SPORT mode: gear lever in po-
sition A and a press on button 1 .
S i x - s p e e d e l e c t r o n i c g e a r b o x s y s -
tem which offers a choice between
the comfort of fully automatic opera-
tion or the pleasure of manual gear
changing.
There are two driving modes:
-
automatic operation for elec-
tronic control of the gears by the
g e a r b o x ,
- manual operation for sequential
gear changing by the driver,
In automated mode, it remains pos-
sible to change gear manually by
using the steering mounted control
p a d d l e s , w h e n o v e r t a k i n g , f o r e x -
ample.
A SPORT programme is available in
automated mode, providing a more
dynamic driving style. Mode selection
The steering mounted paddles
cannot be used to select neutral
or to engage or disengage reverse
gear.
+. Change up paddle to the right of
the steering wheel.
Press the back of the "+" steer-
ing mounted paddle to change
up a gear.

Manual gear changing
This selective gear change mode
e n a b l e s y o u t o o v e r t a k e , f o r e x a m -
ple, while still remaining in automat-
ic mode.
Operate the + or - steering
mounted control paddle.
T h e g e a r b o x e n g a g e s t h e g e a r r e -
quested if the engine speed per-
mits.
After a few moments without any
a c t i o n o n t h e c o n t r o l s , t h e g e a r b o x
resumes automatic control of the
gears.

T h e g e a r b o x c o n t i n u o u s l y s e l e c t s
the most suitable gear, depending
on the:
- style of driving,
- p r o fi l e o f t h e r o a d .
- vehicle loading.
Automatic operation
F o r o p t i m u m a c c e l e r a t i o n , f o r e x a m p l e
when overtaking another vehicle, press
t h e a c c e l e r a t o r p e d a l fi r m l y p a s t t h e
point of resistance.
S e l e c t p o s i t i o n M .
Manual operation
On sharp acceleration, the gear-
b o x w i l l n o t c h a n g e u p u n l e s s t h e
driver acts on the gear lever or the
steering mounted paddles.
Never select neutral
N while the
vehicle is moving.
Only engage reverse gear R when
the vehicle is immobilised with the
brake pedal pressed.
The gear change requests are only
carried out if the engine speed per-
mits.
It is not necessary to release the ac-
celerator during gear changes.
When braking or slowing down, the
g e a r b o x c h a n g e s d o w n a u t o m a t i -
cally to allow vehicle to accelerate in
the correct gear.
The
SPORT programme is inopera-
tive with sequential operation.

When immobilising the ve-
hicle, with the engine running,
you must place the gear lever
in neutral N .
Before carrying out any work in the
engine compartment, check that
the gear lever is in neutral N and
that the parking brake is applied.
SPORT programme Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can choose to:
- move to position N to engage
neutral,
- leave the gear engaged; in this case, it will not be possible to
move the vehicle.
In both cases, you must apply the
parking brake to immobilise the ve-
hicle. Operating fault
W i t h t h e i g n i t i o n o n , t h e fl a s h i n g o f
AUTO , accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the mul-
tifunction screen, indicates a mal-
f u n c t i o n o f t h e g e a r b o x .
Have it checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
Wit the gear lever at A and the
engine running, press button S to
activate the SPORT programme,
which provides a more dynamic
driving style.
S appears in the instrument panel.
Press the S button again to
switch it off.
S then disappears from the instru-
ment panel screen. You must press the brake pedal
when starting the engine.
Whatever the circumstances, you
must manually apply the parking
brake when parking, unless the
parking brake is programmed in au-
tomatic mode.

A position grille associated with the
gear lever allows you to view the
selected position.
For safety:
- position P can be disen-
gaged only if you press
the brake pedal,
- when a door is opened, an au- dible signal is heard if the gear
lever is not in position P ,
- always make sure that the gear lever is in position P before you
leave your vehicle.
I f t h e g e a r b o x i s i n p o s i t i o n P but
the position of the gear lever is dif-
ferent, reposition the gear lever on
P so that you can start the vehicle.
AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
A u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x w h i c h o f f e r s a
choice between the comfort of fully
automatic operation, enhanced by
the sport and snow programmes, or
manual gear changing.
Four driving modes are provided:
- automatic operation for elec-
tronic control of the gears by the
g e a r b o x ,
- the SPORT programme for a
more dynamic driving style,
- the SNOW programme to im-
prove driving when the grip is
poor,
- manual operation for sequen-
tial changing of the gears by the
driver.

Automatic operation
Move the gear lever to position D .
T h e g e a r b o x c o n s t a n t l y s e l e c t s the gear that is best suited to the
following parameters:
- driving style,
- r o a d p r o fi l e
- vehicle load.
T h e g e a r b o x o p e r a t e s w i t h o u t r e q u i r -
ing any intervention on your part.
F o r c e r t a i n m a n o e u v r e s ( f o r e x -
ample overtaking), you can obtain
m a x i m u m a c c e l e r a t i o n b y p r e s s i n g
the accelerator pedal hard down
past the point of resistance, which
then produces an automatic change
down to a lower gear. W h e n b r a k i n g , t h e g e a r b o x m a y
change down automatically in order
to provide effective engine braking.
If you lift your foot off the accelerator
a b r u p t l y , t h e g e a r b o x w i l l n o t e n g a g e
a higher gear.
Manual operation
Position of the gear lever for manual
gear changing.
Move the gear lever to position M .
Push the gear lever towards the
" + " sign to change up a gear.
Pull the gear lever towards the " - "
sign to change down a gear. - If the vehicle stops or reduces
s p e e d ( f o r e x a m p l e w h e n a p -
proaching a stop sign), the gear-
b o x c h a n g e s d o w n a u t o m a t i c a l l y
t o fi r s t g e a r .
- In sequential mode, it is not nec- essary to release the accelerator
during gear changes.
- A request to change gear is ac- cepted only if the engine speed
permits it.
- The SPORT and SNOW modes
do not operate in sequential
mode.

SPORT programme "S"
These two special programmes sup-
plement the automatic operation in
very particular conditions of use.

This programme makes moving off
easier and improves traction in con-
ditions of poor grip.

At any time, press the button
s e l e c t e d a g a i n t o e x i t f r o m t h e
programme engaged and return
to auto-adaptive mode. A strong snatch may be felt
when selecting
R for reverse
gear.
In the event of a malfunction, the
g e a r b o x i s b l o c k e d i n o n e g e a r ;
d o n o t e x c e e d a s p e e d o f 6 2 m p h
(100 km/h).
Do not turn off the engine while the
gear selector is in position D or R .
Never press the accelerator and
brake pedals simultaneously.
Braking and acceleration should
be done with the right foot only.
Pressing both pedals simultane-
o u s l y m a y d a m a g e t h e g e a r b o x .
