A/T FLUID
Checking A/T Fluid INFOID:0000000004305295
1. Warm up engine.
2. Check for A/T fluid leakage.
3. Before driving, A/T fluid level can be checked at A/T fluid tem- peratures of 30 ° to 50 °C (86 ° to 122 °F) using the “COLD” range
on A/T fluid level gauge.
• A : Front side
• B : Reverse side
• C : Add
• D : OK
a. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake.
b. Start engine and move selector lever through each gear posi- tion. Leave selector lever in “P” position.
c. Check A/T fluid level with engine idling.
d. Remove A/T fluid level gauge and wipe clean with lint-free cloth. CAUTION:
When wiping the A/T fluid l evel gauge, always use lint-free
cloth.
e. Re-insert A/T fluid level gauge into A/T fluid charging pipe as far as it will go.
CAUTION:
Firmly fix the A/T fluid level ga uge to the A/T fluid charging
pipe using the stopper attached.
f. Remove A/T fluid level gauge and note reading. If reading is at low side of range, add A/T fluid to the A/T fluid charging pipe.
CAUTION:
Do not overfill.
4. Drive vehicle for approximately 5 minutes.
5. Re-check A/T fluid level at A/T fluid temperatures of 50° to 80 °C (122 ° to 176 °F) using “HOT” range on A/
T fluid level gauge.
CAUTION:
• When wiping the A/T fluid level gauge, always use lint-free cloth.
• Firmly fix the A/T fluid level ga uge to the A/T fluid charging pipe using the stopper attached.
6. Check A/T fluid condition and make any necessary repairs. Refer to AT-51, " Inspections Before Trouble
Diagnosis " . If the A/T fluid contains frictional material (clu
tches, bands, etc.), or if the A/T is repaired, over-
hauled, or replaced, inspect and clean the A/T fluid cooler mounted in the radiator. Refer to AT-18, " A/T
Fluid Cooler Cleaning " .
7. Install the removed A/T fluid level gauge into the A/T fluid charging pipe. CAUTION:
Firmly fix the A/T fluid level gaug e to the A/T fluid charging pipe using the stopper attached.
Changing A/T Fluid INFOID:0000000004305296
1. Warm up A/T fluid.
2. Stop engine.
3. Drain A/T fluid by removing the drain plug. Re install the drain plug to the specified torque.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse drain plug gasket.
4. Refill the transaxle with new specified A/T fluid th rough the A/T fluid charging pipe. Always refill the tran-
saxle with the same volume of A/T fluid that was drained out. B

TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS
Description
If a malfunction occurs in electrical system, turning igni tion switch ON will illuminate OD OFF indicator lamp for
2 seconds. To detect a malfunction, entering a self-diagnosis start signal retrieves information on malfunctions
from memory and indicates malfunction by blinking OD OFF indicator lamp.
Diagnostic Procedure 1.
CHECK OD OFF INDICATOR LAMP
1. Park vehicle on flat surface.
2. Move selector lever to “P” position.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF. Wait at least 5 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
Does OD OFF indicator lamp come on about 2 seconds? YES >> GO TO 2.
NO >> Stop procedure. Perform AT-181, " OD OFF Indicator
Lamp Does Not Come On " before proceeding.
2.
JUDGEMENT PROCEDURE STEP 1
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Keep pressing shift lock release button.
3. Move selector lever from “P” to “D” position.
4. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
5. Keep pressing overdrive control switch while OD OF F indicator lamp is lighting up for 2 seconds. (OD
OFF indicator lamp is on.)
6. Keep pressing overdrive control switch and shift select or lever to the “2” position. (OD OFF indicator lamp
is on.)
7. Stop pressing overdrive control switch. (OD OFF indicator lamp is on.)
8. Shift selector lever to the “1” position. (OD OFF indicator lamp is on.)
9. Keep pressing overdrive control switch. (OD OFF indicator lamp is off.)
10. Depress accelerator pedal fully while pressing overdrive control switch.

DTC P0732 A/T 2ND GEAR FUNCTION
Description INFOID:0000000004305373
• This malfunction will not be detected while the OD OFF indicator lamp is indicating another self-diagnosis malfunction.
• This malfunction is detected when the A/T does not shif t into second gear position as instructed by the TCM.
This is not caused by electrical malfunction (circuit s open or shorted) but by mechanical malfunction such as
control valve sticking, improper solenoid valve operation, etc.
On Board Diagnosis Logic INFOID:0000000004305374
• This is an OBD-II self-diagnostic item.
• Diagnostic trouble code “P0732 A/T 2ND GR FNCTN” with CONSULT-III is detected when A/T cannot be
shifted to the 2nd gear position even if electrical circuit is good.
• This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checki ng the torque converter slip ratio calculated by TCM
as follows:
Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B
A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from ECM
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes
If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than
normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specif ied value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.
This malfunction will be caused when shift solenoid valve B is stuck open.
• Gear positions supposed by TCM are as follows: In case of gear position with no malfunctions: 1, 2, 3 and 4 positions
In case of gear position with shift solenoid valve B stuck open: 4, 3*, 3 and 4 positions to each gear position
above
*: “P0732 A/T 2ND GR FNCTN” is detected.
Possible Cause INFOID:0000000004305375
• Shift solenoid valve B
• Each clutch
• Hydraulic control circuit
DTC Confirmation Procedure INFOID:0000000004305376
CAUTION:
• Always drive vehicle at a safe speed.
• If performing this “DTC Confirmation Procedure” again, always turn ignition switch OFF and wait at
least 10 seconds before continuing.
After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm the malfunction is eliminated.
WITH CONSULT-III
1. Start engine and select “DATA MONITOR” m ode for “TRANSMISSION” with CONSULT-III.
2. Touch “START”.
3. Make sure that output voltage of A/T fluid temperature sensor is within the range below. FLUID TEMP SE: 0.4 - 1.5 V
If out of range, drive the vehicle to decrease the vo ltage (warm up the fluid) or stop engine to increase the
voltage (cool down the fluid).
4. Select “2ND GR FNCTN P0732” of “DTC & SR T CONFIRMATION” mode for “TRANSMISSION” with
CONSULT-III and touch “START”.
5. Accelerate vehicle to 45 to 50 km/h (28 to 31 MPH) under the following conditions and release the accel- erator pedal completely.

Description INFOID:0000000004305397
• This malfunction will not be detected while the OD OFF indicator lamp is indicating another self-diagnosis malfunction.
• This malfunction is detected when the A/T does not shif t into fourth gear position or the torque converter
clutch does not lock-up as instructed by the TCM. This is not caused by electrical malfunction (circuits open
or shorted) but by mechanical malfunction such as c ontrol valve sticking, improper solenoid valve operation,
malfunctioning oil pump or torque converter clutch, etc.
