T h e S t o p & S t a r t s y s t e m p u t s t h e e n -
g i n e t e m p o r a r i l y o n s t a n d b y - S T O P
m o d e - d u r i n g s t o p s i n t h e t r a f fi c
( r e d l i g h t s , t r a f fi c j a m s , o r o t h e r . . . ) .
The engine restarts automatically -
S T A R T m o d e - a s s o o n a s y o u w a n t
to move off. The restart takes place
instantly, quickly and silently.
P e r f e c t f o r u r b a n u s e , t h e S t o p &
S t a r t s y s t e m r e d u c e s f u e l c o n s u m p -
t i o n a n d e x h a u s t e m i s s i o n s a s w e l l
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system, at speeds be-
low 4 mph (6 km/h), press the
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N .
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby: I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d
with the system, a time
counter calculates the
sum of the periods in
S T O P m o d e d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t r e s t s
itself to zero every time the ignition
is switched on with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
m a o e u v r e s , S T O P m o d e i s n o t a v a i l -
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
S T O P m o d e d o e s n o t a f f e c t t h e f u n c -
t i o n a l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e , s u c h a s f o r e x -
ample, braking, power steering...
Never refuel with the engine
i n S T O P m o d e ; y o u m u s t
switch off the ignition with the key. Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
In this case, the "ECO"
w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r a
few seconds then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.
S T O P m o d e i s n o t i n v o k e d w h e n :
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- t h e v e h i c l e h a s n o t e x c e e d e d 6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (bat- tery charge, engine tempera-
ture, braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.

In the event of a malfunction with
the system, the "ECO OFF" switch

on continuously.
Have it checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
I n t h e e v e n t o f a f a u l t i n S T O P m o d e ,
the vehicle may stall. It is then nec-
essary to switch off the ignition and
start the engine again using the
key.
Operating fault
T h e S t o p & S t a r t s y s t e m
makes use of advanced
t e c h n o l o g y . S p e c i a l i s t k n o w l e d g e
is needed for any work on the sys-
tem, which can only be assured by
CITROËN dealers. Before working under the
b o n n e t , d e a c t i v a t e t h e S t o p &
S t a r t s y s t e m t o a v o i d a n y r i s k
of injury resulting from automatic
o p e r a t i o n o f S T A R T m o d e .
Maintenance
This system requires a battery with
a s p e c i a l s p e c i fi c a t i o n a n d t e c h n o l -
ogy (reference numbers available
from CITROËN dealers).
Fitting a battery not listed by
CITROËN introduces the risk of
malfunction of the system.

Never select positions P or R
if the vehicle is not stationary.
If, while the vehicle is moving, po-
sition N is engaged inadvertently,
allow the engine to idle before en-
gaging position D or M .
Moving off
To start the engine, the gear
lever must be in position P or N .
Operate the starter.
When the engine is running,
place the gear lever on R , D or
M as required.
Check, in the instrument panel,
the position engaged.
Release the brake pedal and ac-
celerate.
To avoid a possible difference
between the position of the gear
lever and the actual position of
t h e g e a r b o x , a l w a y s e x i t f r o m
position P with the ignition on
and brake pedal applied.
Otherwise, when the ignition is on or
the engine is running:
reposition the gear lever in posi-
tion P ,
put your foot on the brake ped-
al and then select the gear you
want. Park
This position of the gear le-
ver is used to prevent the
vehicle from moving when
you are stationary.
To select position P, move the
gear lever back to the highest
position (towards R ), then push
it forwards and then to the left.
T o e x i t p o s i t i o n P , move the gear
lever to the right and then to the
position you want.
Only engage this position when
the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary. In this position, the front
wheels are locked. Make sure
that the gear lever is correctly
positioned. Reverse gear
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Neutral Never select position N if
the vehicle is moving.

Automatic operation
Move the gear lever to position D .
T h e g e a r b o x c o n s t a n t l y s e l e c t s the gear that is best suited to the
following parameters:
- driving style,
- r o a d p r o fi l e
- vehicle load.
T h e g e a r b o x o p e r a t e s w i t h o u t r e q u i r -
ing any intervention on your part.
F o r c e r t a i n m a n o e u v r e s ( f o r e x -
ample overtaking), you can obtain
m a x i m u m a c c e l e r a t i o n b y p r e s s i n g
the accelerator pedal hard down
past the point of resistance, which
then produces an automatic change
down to a lower gear. W h e n b r a k i n g , t h e g e a r b o x m a y
change down automatically in order
to provide effective engine braking.
If you lift your foot off the accelerator
a b r u p t l y , t h e g e a r b o x w i l l n o t e n g a g e
a higher gear.
Manual operation
Position of the gear lever for manual
gear changing.
Move the gear lever to position M .
Push the gear lever towards the
" + " sign to change up a gear.
Pull the gear lever towards the " - "
sign to change down a gear. - If the vehicle stops or reduces
s p e e d ( f o r e x a m p l e w h e n a p -
proaching a stop sign), the gear-
b o x c h a n g e s d o w n a u t o m a t i c a l l y
t o fi r s t g e a r .
- In sequential mode, it is not nec- essary to release the accelerator
during gear changes.
- A request to change gear is ac- cepted only if the engine speed
permits it.
- The SPORT and SNOW modes
do not operate in sequential
mode.

SPORT programme "S"
These two special programmes sup-
plement the automatic operation in
very particular conditions of use.

In the event of a malfunction, the
g e a r b o x i s b l o c k e d i n o n e g e a r ;
d o n o t e x c e e d a s p e e d o f 6 2 m p h
(100 km/h).
Do not turn off the engine while the
gear selector is in position D or R .
Never press the accelerator and
brake pedals simultaneously.
Braking and acceleration should
be done with the right foot only.
Pressing both pedals simultane-
o u s l y m a y d a m a g e t h e g e a r b o x .

SPEED LIMITER
S y s t e m w h i c h p r e v e n t s t h e v e h i -
c l e f r o m e x c e e d i n g t h e s p e e d p r o -
grammed by the driver.
When the limit speed is reached, the
accelerator pedal no longer has any
effect.
The speed limiter is switched
on manually: a speed of at least
2 0 m p h ( a p p r o x . 3 0 k m / h ) m u s t b e
programmed.
The speed limiter can in no way re-
place respect for speed limits or vigi-
lance and responsibility on the part
of the driver.
Steering mounted controls
The speed limiter switches are lo-
cated on the left-hand side of the
steering wheel. Displays on the instrument
panel
The speed limiter information is dis-
played in zone
A of the instrument
panel.
Programming
Press on button 4 to select speed
limiter mode " LIMIT ".
T h e s e l e c t i o n i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e
display of the function in zone A of
the instrument panel. Activation
Press on button 3 when the de-
s i r e d m a x i m u m s p e e d i s d i s -
played.
The information "ON" then appears
in zone A .
When the function is selected, the
last memorised speed and the infor-
mation "PAUSE" are displayed.
With the engine running, you can
a d j u s t t h e m e m o r i s e d m a x i m u m
speed, displayed in zone A , by
pressing on:
Button 1 to increase the memo-
r i s e d m a x i m u m s p e e d .
Button 2 to decrease the memo-
r i s e d m a x i m u m s p e e d . S u c c e s s i v e p r e s s e s w i l l m o d i f y t h e
m a x i m u m s p e e d i n s t e p s o f 1 m p h
and a continuous press in steps of
5 mph.

In the event of a steep descent or
u n d e r e x c e s s i v e a c c e l e r a t i o n , t h e
speed limiter (which does not act
on the brakes) may not be able to
p r e v e n t t h e v e h i c l e f r o m e x c e e d i n g
the programmed speed.
U s e o f a fl o o r m a t o t h e r t h a n t h a t
recommended by CITROËN may
affect the normal operation of the
accelerator pedal and hamper the
operation of the speed limiter.
Floor mats approved by CITROËN
a r e fi t t e d w i t h a 3 r d fi x i n g l o c a t e d i n
the pedal area to avoid any risk of
interference with the pedals.
Suspension/Resumption
Press on button 3 .
This action causes the information
"PAUSE" to appear in zone A of the
instrument panel.
This action does not cancel the
m e m o r i s e d m a x i m u m s p e e d w h i c h
remains displayed in zone A of the
instrument panel. Overriding the programmed
speed
The accelerator pedal has an end-
o f - t r a v e l s w i t c h . I n o r d e r t o e x c e e d
t h e m e m o r i s e d m a x i m u m s p e e d a t
any time, you can press the pedal
all the way down. While the speed
i s b e i n g e x c e e d e d , t h e s p e e d d i s -
played in zone
A w i l l fl a s h . Y o u h a v e
only to release the accelerator pedal
t o r e t u r n b e l o w t h e m a x i m u m s p e e d ,
to restore the function.
T h e s p e e d w i l l a l s o fl a s h i f t h e s p e e d
limiter is not able to prevent the vehi-
c l e f r o m e x c e e d i n g t h e p r o g r a m m e d
speed (e.g. on a steep descent or
u n d e r e x c e s s i v e a c c e l e r a t i o n ) .
To reactivate the speed limiter, re-
lease the accelerator to slow to a
speed lower than the programmed
speed. Return to normal driving
Either press on button 5 .
Or select the speed limiter function.
Or stop the engine.
Operating fault
If there is a malfunction, a mes-
sage is displayed accompanied by
an audible signal and lighting of the
SERVICE warning lamp.
Have it checked by a CITROËN
dealer.

Cruise control must only be
u s e d w h e r e t h e t r a f fi c c o n d i -
tions permit driving at a con-
stant speed .
Do not use it on congested
roads or when the weather or the
road conditions are poor .
The driver must remain attentive
and in complete control of the ve-
hicle .
You are recommended to keep your
feet within range of the pedals .
Overriding the programmed
speed
While cruise control is in operation,
it is always possible to go above the
programmed speed simply by press-
i n g t h e a c c e l e r a t o r p e d a l ( f o r e x a m -
ple to overtake another vehicle).
The speed displayed in zone
A
fl a s h e s .
You only have to release the ac-
celerator pedal to return to the pro-
grammed speed.
Suspension/Resumption
Either by pressing the brake
pedal or the clutch pedal.
Or by pressing button 3 .

being active.
F o r v e h i c l e s w i t h a m a n u a l g e a r b o x ,
cruise control is deactivated if the
gear lever is in neutral. Reactivation

By recalling the memorised
speed
After deactivation, press button 3 .
Your vehicle automatically returns
to the memorised cruising speed.
The memorised speed and "ON"
are displayed in zone A .
If the memorised cruising speed is higher than the current speed,
the vehicle will accelerate strong-
ly to reach the current speed.
- By selecting the current speed
Press button 1 or 2 once the de-
sired speed has been reached.
The new speed and "ON" will
appear in zone A .
Return to normal driving
Either press on button 5 .
Or select the cruise control function.
Or stop the engine.
The speed that was chosen is no
longer memorised.
"PAUSE" will be displayed in zone A
of the instrument panel.
These actions do not cancel the
cruising speed which remains dis-
played on the instrument panel. Operating fault
If there is a malfunction, a mes-

an audible signal and lighting of the
SERVICE warning lamp.
