just drive in the appropriate gear for conserv
ing fuel.

-This indicator can help you conserve fuel.
This indicator is not meant to show you
which gear you should a lways be in in all
driving situations. Sometimes, in s itua
tions such as passing, driving through mountains or when towing a trailer,
there won't be any gearsh ift recommen
dat ion.
- The display does not light up when the
clutch pedal is be ing depressed .

The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due .

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec
t ion is calculated automatically and d isp layed
accord ingly. The d isp lay works in two stages:

30 days before the next service is due, a serv
i ce reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ignition

After about 5 seconds the display switches
back to normal. The distance and time re
main ing are updated each time the ignit ion is
turned on until the date due for serv ice is
reached.
Service due
When the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appears in the instru
ment cluster immed iately after you turn on
the ignition. Addit ionally, a warning tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the disp lay
switches back to normal.
_& WARNING
-Always remove objects from the instru
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around inside the vehicle
whi le driving or when accelerating or
when applying the brakes or when driv
ing around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen
ter console or other storage locat ions
cannot fa ll out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake, depress the clutch or acceler
ate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen
gers inside the vehicle.
Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and
can be locked.

On the right s ide in the glove compartment is
a holde r with the key body into which the

glove compartment closed while driving.

Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off wh ile the vehicle is
mov ing . The engine will be switched off if you

- T he brake booster and se rvotronic only
work when the engine is running. With
the ignition turned off, you have to apply
more force when steering or braking .
Since you cannot steer and stop norma l
ly, this can lead to accidents and serious
injuries. -
The radiator fan can continue to run for
up to 10 minutes even after you have
turned off the engine and removed the
ignit ion key. The radiator fan can also
turn on again if the engine coolant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compa rtment.

Do not stop the engine immediately after
hard or extended driving . Keep the engine
runn ing for approximate ly two minutes to
prevent excess ive heat bu ild-up .

Changing speed

lever pressed down, you will alter your speed

You can a lso press the accelerator pedal down
to increase your speed, e.g. if yo u want to
pass someone. The speed you saved earl ier
will resume as soon as you let off of the accel
erator pedal.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
5 mp h (10 km/h) for longer than 5 minutes,
the cruise contro l will be turned offtempora -rily. The green symbo

The manual transmission in your Audi is

interlock-feature.

Neutral and the clutch pedal depressed.

Always depress the clutch pedal fully when
changing gears. Do not hold the vehicle on
a hill with the clutch pedal partially de
pressed. This may cause premature clutch
wear or damage.

- Resting your hand on the gearshift lever
knob while driving will cause premature

- The back-up lights go on when you sh ift

position, you must always apply the brake

A WARNING
-Unintended ve hicle movement can cause
serious injury.
- When the selector lever is i n a dr iving
position, the ve hicle may creep, even at
i dl e speed . Therefo re do not release
the par king brake or foot b rake until
you are re ady to move, because powe r
is transmit ted to the whee ls as soon as
a dr iving position is engaged.
- Do not ac celera te while selecti ng a
d riving posi tion. At th is time the en
g ine must be at idle speed so t hat un-

due stress is not placed on the clutches
in the transmiss ion.
- Remember: Even when stopped briefly
with the automatic transmission in D,S
or R, eng ine power is being transmit
ted to the wheels. Your veh icle cou ld
"creep" forward or backward. When

pressed and use the pa rking brake if
ne cessary to keep the vehicle from ro ll
i ng.
- I f the selecto r lever is un intent ionally
moved into N while you are dr iv ing, t ake
your foo t off the accelerator ped al and
wait for the engine to retu rn to idle
speed before se lecting a driving position .
- Never sh ift into
R or P when the vehicle is
in motion.
- Never get out of the driver's seat when
the engine is running.
- If you m ust ge t out of the vehicle, move
the selector lever secure ly into the P po
sition and apply the pa rking brake firmly.
- If t he eng ine mus t rem ain r unning , neve r
have any driving posit ion engaged w hen
checking under the hood. Make sure the
selector lever has securely engaged and
