regular intervals.
Never dry windows with the same chamois
that you use to dry painted surfaces. Wax resi­
due on the chamois can impair vision through
the w indows.

- Always read and heed all WARNINGS and
other information ~
page 194.
-The windshie ld must not be treated with
water-repellent materials . They can in­
crease glare under poor visib ility condi­
tions such as wetness, darkness, or when
the sun is low on the hori zon. In addi­
t ion, they can cause the win dshield wip­
ers to chatter.
(D Note
- Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow and ice from windows and mirrors.
This cou ld cause the g lass to cra ck.
- To preven t damage to the wi res of the
rear defogger, do not place any adhe sive
stickers on the inside of the rear window
ove r the wires .
- To he lp prevent d irt from sc ratch ing the
window, always scrape in a forward di ­
rection -pushing the scraper away from
you -never back and fo rth. -
Water leaking from the ins ide of the rear
windows may damage sensitive electrical components located either under the
rear parcel shelf or in the rear trunk area.
Always ensure that water never leaks
through the body section of the vehicle.
You can do th is by us ing waterproof pro­
tection over the vehicle's electrical com­
ponents (e.g. when install ing window
tinting) .
- Damage or malfunction of elect rical
c ompone nts due to water damage or any
other o uts ide infl uence is not covered by
the A udi New Veh icle Limited Warranty.

Cast (light) alloy wheels
Cast (light) alloy wheels require special care.
.,. Wash the w heels with a sponge or hose
brush every other week .
.,. For deep clean ing afterwards, use only a
dedicated
a ci d-free cast alloy wheel cleaner.
.,. Rub a coat of
liqu id w ax onto the rims every
three month. Be sure to reach and treat all
parts of the rim.
To preserve the decorative appearance of the cast alloy wheels, some special care is neces­
sary. In addition to road dirt and salt, brake dust is also corrosive . If left on for too long,
brake dust can cause pitting .
U se only spec ial
acid-free cleaners formulated
for alloy r ims. Safe products are availab le at
your authorized Aud i dealer . Never leave the
cleaner on the rims longer than spec ified on
the label. If not rinsed off promptly, the acid
contained in some cleane rs can attac k the
threads on the wheel bolts .
Never use abrasive o r metal po lish ing clean­
ing agents.
If the protective coating has been
c h ipped, e .g. by kicked up road dirt, touc h it
u p as soon as possible . .,..

When activating the central lock ing, the fuel
fi ller flap is automatically un locked or loc ked.
Refuel the vehicle with the ig nition turned
off.
Taking the fuel cap off
~ Turn off the ignition .
~ Press the left side of the fuel fil ler flap to
open it~

~ Unscrew fuel cap counter-clockwise and
hang i t on the fuel filler flap

Refuelling procedure
~ Insert the fuel no zzle from the gasoline
pump into the fuel filler nec k as far as it will
go .
~ Select a medium refuelling rate so that the
nozzle switches off automatical ly when the
tank is full.
Putting the fuel cap back on
~ After filling your tank, tw ist the fuel cap
clockwise as far as it will go .
~ Close the fuel filler flap. T
o avoid fuel spill ing or evaporating from the
fuel tank always close fuel cap properly and
completely .
A WARNING
-Improper refueling or handling of fuel can
cause fire, explosion and severe burns.
- Fuel is highly flammable and can cause
severe burns and other injuries.
- Failure to shut the engine off while refu­
eling and/or to insert the pump no zzle
fully into the fuel filler neck could cause
fuel to spray out of filler neck or to over ­
flow . Fuel spray and overflowing fuel can
cause a fire .
- Never use a cellular telephone while re­
fueling . The electromagnet ic rad iat ion
can cause sparks that can ignite fuel va­
pors and cause a fire.
- Never get back into your vehicle whi le re­
fue ling.
If in exceptional circumstances
you must get back in your vehicle while
ref ueling, make ce rtain that you close
the door and touch metal to discharge
static electricity before touching the fill ­
er nozzle again . Static electricity can
cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors released during refueling .
- Never smoke or have an open flame any­
where in or near your veh icle when refu­
eling or filling a portable fuel conta iner .
- For your safety, we strongly recommend
that you do not travel with a portable
fuel conta iner in your vehicle . The con­
tainer, full or empty may leak and could
cause a fire, especially in a crash .
- If, u nder exceptional cir cumstances, you
must transport a portable fuel conta iner,
p lease observe the following:
- Never fill a portable f uel container
whi le it is anywhere in or on the vehicle
(for example, in the luggage compart­
ment, or on the trunk). Static electrici­
ty can build up while filling and can ig­
nite fuel vapors causing a fire.
- Always place a portable fue l conta iner
on the ground before filling.
