MANUAL MODE
Note:
Status ET097 "Manual mode" is applicable for the following sub-functions:
–"Gear changes".
–"Driver parameters".
STATUS
DEFINITIONINACTIVE: indicates that the manual mode is inactive whenever the gear lever is not
in "M" position, or when manual mode is faulty.
M +: shows that the gear lever is in position M +.
M -: shows that the gear lever is in position M -.
ACTIVE: indicates that manual mode is active when the gear lever is in position "M".
NOTESSpecial notes:
Apply the conformity check to see if the statuses are consistent with the operating
programs of the system.
Conformity check with engine stopped, ignition on or engine running.
INACTIVE
Check that, with gear lever in a position other than "M", status ET097 "Manual mode"
is "INACTIVE".
If a fault occurs, check that status ET012 "Gear lever position" corresponds to the lever
position.
Look for any damage to the wiring and check the condition and connection of the
connectors for components 119 and 129.
If the connection is faulty and there is a repair procedure (see Technical Note 6015A,
Electrical wiring repair, Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the wiring, otherwise
replace it.
Check the continuity and insulation of the following connections:
●connection code 5H (sequential lever M+ signal),
●connection code 5FM (sequential lever M- signal),
between components 119 and 129.
Check for + 12 V after ignition feed on connection AP43 of component 129.
Check for earth on connection N+ of component 129.
If the connection or connections are faulty and there is a repair procedure (see
Technical Note 6015A, Electrical wiring repair, Wiring: Precautions for repair),
repair the wiring, otherwise replace it.
AFTER REPAIRCarry out a road test, then check with the diagnostic tool.

ALP1 No dialogue with the computer
NOTESSpecial notes:
Only consult this customer complaint after a multiplex network check using the
diagnostic tool.
Make sure that the vehicle + after ignition feed is activated. Check the presence and condition of the UPC automatic
transmission fuses.
Check that the tool is not the cause of the fault, by attempting dialogue with a different system (UCH, Injection,
etc.) on the same vehicle or another vehicle.
Carry out another multiplex network test on the vehicle using the diagnostic tool:
Is the automatic transmission computer recognised?
NO YES
Check that the computer connector is properly
connected and check the condition of its
connections.
Check for the automatic transmission supply fuse on
the passenger compartment connection unit, and its
condition.
Check the battery voltage:
9.5 V < battery voltage < 15.5 V
Carry out the necessary operations to obtain a
correct voltage: Carry out a full check on the battery
and the charging circuit (see Technical
Note 6014A, Charging circuit check).
Establish dialogue with the automatic transmission
computer.
Communication successful at first attempt?
NO YES
Is the identification
screen displayed
after 3 attempts?
End of fault finding.
AFTER REPAIRDeal with any faults detected by the diagnostic tool. Clear the computer memory.
Carry out a road test, then check with the diagnostic tool.

YES NO
Check the condition and level of the
transmission oil (colour).
Does the condition of the oil suggest there
is an internal fault with the automatic
transmission?
NO
End of fault finding. Review the cause
against the customer complaint.
Check that the selection cable is correctly adjusted
and the gear lever correctly positioned at the lever
position sensor located on the automatic
transmission (see MR 370 mechanical, 37A,
Automatic gear controls, Adjustment).
Carry out a test on the gear selector.
Are they consistent?
NO YES
