Climatronic* (automatic air conditioning)Description The Climatronic system is a combin
ation of an automatic heating,
fresh air and cooling system which provides optimal comfort for the occupants of the car.The Climatronic maintains a constant temp
erature fully automatically, once it has
been set. This is achiev
ed by automatically varying the temperature of the
outflowing air, the blower stages and the ai
r distribution. The system also takes into
account bright sunlight which eliminates
the need to alter the settings manually.
The
automatic mode
⇒page 90 ensures maximum wellbeing of the occupants at
all times of the year. Description of Climatronic system The cooling operates only if the following conditions are met:•
engine running,
•
outside temperature above +5 °C,
•
the button is
not
pressed.
If the cooling system is switched on, the temperature and air humidity drops in the vehicle. The wellbeing of the occupants of
the car is enhanced as a result of this
particularly at high outs
ide temperatures and a high air humidity. The system
prevents the windows misting up during the cold season of the year. The heating effect is dependent upon th
e coolant temperature, thus full heat
output only occurs when the engine has reached its operating temperature. It is possible to briefly activate recirc
ulated air mode in order to enhance the
cooling effect

The air inlet in front of the windscreen must be free of ice, snow or leaves in order to ensure that the heating and cooling systems operate properly. The AC compressor is switched off at a hi
gh coolant temperature in order to provide
cooling at a high load of the engine.
After switching on the cooling
Condensation
from the evaporator of the air condi-
tioning may drip down and form a puddle be
low the vehicle. This is quite normal
and not an indication of a leak! If you make a change before switching off
the ignition, which differs from the auto-
matic mode, the changed functions remain
stored. Only the function “circulating
air” is erased 20 minutes after switching off the ignition. Recommended setting for all periods of the year:•

We recommend that you do not smoke in the vehicle when the recirculating air
mode is operating since the smoke which is drawn at the evaporator from the inte- rior of the vehicle forms deposits in the
evaporator of the air
conditioning system.
This produces a permanent odour when the air conditioning system is operating which can only be eliminated through considerable effort and expense (replace- ment of compressor).•
The used air streams out through the air removal openings in the luggage
compartment.•

Range of sensors The clearance warning begins at a distance of about 160 cm from the obstacle (area ⇒page 97, fig. 108
). The interval between the warning signals becomes shorter
as the clearance is reduced. A continuous tone
sounds from a distance of approx. 30 cm (area ) - danger
area.
You should not reverse any further after this signal sounds!
Activating The parking aid is activated automatically when
reverse gear
is engaged and the
ignition is turned on. This is confir
med by a brief acknowledgement signal.
Deactivating The parking aid is deactivated by removing the reverse gear.
WARNING
•
The parking aid is not a substitute fo
r the driver paying proper attention
and it is always the driver's responsibility to take care when parking the vehicle or carrying ou
t similar manoeuvres.
•
You should therefore satisfy yourself, before reversing, that there is no
small obstacle, such as a rock, thin post, trailer drawbar etc., behind your vehicle. Such an obstacle might not be within the range detected by the sensors.
Note
•
The parking aid does not operate if you
are towing a trailer (applies to models
which feature a factory-fitted towing device*).•
If a warning signal sounds for about 3 seconds after switching the ignition on
and engaging reverse gear, and there is no ob
stacle close to your vehicle, this indi-
cates a system fault. Have the fault rectified by a specialist workshop.•
The sensors must be kept clean and free
of ice to enable the parking aid to
operate properly.
Cruise control system (CCS)*IntroductionThe cruise control system (CCS) maintains a constant speed, more than 30 km/h (20 mph), once it has been set, without you
having to depress the accelerator pedal.
This is only possible within the range wh
ich is permitted by
the power output and
braking power of the engine. The cruise control system makes it possible - particu- larly on long journeys - for you to rest your “accelerator foot”.
WARNING
•
The cruise control system must not, for safety reasons, be used in dense
traffic or on unfavourable road surfaces
(such as icy roads, slippery roads or
loose chippings) - risk of accident!•
In order to prevent unintentional use of
the cruise control system, always
switch off the system after use.
Note
•
Models fitted with a manual gearbox: Al
ways depress the clutch pedal if you
switch on the cruise control system when
the gearbox is in Neutral. Otherwise the
engine can rev up unintentionally.•
The cruise control system is not able to maintain a constant speed when driving
on steep downhill sections. The weight of the vehicle increases the speed at which it travels. One should shift down in good
time to a lower gear or slow the vehicle
down by applying the foot brake.

Engine oilEngine oil specifications The grade of engine oil should be selected in accordance with precise specifications.The engine of your vehicle has been fact
ory-filled with a high-grade oil which you
can use throughout the year - exce
pt in extreme climatic regions.
You can mix various oils together with each other when refilling with oil. This does not, however, apply for models with
flexible service intervals (QG1).
Engine oils are, of course, undergoing co
ntinuous further deve
lopment. Thus the
information stated in this Owner's Manual is only correct at the time of publication. Specialist garages are informed by Škoda Auto about current changes. We recom- mend having this oil change und
ertaken by a specialist garage.
The specifications (VW standards) stated in the following must be indicated sepa- rately or together with other specifications on the bottle. Engine oil specifications for vehicles with fixed service intervals (QG0, QG2)

Caution
Only the above-mentioned oils may be used on vehicles with flexible service inter- vals (QG1). We recommend always refilling with oil of the same specification since this will maintain the properties of the oi

spare wheel*
differs from the tyres fitted to the vehicle (e.g. winter tyres or
low-profile tyres), the spare wheel* should only be used for a short time in the event of a puncture and when adopting an
appropriately cautious style of driving.
It should be replaced as quickl
y as possible by a normal wheel.
WARNING

Only use those tyres or wheel rims
which have been approved for your
model of Škoda Auto vehicle. Failure to observe this instruction will adversely affect the road safety of your vehicle - risk of accident! Approval and licencing of your vehicle on public roads may also become void as a result.•
You must on no account drive at a higher speed than is permissible for

Tyres which are 6 years old or more should only be fitted in exceptional

Do not, where possible, replace indivi
dual tyres but at least replace them
on both wheels of a given axle at the same time. Always fit the tyres with the deeper tread depth to the front wheels.

Old tyres must be disposed
of in conformity with the appropriate regulations.
Note
It is not normally possible to fit wheels
from other models of cars for technical
reasons. This may also apply in certain
circumstances to the wheels of the same
type of vehicle.Wheel boltsWheels and
wheel bolts
are matched to each other in
terms of design. Each time
you fit other wheels - e.g. light alloy wheels
or wheels with winter tyres - you must
therefore also use the matching wheel bolts of the correct length and shape of spherical cap. This is essent
ial to ensure that the wheels are tightly fitted and that
the brake system operates properly. If you retrofit
wheel trims
(or have this done), please also ensure that an adequate
flow of air remains assured for cooling the brake system. The specialist garages are informed abou
t the technical possibilities which exist
regarding converting or retrofitti
ng wheels, tyres and wheel trims.
WARNING
•
In case of incorrect treatment of th
e wheel bolts, the
wheel can loosen
when the car is moving - risk of accident!•
The wheel bolts must be clean and must
turn easily. However, they must
never be treated with grease or oil.•
If the wheel bolts are tightened to a too low tightening torque, the rim
can lossen when the car is moving - risk of accident! A tightening torque which is too high can damage the bolts and threads and this can result in permanent deformation of the contact surfaces on the rims.
Caution
The prescribed tightening torque of the wh
eel bolts for steel and light alloy wheels
is 120 Nm.
