To reduce the glareType 1The lever (A) at the bottom of th
e mirror can be used to adjust
the mirror to reduce the glare
from the headlamps of vehicles
behind you during night driving.
Type 2When the headlamps of the vehicles behind you are verybright, the reflection factor of
the rear-view mirror is automati-
cally changed to
reduce the glare.
Normally, use the automatic mo
de. When the switch (1) is
pressed, the indicator (2) illu
minates and the reflection factor
of the mirror is automatically changed.NOTE●
Do not hang items on, or spray glass cleaner on the sensor (3), as reduced sensitivity could result.

NOTE●
For vehicles equipped with Daytime Running Lamps, when the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the headlamp low beams etc. are turned on. Refer to “Headlamps” on page 3-58.
●
Your vehicle is equipped wi
th an electronic immobilizer.
To start the engine, the ID code which the transponder inside the key sends must match the one registered to theimmobilizer computer. Refer to “Electronic immobilizer” on page 1-3.
Ignition switch illuminationIn the situations listed below, the ignition switch illumination comes on to facilitate insertion or removal of the ignition key.●
When any door or the backdoor is opened, the ignition switch illumination comes on. When it is closed, the igni- tion switch illumination becomes steadily dimmer untilcompletely going off about 15 seconds later.
●
When the ignition key is removed with all the doors and the backdoor closed, the ignition switch illuminationcomes on and stays on
for about 15 seconds.
The ignition switch illumination immediately goes off if any of the following actions is taken while it is on. ●
All the doors and the backdoor are closed, and the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position.
●
All the doors and the backdoor
are locked using the cen-
tral door locking function.
●
All the doors and the backdoo
r are locked using the key-
less entry system (if so equipped).

Inspection and main
tenance following
rough road operation
E00606700048
After operating the vehicle in rough road conditions, be sure to perform the following inspection and maintenance procedures: ●
Check that the vehicle has not been damaged by rocks, gravel, etc.
●
Carefully wash the vehicle with water. After washing, drive the vehicle slowly while lightlydepressing the brake pedal in order to dry out the brakes. If the brakes still do not function properly, we recommend you to have the brakes checked as soon as possible.
●
Remove the insects, dried grass, etc. clogging the radiator core.
●
After crossing a stream, be sure to have the following items inspected at a MITS
UBISHI MOTORS Authorized
Service Point and take the necessary measures. • Check the brake system and,
if necessary, have it serv-
iced. • Check the engine, transmissi
on, transfer, and differential
oil or grease level and turbid
ity. If the oil or grease is
milky, it indicates water co
ntamination. Replace it with
new oil or grease. • Grease the propeller shaft.• Check the inside of the vehi
cle. If ingress of water is
found, dry the carpet etc. • Inspect the headlamps. If th
e headlamp bulb is flooded
with water, we recommend you to have it drained.
Cautions on handling
of 4-wheel drive
vehicles
E00606800401
Tyres and wheelsSince the driving torque can be
applied to the 4 wheels, the per-
formance of the vehicle when
operating in 4-wheel drive is
greatly affected by th
e condition of the tyres.
Pay close attention to the tyres. ●
Install specified tyres on all
wheels. Refer to “Tyres and
wheels” on page 9-13.
●
Be sure to fit all 4 tyres an
d wheels of the same size and
type. When replacement of any of th
e tyres or wheels is neces-
sary, replace all of them.
●
All tyres should be rotated
whenever the wear difference
between the front and rear tyres is recognizable.

NOTE●
It is possible to set the display language of the screen to English, Spanish, French,
German, Italia
n, Swedish,
Dutch, Danish or Portuguese. For details, please refer to the separated owner’s manualfor “Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (MMCS)”.
●
When the vehicle is tilting b
ecause of the number of peo-
ple in the vehicle, the weight and positioning of luggage,and/or the condition of the road surface, the lines in the view from the rear-view camera may not be accurately positioned relative to the actual road.
●
The lines in the view from the rear-view camera are based on a level, flat road surface. Do not use them as a guide for distances to solid objects.
●
Because the rear-view camera has a special lens, the lines on the ground between parking spaces may not look paral- lel on the screen.
●
In the following situations, the screen indication may be difficult to see. There is no abnormality. • Low light (nighttime)• When the light of the sun or the light from a vehicle’s headlamps shines directly into the lens → When an extremely bright spot is shown on the screen, colour smearing* (a
characteristic of CCD cam-
eras) can occur.
●
Colour smearing: When an
extremely bright spot (for
example, sunlight that has
reflected off the bumper) is
shown on the screen, it appear
s to leave a vertical trail.
●
If the camera is hot and is th
en cooled by rain or a car
wash, the lens can mist up. This phenomenon does not indicate a malfunction.

CAUTION
!●
The rear-view camera has a special lens that can make objects shown on the screen appear to be closer or further away th
an they actually are.
●
The line (red) shows the point approximately 50 cm behind the rear extremity of the rear bumper. Be careful because the spare wheel garnish over- hangs for approximately 30 cm behind the rearextremity of the rear bumper.

Because of the necessity of this
anti-corrosion agent, the cool-
ant must not be replaced with
plain water even in summer. The
required concentration of anti
-freeze differs depending on the
expected ambient temperature.During cold weatherThe engine coolant mixture used
at the factory provides protec-
tion against freezing for temperat
ures as low as approximately
-30 °C. The concentration should
be checked before the start of
cold weather and anti-freeze adde
d to the system if necessary
to prevent damage to engine
and radiator due to freezing.

Windscreen washer fluidThe windshield washer fluid reservoir is in the engine compart- ment. Check the washer fluid level
at regular intervals and add
washer fluid to reservoir if necessary.NOTE●
The washer fluid container
serves the windscreen and
headlamps (if so equipped).

CAUTION
!●
Do not use alcohol or me
thanol anti-freeze or any
engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanolanti-freeze. The use of an improper anti-freeze can cause corrosion of the
aluminium components.
●
For effective anti-corro
sion and anti-freeze per-
formance, keep the anti-f
reeze concentration within
the range of 30 to 60 %. Concentrations
exceeding 60 % will result in a
reduction of both the an
ti-freeze and cooling per-
formance thus adversely
affecting the engine.
●
Do not top up with water only.

Replacement of lamp bulbs
E01003100521
Before replacing a bulb, ensure the lamp is off. Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with your bare fingers; the skin oil left on the glass will evapor
ate when the bulb gets hot and
the vapor will condense on th
e reflector and dim the surface.
NOTE●
Do not attempt to repair or
replace the lamp bulbs other
than described in this owner’s manual. For repair or replacement, contact a MITS
UBISHI MOTORS Author-
ized Service Point.
●
If you are unsure of how to carry out the work as required, we recommend you to consult a specialist.
●
Be careful not to scratch the vehicle body when removing a lamp or lens.
●
When it rains or when the
vehicle has been washed, the
inside of the lens sometimes becomes foggy. This is the same phenomenon as when window glass mists up on a humid day, and does not indicate a functional problem. When the lamp is switched on, the heat will remove the fog. However, if water gathers inside the lamp, we recom- mend you to have it checked.
