The sensitivity of the system is adjust-
able from the multifunction lever.
Wiper sensitivity position 3 has been
calibrated for best overall wiping sen-
sitivity. If the operator desires more
wiping sensitivity, they may select
sensitivity positions 4 or 5. If the op-
erator desires less wiping sensitivity,
they may select sensitivity positions 2
or 1. Place the multifunction lever in
the OFF position when not using the
system.
NOTE:
The Rain Sensing feature willnot operate when the wiper
speed is in the low or high posi-
tion.
The Rain Sensing feature may not function properly when ice
or dried saltwater is present on
the windshield.
Use of RainX® or products containing wax or silicone may
reduce rain sensor performance.
The Rain Sensing feature can be turned on and off through the
EVIC (for versions/markets,
where provided). Refer to “Elec- tronic Vehicle Information Cen-
ter (EVIC)/Personal Settings
(Customer-Programmable Fea-
tures)” in “Understanding Your
Instrument Panel” for further
information.
The Rain Sensing system has protec-
tive features for the wiper blades and
arms. It will not operate under the
following conditions:
Low Temperature Wipe Inhibit
— The Rain Sensing feature will
not operate when the ignition is
first switched ON, and the vehicle is
stationary, and the outside tem-
perature is below 0°C, unless the
wiper control on the multifunction
lever is moved, or the vehicle speed
becomes greater than 0 km/h, or
the outside temperature rises above
freezing.
Neutral Wipe Inhibit — The Rain
Sensing feature will not operate
when the ignition is ON, and the
transmission shift lever is in the
NEUTRAL position, and the ve-
hicle speed is less than 8 km/h,
unless the wiper control on the mul- tifunction lever is moved or the
shift lever is moved out of the NEU-
TRAL position.
HEADLIGHT WASHER
(for versions/markets,
where provided)
The multifunction lever operates the
headlight washers when the ignition
switch is in the ON position and the
headlights are turned on. The multi-
function lever is located on the left
side of the steering column.
To use the headlight washers, push
the multifunction lever inward (to-
ward the steering column) to the sec-
ond detent and release it. The head-
light washers will spray a timed high-
pressure spray of washer fluid onto
each headlight lens. In addition, the
windshield washers will spray the
windshield and the windshield wipers
will cycle.
NOTE:
After turning the ignition switch and
headlights ON, the headlight wash-
ers will operate on the first spray of
the windshield washer and then ev-
ery eleventh spray after that.

and "Lights On" (if driver leaves the
vehicle).
Unstored Messages Until RUN
These messages deal primarily with
the Remote Start feature. This mes-
sage type is displayed until the igni-
tion is in the RUN state. Examples of
this message type are "Remote Start
Aborted - Door Ajar" and "Press
Brake Pedal and Push Button to

Five Second Unstored Messages
When the appropriate conditions oc-
cur, this type of message takes control
of the main display area for five sec-
onds and then returns to the previous
screen. Examples of this message type
are "Memory System Unavailable -

Beams On".
The Reconfigurable Telltales section
is divided into the white telltales area on the right, amber telltales in the
middle, and red telltales on the left.
When the appropriate conditions ex-
ist, the EVIC displays the following

EVIC AMBER TELLTALE
LIGHTS
This area will show reconfigurable
amber caution telltales. These tell-
tales include:
Low Fuel Light
When the fuel level reaches ap-
proximately 11.0 L this light
will turn on, and remain on until
fuel is added. Loose Gascap Indicator
If the vehicle diagnostic sys-
tem determines that the fuel
filler cap is loose, improp-
erly installed, or damaged,
a loose gascap indicator will display in
the telltale display area. Tighten the
fuel filler cap properly and press the
SELECT button to turn off the mes-
sage. If the problem continues, the
message will appear the next time the
vehicle is started.
A loose, improperly installed, or dam-
aged fuel filler cap may also turn on
the Malfunction Indicator Light
(MIL).
Windshield Washer Fluid Low Indicator This light will turn on to
indicate the windshield
washer fluid is low. Wait To Start Light — Diesel
Engines Only The Wait To Start Light will
turn on when the ignition key is
first turned to the ON/RUN position.
Wait until the Wait To Start Light
turns OFF to start the engine. (Refer
to “Starting Procedures” in “Starting
And Operating” for further informa-
tion).
Water In Fuel Indicator Light — Diesel Engines Only Indicates there is water de-
tected in the fuel filter. If
this light remains on, DO
NOT start the vehicle be-
fore you drain the water from the fuel
filter to prevent engine damage. Refer
to “Maintenance Procedures/ Drain-
ing Fuel/Water Separator Filter” in
“Maintaining Your Vehicle” for water
drain procedure.

CAUTION!
Car maintenance should be done at
a LANCIA Dealership. For routine
and minor maintenance operations
you wish to carry out yourself, we do
recommend you have the proper
equipment, genuine LANCIA spare
parts and the necessary fluids; do
not however carry out these opera-
tions if you have no experience.
WINDSHIELD WIPER
BLADES
Clean the rubber edges of the wiper
blades and the windshield periodi-
cally with a sponge or soft cloth and a
mild nonabrasive cleaner. This will
remove accumulations of salt or road
film.
Operation of the wipers on dry glass
for long periods may cause deteriora-
tion of the wiper blades. Always use
washer fluid when using the wipers to
remove salt or dirt from a dry wind-
shield.
Avoid using the wiper blades to re-
move frost or ice from the windshield.
Keep the blade rubber out of contact with petroleum products such as en-
gine oil, gasoline, etc.
NOTE:
Life expectancy of wiper blades
varies depending on geographical
area and frequency of use. Ex-
amples of poor blade performance
include chattering, marks, water
lines, and wet spots. If any of these
conditions are present, clean the
wiper blades or replace as neces-
sary.
Adding Washer Fluid
The windshield, rear window, and
headlamp washers share a common
fluid reservoir. It is located in the en-
gine compartment and should be
checked at regular intervals. Fill the
reservoir with windshield washer sol-
vent (not radiator antifreeze) and op-
erate the system for a few seconds to
flush out any residual water.
When refilling the washer fluid reser-
voir, apply some washer fluid to a
cloth or towel and wipe the wiper
blades clean. This will help blade per-
formance.
To prevent freeze-up of your wind-
shield washer system in cold weather,
select a solution or mixture that meets
or exceeds the temperature range of
your climate. This rating information
can be found on most washer fluid
containers.
The washer fluid reservoir will hold
4 Liters of fluid when the Low Washer
Fluid Light illuminates.
WARNING!
Commercially available windshield
washer solvents are flammable.
They could ignite and burn you.
Care must be exercised when filling
or working around the washer solu-
tion.
After the engine has warmed, operate
the defroster for a few minutes to re-
duce the possibility of smearing or
freezing the fluid on the cold wind-
shield. Use All Weather Windshield
Washer Solution or equivalent, used
with water as directed on the con-
tainer, aids cleaning action, reduces
the freezing point to avoid line clog-
ging, and is not harmful to paint or
trim.
