.If the engine has stopped running, you need torestart it. With the brake pedal pressed and theparking brake still applied, shift the transmissionto P (Park) and restart the engine. Then, shift toR (Reverse), release the parking brake, andslowly back down the hill as straight as possiblein R (Reverse).
.While backing down the hill, put your left handon the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock positionso you can tell if the wheels are straight and canmaneuver as you back down. It is best to backdown the hill with the wheels straight rather thanin the left or right direction. Turning the wheel toofar to the left or right will increase the possibilityof a rollover.
Things not to do if the vehicle stalls, or is about to stall,when going up a hill:
.Never attempt to prevent a stall by shifting intoN (Neutral) to rev-up the engine and regain forwardmomentum. This will not work. The vehicle can rollbackward very quickly and could go out of control.
.Never try to turn around if about to stall whengoing up a hill. If the hill is steep enough to stallthe vehicle, it is steep enough to cause it to rollover. If you cannot make it up the hill, back straightdown the hill.
If, after stalling, you try to back down the hill and decideyou just cannot do it, set the parking brake, put yourtransmission in P (Park), and turn off the engine. Leavethe vehicle and go get some help. Exit on the uphill sideand stay clear of the path the vehicle would take if itrolled downhill.
Driving Downhill
When off-roading takes you downhill, consider:
.How steep is the downhill? Will I be able tomaintain vehicle control?
.What is the surface like? Smooth? Rough?Slippery? Hard-packed dirt? Gravel?
.Are there hidden surface obstacles? Ruts? Logs?Boulders?
.What is at the bottom of the hill? Is there a hiddencreek bank or even a river bottom with largerocks?
If you decide you can go down a hill safely, try to keepthe vehicle headed straight down. Use a low gear soengine drag can help the brakes so they do not have todo all the work. Descend slowly, keeping the vehicleunder control at all times.

Weight!Distributing Hitch Adjustment

When using a weight-distributing hitch, the spring barsshould be adjusted so the distance (A) is the sameafter coupling the trailer to the tow vehicle and adjustingthe hitch.
Hitch Cover
The vehicle may have a hitch cover. To remove thehitch cover:
1. Turn the fasteners on the lower tabs 90 degreescounterclockwise.
2. Lift the lower edge of the cover about 45 degrees.
3. Pull the cover downward to disengage the upperattachments.

To reinstall the hitch cover:
1. Hold the cover at a 45 degree angle to the vehicleand push the upper tabs in the hitch cover into thechrome slots in the fascia.
2. Move the bottom of the cover forward until thelower tabs line up with the lower fascia slots.
3. Snap the hitch cover into place by pushing theupper corners forward.
4. Turn the fasteners on the lower tabs 90 degreesclockwise to lock the cover in place.
Safety Chains
Always attach chains between the vehicle and thetrailer. Cross the safety chains under the tongue of thetrailer to help prevent the tongue from contacting theroad if it becomes separated from the hitch. Instructionsabout safety chains may be provided by the hitchmanufacturer or by the trailer manufacturer. If the trailerbeing towed weighs up to 5,000 lbs (2 271 kg) with afactory-installed step bumper, safety chains may beattached to the attaching points on the bumper,otherwise, safety chains should be attached to holes onthe trailer hitch platform. Always leave just enoughslack so the combination can turn. Never allow safetychains to drag on the ground.

To open the fuel door, push the rearward center edge inand release and it will open.
To remove the fuel cap, turn it slowly counterclockwise.The fuel cap has a spring in it; if the cap is released toosoon, it will spring back to the right.
While refueling, hang the tethered fuel cap from thehook on the fuel door.
{WARNING:
Fuel can spray out on you if you open the fuel cap
too quickly. If you spill fuel and then something
ignites it, you could be badly burned. This spray
can happen if the tank is nearly full, and is more
likely in hot weather. Open the fuel cap slowly and
wait for any hiss noise to stop. Then unscrew the
cap all the way.
Be careful not to spill fuel. Do not top off or overfill thetank and wait a few seconds after you have finishedpumping before removing the nozzle. Clean fuel frompainted surfaces as soon as possible. SeeWashingYour Vehicle on page 7!102.
When replacing the fuel cap, insert the tether in its holebefore tightening the cap. Turn the fuel cap clockwiseuntil it clicks. It will require more effort to turn the fuelcap on the last turn as you tighten it. Make sure the capis fully installed. The diagnostic system can determine ifthe fuel cap has been left off or improperly installed.This would allow fuel to evaporate into the atmosphere.SeeMalfunction Indicator Lamp on page 4!36

If no coolant is visible in the surge tank, add coolantas follows:
1. You can remove thecoolant surge tankpressure cap whenthe cooling system,including the coolantsurge tank pressurecap and upper radiatorhose, is no longer hot.
Turn the pressure cap slowly counterclockwiseabout one full turn. If you hear a hiss, wait forthat to stop. A hiss means there is still somepressure left.
2. Keep turning the pressure cap slowly andremove it.
3. Fill the coolant surge tank with the proper mixtureto the FULL COLD mark.

4. At a wall, measure from the ground upward (A) tothe recorded distance from Step 3 and mark it.
5. Draw or tape a horizontal line (B) on the wall thewidth of the vehicle at the height of the mark inStep 4.
Notice:Do not cover a headlamp to improve beamcut-off when aiming. Covering a headlamp maycause excessive heat build-up which may causedamage to the headlamp.
6. Turn on the low-beam headlamps and place apiece of cardboard or equivalent in front of theheadlamp not being adjusted. This allows only thebeam of light from the headlamp being adjusted tobe seen on the flat surface.
7. Locate the vertical headlamp aiming screws, whichare under the hood near each headlamp assembly.
The adjustment screw can be turned with aE8 Torx®socket.
8. Turn the vertical aiming screw until the headlampbeam is aimed to the horizontal tape line. Turn itclockwise or counterclockwise to raise or lower theangle of the beam.

LED Lighting
The vehicle may have LED headlamps. Forreplacement of the LED lighting assembly contactyour dealer/retailer.
Back-Up Lamps
To replace this bulb:
1. Open the liftgate. SeePower Liftgateonpage 3!14for moreinformation.
2. Remove the twoscrews from thetaillamp assembly.
3. Pull the taillamp assembly rearward until youdisengage the inner pins on the taillamp assemblyfrom the vehicle.
4. Press the release tab, if the bulb socket has one,and turn the socket counterclockwise to remove itfrom the taillamp assembly.
5. Pull the old bulb straight out from the socket.
6. Press a new bulb into the socket, insert the socketinto the taillamp assembly and turn the socketclockwise into the taillamp assembly until it clicks.

7. Reinstall the taillamp assembly. When reinstalling,make sure to line up the pins on the taillampassembly with the vehicle. If you do not line up thepins correctly, you will not be able install thetaillamp assembly properly.
If you need to replace the taillamp, stoplamp, or turnsignal, you will need to see your dealer/retailer forservice.
License Plate Lamp
1. Remove the two screws holding each of thelicense plate lamps to the molding that is part ofthe liftgate.
2. Twist and pull the license plate lamp forwardthrough the molding opening.
3. Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull thebulb straight out of the socket.
4. Install the new bulb.
5. Reverse Steps 1 through 3 to reinstall the licenseplate lamp.
