Wiper and washer switch

The
windscreen wiper and washer can be operated
with the ignition switch in the “ON” or “ACC” po-
sition.
Move the switch to operate the windscreen wipers
or spray the washer fluid.
Windscreen wipers MIST- Misting function
The wipers will operate once.
OFF- Off
INT- Speed sensitive intermittent operation The intermittent intervals will change
with the speed of the vehicle.
LO- Slow
HI- Fast NOTE
l The speed-sensitive-operation function of the
windscreen wipers can be deactivated.
For
further information, we recommend you
to consult a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Author-
ized Service Point.
On a vehicle equipped with a Multi Display
Station (MDS), the functions can be adjusted
on the screen. Refer to the separate operation
manual for details.
To adjust intermittent intervals
With the lever in the “INT” (speed-sensitive inter-
mittent operation) position, the intermittent inter-
vals can be adjusted by turning the knob (A). 1- Fast

Misting function
Move the lever in the direction of the arrow and re-
lease, to operate the wipers once.
Use this function when you are driving in mist or
drizzle. If the lever is held in the upward position (MIST),
the

wipers continue operating until the lever is re-

The washer fluid will be sprayed onto the wind-
screen

by pulling the lever towards you. The wip-
ers operate automatically several times while the
washer fluid is being sprayed.
On a vehicle equipped with a headlamp washer, the
headlamp washer operates together with the wind-
screen washer the first time the windscreen washer
is used if the headlamps are on. Instruments and controls

CAUTION
l
If the washer is used in cold weather, the
washer fluid sprayed against the glass
may freeze resulting in poor visibility.
Heat the glass with the defroster or demis-
ter before using the washer.
NOTE l It

is possible to spray washer fluid without ac-
tivating the wipers. To do so, hold the lever
in the pulled position and turn the ignition
switch to the “ON” or “ACC” position.
l It is possible to cause the wipers never to op-
erate when washer fluid is sprayed. For fur-
ther information, we recommend you to con-
sult a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized
Service Point.
On a vehicle equipped with a Multi Display

The rear window wiper and washer switch can be
operated

with the ignition switch in the “ON” or
“ACC” position. Turn the knob, and the rear window wiper will op-
erate.
INT- The wiper operates continuously for sev-
eral
seconds then operates intermittently
at intervals of about every 8 seconds
OFF- Off -
The washer fluid will be sprayed onto
the

rear window when the knob is turned
fully in either direction.
The wipers operate automatically several
times while the washer fluid is being
sprayed. NOTE
l To

ensure a clear rearward view, the wiper
performs a number of continuous operations
either when the switch is moved to the
“INT” position or when the gearshift lever
(M/T) or the selector lever (A/T) is moved to
the “R” position while the switch is in the
“INT” position.
Following this continuous operation, the wip-
er will automatically switch to intermittent op-
eration.
l It is possible to spray washer fluid without ac-
tivating the wiper. To do so, hold the knob at
the end of the lever in the “ ”
position and
turn the ignition switch to the “ON” or
“ACC” position.
l It is possible to activate the following func-
tions. For further information, we recom-
mend you to consult a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
On a vehicle equipped with a Multi Display
Station (MDS), the functions can be adjusted

• Adjustment of the interval for intermit-tent operation
• Causing the wipers to switch to continu- ous operation when the knob at the end
of the lever is turned to the “INT” posi-
tion twice within approximately 1 second
• Changing intermittent wiper operation to continuous wiper operation
• Causing the wiper never to operate when washer fluid is sprayed. Instruments and controls

Precautions to observe when using wip-
ers and washers

l If
the moving wipers become blocked by ice
or other deposits on the glass, the motor may
burn out even if the wiper switch is turned to
OFF. If obstruction occurs, park your vehicle
in a safe place, turn off the ignition, and
clean the deposits from the glass so that the
wipers operate smoothly.
l Do not use the wipers when the glass is dry.
They may scratch the glass surface or the
blades may prematurely wear out.
l Before using the wipers in cold weather,
check that the wiper blades are not frozen on-
to the glass. The motor may burn out if the
wipers are used with the blades frozen onto
the glass.
l Avoid using the washer continuously for
more than 20 seconds. Do not operate the
washer when the fluid reservoir is empty.
Otherwise, the motor may burn out.
l Periodically check the level of washer fluid
in the reservoir and refill if required.
During cold weather, add a recommended
washer solution that will not freeze in the
washer reservoir. Failure to do so could re-
sult in loss of washer function and frost dam-
age to the system components. Headlamp washer switch*

The
headlamp washer can be operated when the ig-
nition switch is in the “ON” or “ACC” position and
the headlamps are on.

Push the button once and the washer fluid will be
sprayed on to the headlamps. NOTE
l If

the ignition switch is in the “ON” or
“ACC” position and the headlamps are on,
the headlamp washer operates together with
the windscreen washer the first time the wind-
screen washer lever is pulled. Rear window demister switch

The

rear window demister switch can be operated
with the ignition switch in the “ON” position.
Push the switch to turn on the rear window demis-
ter. It will be turned off automatically in about 20
minutes. To turn off the demister within about 20
minutes, push the switch again.
The indication lamp (A) will illuminate while the
demister is on. NOTE
l When

the rear window demister switch is
pressed, the outside rear-view mirrors are de-
fogged or defrosted. Refer to “Heated mir-
ror” on page 4-08.
l The demister switch is not to melt snow but
to clear mist. Remove snow before use of the
demister switch.
l To avoid unnecessary discharge of the bat-
tery, do not use the rear window demister dur-
ing starting of the engine or when the engine
is not running. Turn the demister off immedi-
ately after the window is clear. Instruments and controls

NOTE
l Only
open the bonnet when the wipers are in
the parked position. Failure to do so may
cause bonnet damage.
Support the bonnet by inserting the support bar in
its slot. CAUTION
l
Note
that the support bar may disengage
the bonnet if the open bonnet is lifted by
a strong wind.
l Always insert the support bar into the
hole provided specifically for this pur-
pose. Supporting the bonnet at any other
location could result in the support bar
slipping out and lead to an accident.
To close
Unlatch the support bar and clip it in its holder. Slowly lower the bonnet to a position about 30 cm
above the closed position, then let it drop.
NOTE
l If

this does not close the bonnet, release it
from a slightly higher position.
l Do not press down the bonnet hard with a
hand as it may damage the bonnet. CAUTION
l
Be
careful that hands or fingers are not
trapped when closing the bonnet.
l Before driving, make sure that the bon-
net is securely locked. An incompletely
locked bonnet can suddenly open while
driving. This can be extremely dangerous. Engine oil

Wiper blades

If
the blades are frozen to the windscreen or rear
window, do not operate the wipers until the ice has
melted and the blades are freed, otherwise the wip-
er motor may be damaged.
Wiper blade rubber replacement
Windscreen wiper blades
1. Lift the wiper arm off the windscreen.
2. Pull the wiper blade (A) downward to re-move it completely from the wiper arm (B). NOTE
l Do

not allow the wiper arm to fall onto the
windscreen; it could damage the glass.
3. Attach the retainers (C) to a new wiper blade. Refer to the illustration to ensure that the re-
tainers

are correctly aligned as you insert
them into the groove. NOTE
l If

retainers are not supplied with the new wip-
er blade, use the retainers from the old blade.
4. Position the wiper blade stopper (D) as shown and insert the blade into the wiper
arm (B) from the lower end of the arm. 5. Slide
the wiper blade (A) until it contacts the
end of the wiper arm (B). NOTE
l After

installation, gently pull up and down
on the wiper blade to make sure the stopper
is securely engaged.
Rear window wiper blade 1. Lift the wiper arm off the window glass.
2. Pull the wiper blade downward to disengageit from the stopper (A) at the end of the wip-
er arm. Pull the wiper blade further to re-
