Check light in the master key
The check light in the master key provides in­
formation about different conditions.

The check light comes on br iefly once when a
button is pressed, and during an "inquiry" by
the convenience key system .
If the check light does not come on , the bat­
tery is dead and has to be replaced . In addi­
tion, when the battery is dead
the m symbol
appears in the instrument cluste r display as
well as the message:

We recommend having the battery changed
by an authorized Audi dealer . However, if you
wish to replace the dead battery yourse lf, pro­
ceed as follows:

... Pull the mechanical key ® out of the mas­
ter key .

battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery ho lder out of the master key in the
direction of the arrow .
"' Insta ll the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+" sign facing down.
... Push the battery holder carefu lly into the
maste r key.
... Insta ll the mechanical key.

D ispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to poll ute the environment.

The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the o rigina l.

Never use a fast charger as a booster to
start the engine. This will seriously dam­
age sensitive electronic components, such
as control units, relays, radio, etc., as well
as the battery charger.
Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifi­
cations and dimensions as the original equip­
ment battery.
Intelligent energy management in your vehi­
cle is responsible for distributing the electri­
cal energy throughout your vehicle
c::, page 211. The intelligent energy manage­
ment system w ill keep the engine battery
charged bette r then ve hicles w ithout this sys­
tem. To ma ke sure t he addi tional e lectrical en­
ergy is available once again after you have
changed the battery, we recommend that you
install batteries of the same type and man u­
facture only (the same as those installed at
the time your vehicle was delivered). Specifi­
cations are listed on the battery housing. Your
author ized Audi dealer must code the battery
i n the energy management system to enable
you to use the energy management functions
correctly after replac ing the bat tery .
If it is not possible to use a battery of this
type, the new battery must have the same ca­ pac ity, voltage (12 volts), amperage, con­
s truction and pl ug seal ing .
When insta lli ng the battery, make sure the ig ­
ni tion and all e lectr ica l cons umers are turned
off.

of a batte ry, we recommend your author­

you. Batteries contain sul fur ic acid and
l ead and must always be disposed of prop­
erly in comp liance with a ll environmental
regulations. Disposing of vehicle batter ies
i mproperly is very dange rous to the envi­
r o nment .
