to 0022 on the integrated garage door
opener.
After a short time, indicator lamp 0002starts
flashing yellow.

or 0022 is programmed. If the selected button
has already been programmed, indicator
lamp 0002will only start flashing yellow at a
rate of once a second after ten seconds
have elapsed.

Point remote control 0020at a distance of
2 to 8 inches (5 to 20 cm) at buttons 0003
to 0022 on the rear-view mirror.
i The required distance between remote
control 0020and the integrated garage door
opener depends on the garage door drive
system. Several attempts might be
necessary. You should test every position
for at least 25 seconds before trying
another position.
X Press and hold button 0021on remot econtrol
0020 until indicator lamp 0002lights up green.
If indicator lamp 0002lights up green or
flashes, then programming has been
successful.
X Release button 0021on remote control 0020for
the garage door drive system.
If indicator lamp 0002lights up red:
X Repeat the programming procedure for the
corresponding button on the rear-view
mirror. When doing so, vary the distance
between remote control 0020and the rear-
view mirror.
i If the indicator lamp flashes green after
successful programming, the garage door
system is operating on arolling code. After
programming, you must synchronize the
garage door opener integrated in the rear-
view mirror with the receiver of the garage
door system.
Synchronizing the rolling code
Your vehicle must be within reach of the
garage door or exterior gate drive. Make sure
that neither your vehicle nor any persons/
objects are present within the sweep of the
door or gate.
Observe the safety notes when performing
the rolling code synchronization
(Y page 254).
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the programming button of the door
or gate drive (see the door or gate drive operating instructions, e.g. under
"Programming of additional remote
controls").
i Usually, you now have 30seconds to
initiate the next step.
X Press previously programmed button 0003,
0023 or0022 of the integrated garage door
opener until the door starts to move.
The rolling code synchronization is then
complete.
Notes on programming the remote
control
Canadia nradio frequency laws require a
"break" (or interruption) of the transmission
signals after broadcasting for a few seconds.
Therefore, these signals may no tlast long
enough for the integrated garage door
opener. The signal is no trecognized during
programming. Comparable with Canadian
law, some U.S.g arage door openers are
designed to "time-out" in the same manner.
Proceed as follows:
R if you live in Canada
R if you have difficulties programming the
garage door opener (regardless of where
you live) when using the programming
steps
X Press and hold one of buttons 0003to0022 on
the integrated garage door opener.
Afte rashort time, indicator lamp 0002starts
flashing yellow.
X Release the button.
X Press button 0021of garage door remote
control 0020for two seconds, then release it
for two seconds.
X Press button 0021againf or two seconds.
X Repeat this sequence on button 0021of
remote control 0020until indicator lamp 0002
lights up green.
If indicator lamp 0002turns red, repeat the
process.
X Continue with the other programming
steps (see above). 256

Problems when programming
If you are experiencing problems
programming the integrated garage door
opener on the rear-view mirror, take note of
the following instructions:
R Check the transmitter frequency of garage
door drive remote control 0020.This can
usually be found on the back of the remote
control.
The integrated garage door opener is
compatible with devices that have units
which operate in the frequency range of
280 to 390MHz.
R Replace the batteries in garage door
remote control 0020.This increases the
likelihood that garage door remote control
0020 will transmit a stronga nd precise signal
to the integrated garage door opene rinthe
rear-view mirror.
R When programming, hold remote control
0020 at varying distances and angles from the
button that you are programming. Try
various angles at a distance between
2a nd 12 inches (5 to 30 cm) or at the same
angle bu tatvarying distances.
R If another remote control for the same
garage door drive is available, repeat the
same programming steps with this remote
control. Before performing these steps,
make sure that new batteries have been
installed in garage door driv eremote
control 0020.
R Note that some remote controls only
transmit for a limited amount of time (the
indicator lamp on the remote control goes
out). Press button 0021on remote control
0020 again before transmission ends.
R Align the antenna cable of the garage door
opener unit. This can improve signal
reception/transmission.
Opening/closing the garage door After it has been programmed, the integrated
garage door opener performs the function of
the garage door system remote control. Please also read the operating instructions
for the garage door system.
X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press button 0003,0023or0022 that you have
programmed to operate the garage door.
Garage door system with a fixed code:
indicator lamp 0002lights up green.
Garage door system with a rolling code:
indicator lamp 0002flashes green.
i The transmitter will transmit a signal for
as long as the button is pressed. The
transmission is halted after a maximum of
ten seconds and indicator lamp 0002flashes
yellow. Press button 0003,0023or0022 again if
necessary.
Clearing the memory of the integrated
garage door opener on the rear-view
mirror X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press buttons 0003and 0022.
The indicator lamp lights up yellow.
X Press and hold buttons 0003and 0022until the
indicator lamp turns green.
i Make sure that you clear the memory of
the integrated garage door opener before
selling the vehicle. Floormat on the driver's side

WARNING
Whenever you are using a floormat, make sure
there is enough clearance and that the
floormat is securely fastened.
The floormat should always be securely
fastened using the fastening equipment.
Before driving off, check that the floormat is
securely in place and adjust it if necessary. A
loose floormat could slip and hinder proper
functioning of the pedals. Features

Do not place several floormats on top of each

Hood
Opening the hood G
WARNING
Do not pull the release lever while the vehicle
is in motion. Otherwise, the hood could be
forced open by passing air flow.
This could cause the hood to come loose and
injure you and/o rothers. G
WARNING
There is a ris kofinjury if the hood is open,
even if the engine is not running.
Some engine components can become very
hot.
To avoid the ris kofburns, only touch those
components described in th eOperator's
Manual and observe the relevant safety notes. G
WARNING
To avoid injury, stay clear of moving parts
when the hood is open and the engine is
running.
The radiator fan may continue to run for
approximately 30seconds or may even restart
after the engine has been switched off. For
this reason, you must not reach into the fan
rotation area. G
WARNING
The engine is equipped with a transistorized
ignition system. Because of the high voltage,
it is dangerous to touch any components
(ignition coils, spark plug sockets, diagnostic
socket) of the ignition system:
R with the engine running
R while starting the engine
R when the ignition is switched on and the
engine is turned manually
X Make sure that the windshield wipers are
switched off. G
WARNING
The windshield wipers and wiper linkage
could be set in motion.
When the hood is open, you or others could
be injured by the wiper linkage.
Make sure that the windshield wipers are
switched off. Remove the SmartKey or make
sure that no ignition position has been
selected with KEYLESS-GO. All indicator
lamps must be off in the instrument panel. X
Pull release lever 0002for the hood.
The hood is released.
! Make sure that the windshield wipers are
not folded away from the windshield. You
could otherwise damage the windshield
wipers or the hood. 260

Reach into the gap, pull hoo dcatch
handle 0003up and lift the hood.
Once you have lifted the hood about
15 inches (40cm), it is automatically
opened the res tofthe way and held open
by the gas-filled struts.
Closing the hood G
WARNING
When closing the hood, use extreme caution
not to catch hands or fingers. Be careful that
you do not close the hood on anyone.
Make sure the hood is securely engaged
before driving off. Do not continue driving if
the hood can no longer engage after an
accident, for example. The hood could
otherwise come loose while the vehicle is in
motion and injure you and/or others.
X Lower the hood and let it fall from a height
of approximately 8inche s(20cm).
X Check that the hood has engaged properly.
If the hood can be raised slightly, it is not
properly engaged. Open it again and close
it with a little more force. Engine oil
Notes on the oil level Depending on the driving style, the vehicle
consumes up to 0.9 US qts
(0.8 l) of oil over
a distance of 600 miles (1,000 km). The oil
consumption may be highe rthan this when the vehicle is new or if you frequently drive at
high engine speeds.
AMG vehicles: before operation on race
tracks, check the oil level and (Y page 261)
add oil if necessary (Y page 262). Race track
operation is only permitted with a maximum
engine oil level.
Depending on the engine, the oil dipstick may
be in a different location.
When checking the oil level:
R park the vehicle on a level surface.
R the engine should be switched off for
approximately five minutes if the engine is
at normal operating temperature.
R if the engine is not at normal operating
temperature, e.g. if the engine was only
started briefly: wait about 30 minutes
before carrying out the measurement.
Checking the oil level using the oil
dipstick X
Pull oil dipstick 0002out of the dipstick guide
tube.
X Wipe off oil dipstick 0002.
X Slowly slide oil dipstick 0002into the guide
tube to the stop, and take it out again.
If the level is between MIN mark 0023and
MAX mark 0003, the oil level is correct.
X If the oil level is at or below MIN mark 0023,
add 0.55 US qt to 1.1 US qt (0.5 to 1.0 l) of

Adding engine oil
G
WARNING
If engine oil comes into contact with hot
engine parts, it may ignite and you could burn
yourself .Do not spill any engine oil on hot
engine parts. H
Environmental note
When adding oil, take care not to spill any. If
oil enters the soil or waterways, it is harmful
to the environment.
! Only use engine oils and oil filters that
have been approved for vehicles with a
service system. You can obtain a list of the
engine oils and oil filters tested and
approved in accordance with the
Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Service
Products at any Mercedes-Benz Service
center.
Damage to the engine or exhaust system is
caused by the following:
R using engine oils and oil filters that have
not been specifically approved for the
service system
R replacing engine oil and oil filters after
the interval for replacement specified by
the service system has been exceeded
R using engine oil additives.
! Do not add too much oil. adding too much
engine oil can result in damage to the
engine or to the catalytic converter. Have
excess engine oil siphoned off. Example: engine oil cap
X
Turn cap 0002counterclockwise and remove
it.
X Add engine oil.
If the oil level is at or below the MIN mark
on the oil dipstick, add 0.55 US qt to
1.1 US qt (0.5 to 1.0 l)of engine oil.
X Replace cap 0002on the filler neck and turn
clockwise.
Ensure that the cap locks into place
securely.
X Check the oil level again with the oil
dipstick (Y page 261).

Checking the coolant level G
WARNING
In order to avoid any potentially serious burns:
R use extreme caution when opening the
hood if there are any signs of steam or
coolant leaking from the cooling system, or
if the coolant temperature display indicates
that the coolant is overheated.
R do not remove the pressure cap on the
coolant reservoir if the coolant temperature
is above 158 ‡(70 †). Allow the engine to
cool dow nbefore removing the cap. The
coolant reservoir contains hot fluid and is
under pressure. 262
