the responsibility to pay attention. The cam-
era cannot show objects:
R very near to the rear bumper
R below the rear bumper
R in the area immediately above the boot lid
handle/tailgate handle recess
You are always responsible for safety and
must continue to pay attention to your imme-
diate surroundings when parking and
manoeuvring. This applies to the areas
behind, in front of and nex tto the vehicle. You
could otherwise endanger yourself and oth-
ers. G
WARNING
Under the following circumstances, the
reversing camera will not function, or will
function in a limited manner:
R if the boot lid/tailgate is open
R in heavy rain, snow or fog
R at night or in very dark places
R if the camera is exposed to very bright light

you feel rested before you begi
ndriving and
during yourj ourney. Always take breaks in
good time and regularly, especially during
long journeys. Otherwise, you may fail to rec-
ognise dangers in time, cause an accident and
injure yourself and others.
General notes ATTENTION ASSIST helps you during long,
monotonous journeys such as on motorways
and trunk roads. It is active in the 80 km/h
to 180 km/h range.
If ATTENTION ASSIST detects typical indica-
tors of fatigue or increasing lapses in con-
centration on the part of the driver, it sug-
gests taking a break.
ATTENTION ASSIST assesses your level of
fatigue or lapses in concentration by taking
the following criteria into account:
R your personal driving style, e.g. steering
characteristics
R journey-related parameters, e.g. time of
day, length of journey
The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST is
restricted, and warnings may be delayed or
not occur at all:
R if the road condition is poor, e.g. if the sur-
face is uneven or if there are potholes
R if there is a strong side wind
R if you have adopted a sporty driving style
with high cornering speeds or high rates of
acceleration
R if you are predominantly driving slower
than 80 km/h or faster than 180 km/h
R if you are currently using COMAND APS or
making a telephone call with COMAND APS
R if the time has been set incorrectly
R in active driving situations, such as when
you change lanes or change your speed Warning and display messages in the
multifunction display If ATTENTION ASSIST is active, you will be
warned no sooner than 20 minutes after your
journey has begun. You then hear an inter-
mittent warning tone twice and the
Atten‐ tion Assist: Drowsiness detected mes-
sage appears in the multifunction display.
X Activate ATTENTION ASSIST using the on-
board computer (Y page 238).
Symbol :appears in the multifunction
display.
X If necessary, take a break.
X Press the abutton to confirm the mes-
sage.
On long journeys, take regular breaks in good
time to allow yourself to rest properly. If you
do not take a break, you will be warned again
after 15 minutes at the earliest. This will only
happen if ATTENTION ASSIST still detects
typical indicators of fatigue or increasing lap-
ses in concentration.
ATTENTION ASSIST is reset and starts
assessing your tiredness again when you con-
tinue your journey if:
R you switch off the engine.
R you take off your seat belt and open the
driver's door, e.g. for a change of drivers or
to take a break. Driving systems

R a traffic sign indicating the end of the
speed limit is detected.
R you make a turn.
R you leave or enter a town.
R the road type changes (e.g. motorway,
country road).
R you have travelled a certain minimum
distance without the traffic sign being
repeated or detected again.
i You can also activate Speed Limit Assist
using COMAND APS. The maximum per-
missible speed is then shown in the
COMAND display; see the COMAND APS

Important safety notes G
WARNING
Night View Assist Plus is only an aid designed
to assist driving and does not relieve you of
the responsibility to pay attention. Continue
to look through the windscreen instead of
relying on the Night View Assist Plus display.
You are responsible for safety and must drive
in accordance with traffic conditions. You
could otherwise endanger yourself and oth-
ers. The system may be impaired or may not func-
tion if:
R
there is poor visibility, e.g. due to snow,
rain, fog or spray.
R the windscreen is dirty, misted up or cov-
ered, for instance by a sticker, in the vicinity
of the camera.
R on bends, on uphill gradients or downhill
gradients. G
WARNING
Night View Assist Plus does not detect
objects in the immediate vicinity of the vehi-
cle. Look through the windscreen when
manoeuvring. Make sure that there are no
people or animals in the area in which you are
manoeuvring. In addition to the illumination provided by the
normal headlamps, Night View Assist Plus
uses infrared light to illuminate the road.
Night View Assist Plus camera
:picks up
the infrared light and displays a monochrome
image in COMAND. The image displayed in
COMAND corresponds to a road lit up by
main-beam headlamps. This enables you to
see the road's course and any obstacles in
good time. When pedestrian recognition is
active, pedestrians recognised by the system
are highlighted in the Night View Assist Plus
display.
Light from the headlamps of oncoming vehi-
cles does not affect the Night View Assist Plus
display in the multifunction display. This is
also the case if you cannot switch on the Driving systems

General notes The Lane Tracking package consists of Blind
Spot Assist (Y
page 208) and Lane Keeping
Assist (Y page 210).
Blind Spot Assist Important safety notes
G
WARNING
Blind Spot Assist is only an aid designed to
assist driving. It may fail to detect some vehi-
cles and is no substitute for attentive driving.
Blind Spot Assist cannot detect road and traf-
fic conditions. It may fail to detect narrow
vehicles, such as motorcycles or bicycles, or
only detect them too late.
Monitoring may be affected by dirty sensors,
strong spray or poor visibility caused by snow,
rain or mist, for example. In this case, vehicles
are detected late or not at all. Always pay attention to traffic conditions and
your surroundings. Otherwise, you may fail to
recognise dangers in time, cause an accident
and injure yourself and others.
General notes
Blind Spot Assist uses a radar sensor system
to monitor the areas on both sides of your
vehicle. It supports you from speeds of
30 km/h. A warning display in the exterior
mirrors draws your attention to vehicles
detected in the monitored area. If you then
switch on the corresponding turn signal to
change lane, you will also receive an optical
and audible collision warning. For monitoring,
Active Blind Spot Assist uses sensors in the
rear bumper.
For Blind Spot Assist to assist you when driv-
ing, the radar sensor system must be activa-
ted (Y page 243) and operational.
The radar sensor system is automatically
deactivated near radio telescope facilities
(Y page 398). 208

Monitoring range of the sensors
G
WARNING
Blind Spot Assist monitors certain areas in the
immediate vicinity of yourv ehicle. Vehicles
that approach and drive past at high speeds
are not detected. There is no display and no
warning.
If the lanes are very wide, it may not be pos-
sible to monitor the complete width of the
neighbouring lane. For this reason, vehicles in
the nextl ane may no tbe detected, especially
if they are driving in a staggered formation in
differen tlanes .This may be the case if vehi-
cles are driving at the edge of their lane that
is furthest away from your vehicle.
Always pay attention to traffic conditions and
your surroundings. Otherwise, you may fail to
recognise dangers in time, cause an accident
and injure yourself and others. CLS Coupé
Blind Spot Assist monitors the area up to
3.0 mbehind your vehicle and directly nextto
your vehicle, as shown in the diagram.
If the lanes are narrow, vehicles driving in the
lane beyond the lane next to your vehicle may
be indicated, especially if the vehicles are not
driving in the middle of their lane. This may
be the case if there are vehicles at the edge
of their lane nearest your vehicle. Due to the nature of the system:
R
warnings may be issued in error when driv-
ing close to crash barrier sorsimilar solid
lane borders.
R warnings may be interrupted when driving
alongside long vehicles, for example lor-
ries, for a prolonged time.
The two radar sensors for Blind Spot Assist
are integrated into the sides of the rear
bumper .Make sure that the bumpe ris free of
dirt, ice or slush in the vicinity of the sensors.
The sensors must not be covered, for exam-
ple by cycle racks or overhanging loads. Fol-
lowing a severe impact or in the event of dam-
age to the bumpers, have the function of the
sensors checked at a qualified specialist
workshop. Blind Spot Assist may otherwise
not work properly.
Indicator and warning display G
WARNING
Blind Spot Assist is not active at speeds below
30 km/h. The indicator lamps in the exterior
mirrors are yellow. Vehicles in the monitoring
range are then not indicated.
Always pay attention to traffic conditions and
your surroundings. Otherwise, you may fail to
recognise dangers in time, cause an accident
and injure yourselfa nd others. :
