The cargo area light has a three-
position switch. In the OFF position,
the light does not come on. In the
center position, it comes on when
you open the tailgate. In the ON
position, it stays on continuously.To change the ‘‘INTERIOR LIGHT
DIMMING TIME’’ setting, see page

Your vehicle also has a courtesy light
in the ignition switch. This light
comesonwhenyouopenthedriver’s
door. It f ades out in about 30
seconds af ter the door is closed.
The courtesy light in each f ront door
comes on when the door is opened,
and goes out when the door is closed.
With the tailgate open, the light
stays on about 30 minutes, then goes

When the indicator in the button is
on, air f rom the vehicle’s interior is
sent throughout the system again.
When the indicator is off, air is
brought in f rom the outside of the
vehicle (fresh air mode).
Thesystemshouldbeleftinfresh
air mode under almost all conditions.
Keeping the system in recirculation
mode, particularly with the A/C of f ,
can cause the windows to fog up.
Switch to recirculation mode when
driving through dusty or smoky
conditions, then return to fresh air
mode. The outside air intakes f or the
heating and cooling system are at
the base of the windshield. Keep this
area clear of leaves and other debris.
Turn the dial clockwise to increase
the fan speed and airflow. Turn the
dial counterclockwise to decrease
them.
Turning this dial clockwise increases
the temperature of the airflow.
This button turns the air
conditioning on and of f . The
indicatorinthebuttonisonwhen
the A/C is on.

Air f lows f rom the def roster
vents at the base of the windshield. Airf low is divided between
the f loor vents and def roster vents at
the base of the windshield. Air f lows f rom the f loor
vents. When you select , the
system automatically switches to
f resh air mode.
Airf low is divided between
the vents in the dashboard and the
f loor vents. Air flows from the center
and corner vents in the dashboard. Use the mode control buttons to
select the vents air flows from. Some
air will f low f rom the dashboard
corner vents in all modes. Pushing this button also turns the
power mirror heaters on and of f . This button turns the rear window
def ogger on and of f (see page ). When you select , the system
automatically switches to f resh air
mode and turns on the A/C. For
f aster def rosting, manually set the
fanspeedtohigh.Youcanalso
increase airf low to the windshield by
closing the corner vents on the
dashboard.
When you turn of f by
pressing the button again, the
system returns to its former settings.
For your saf ety, make sure you have
a clear view through all the windows
bef ore driving.
When you select or ,
the system automatically switches to
Fresh Air mode and turns on the
A/C. In these modes, the A/C stays
on with the indicator off.
This button directs the main airflow
to the windshield for faster
def rosting. It also overrides any
mode selection you may have made.

Air conditioning places an extra load
on the engine. Watch the engine
coolant temperature gauge (see page). If it moves near the red mark,
turn of f the A/C until the gauge
reads normally.
Pressing the A/C button turns the
air conditioning ON and OFF. The
indicator in the button comes on
when the A/C is ON.
The heater uses engine coolant to
warm the air. If the engine is cold, it
will be several minutes bef ore you
f eel warm air coming f rom the
system. Select and fresh air mode.
Set the f an to the desired speed.
Adjust the warmth of the air with
the temperature control dial.
The ventilation system draws in
outside air, circulates it through the
interior, then exhausts it through
vents near the rear side panels.
Set the temperature to the lower
limit.
Make sure the A/C is of f .
Select and fresh air mode.
Set the f an to the desired speed.
The system automatically turns on
the A/C and switches to
recirculation mode (see page to
use this setting). Air f lows f rom the
center and side vents in the
dashboard. Pressing the , the
MAX A/C button, or the mode
control button cancels MAX A/C,
but the A/C stays on.
Make sure the temperature is set
to the lower limit.
Select .
If the outside air is humid, select
recirculation mode. If the outside
air is dry, select f resh air mode.
Set the f an to the desired speed.you can
cool it down more rapidly by partially
opening the windows, turning on the
air conditioning, and setting the f an

The indicator in the A/C button
will not come on (LX and Canadian
DX models), or the A/C ON
indicator will not come on (EX,
EX-L, Touring, and Canadian SE
models), if the A/C was of f to
start with.

controls to maximum level.To turn the system completely off,
press the ON/OFF button.
Keep the system completely of f
f or short periods only.
To keep stale air and mustiness
f rom collecting, you should have
the f an running at all times.
To clear the windows f aster, you can
close the dashboard corner vents by
rotating the wheel next to each vent.
This sends more warm air to the
windshield def roster vents. Once the
windshield is clear, select f resh air
mode to avoid f ogging the windows.

selected. Press the temperature control
