You will otherwise damage the soft top and
other parts of the vehicle. Opening i
Make sure the soft top is dry before you
open it. Otherwise, water could enter the
interior or luggage compartment.
X Move the selector lever to P.
X Apply the parking brake.
X Make sure that the key is in position 2in
the ignition lock.
X Fold raised sun visors onto the windscreen. 1
Release lever left
2 Release lever right
X Swing release lever 1to the left until a
warning tone sounds.
X Swing release lever 2to the right.
The soft top is unlocked. The soft top switch is located on the overhead
control panel.

To close the soft top
4 To open the soft top
X Press the soft top switch in the direction of
arrow 4until the soft top is fully open and
the warning tone stops.
X Swing release lever 1and 2back to their
original positions.
Closing X
Move the selector lever to P.
X Apply the parking brake.
X Make sure that the key is in position 2in

X Swing release lever 1to the left until a
warning tone sounds.
X Swing release lever 2to the right.
The soft top is unlocked. 3
To close the soft top
4 To open the soft top
X Press the soft top switch in the direction of
arrow 3until the soft top stops above the
windscreen. 5
Handle X
Pull down the soft top using handle 5until
at least one of the release levers engages
audibly.
X Swing this release lever back to its original
position first.
X Swing the second release lever back to its
original position.
The warning tone ceases.
i If the soft top cannot be closed automat-
ically, it can also be closed manually
(Y page 232).
i Avoid repeatedly opening and closing the
soft top. This discharges the vehicle bat-
tery.
Draught stop The draught stop is a wind protection device
for driving with the soft top open. It is located
in a bag behind the rear bench seat.

Risk of accident
Remove the draught stop if your vision is
restricted or as soon as it is dark. It could
otherwise impair your rear view and you
could cause an accident.
Make sure the draught stop is engaged cor-
rectly in the mountings. Otherwise, it may Controls

vehicle and injure yourself and other per-
sons.
Do not drive the vehicle with the draught
stop fitted if the rear seat is occupied.
Do not place any objects on top of the fitted
draught stop.
Fitting 1
Bag with zipper

X Take draught stop 2out of bag 1. X
Attach the rails of draught stop 2to the
vehicle roll bar (arrows). 3
Securing bar
4 Bracket X
Hook securing bar 3into brackets 4in
the side trim panels on both sides.
X Press securing bar 3into brackets 4until
you feel it engage on both sides.
Removing
X Pull securing bar 3out of bracket 4on
both sides.
X Unhook the rails of draught stop 2from
the roll bar.
X Stow the draught stop so that it is protec-
ted from damage, for example, in the bag
behind the rear seat.
Tonneau cover* The tonneau cover protects the opened con-
vertible soft top from dirt and the effects of
weather. It is located in a bag in the luggage
compartment.
Fitting
X
Take the tonneau cover out of the bag in
the load compartment.
X Fold out the tonneau cover and lay it over
the opened soft top. Controls

X Attach securing hooks 2to rear seat back-
rest 1on both sides. 3
Tenax fasteners
4 Press-studs
5 Quick-release fastener
X Pull tenax fasteners 3apart to release
them.
X Press tenax fasteners 3onto the corre-
sponding pegs on the vehicle.
X Push press studs 4onto the correspond-
ing pegs on the vehicle.
X Push quick-release fasteners 5into the
corresponding holes on the tailgate until
they engage.
Removing
X Turn quick-release fasteners 5anti-clock-
wise and pull out.
X Detach press-studs 4. X
Pull tenax fasteners 3to detach them.
X Detach securing hooks 2.
X Fold up the tonneau cover and stow it in the
bag in the load compartment. Controls

Cup holder

Risk of injury
Keep the cup holder closed while the vehi-
cle is in motion. Otherwise, vehicle occu-
pants could be injured by objects being
thrown around if you:
R brake sharply
R change direction suddenly
R are involved in an accident
Only use the cup holders for containers of
a suitable size and which have lids. Other-
wise, the drinks could spill.
Cup holders should not be used for hot
drinks. Otherwise, you may scald yourself. Cup holder in the glove compartment X

compartment.

Risk of accident and injury
An incorrectly secured roof rack, ski rack
or load could become detached from the
vehicle. These objects may then be thrown
around and can injure you or others or
cause an accident. Follow the roof rack/ski
rack manufacturer's installation instruc-
tions and special instructions for use.
The roof load raises the vehicle's centre of
gravity, thereby affecting vehicle handling.
Always observe the maximum roof load
(see the "Technical Data" section). Always
adapt your driving style to the prevailing
road, traffic and weather conditions and
drive with particular care if the roof is laden.
! Mercedes-Benz recommends that you
only use roof rack systems which have
been tested and approved for Mercedes-
Benz vehicles. This helps to prevent dam-
age to the vehicle.
Position the load on the roof rack in such a
way that the vehicle will not sustain dam-
age even when it is in motion.
Make sure that, depending on the vehicle's
equipment, you can fully raise the sliding/ tilting sunroof* and fully open the rear door
(station wagon).
X Follow the manufacturer’s installation
instructions when fitting the roof carrier
system. Luggage net in the front-passenger

Risk of injury
Only place lightweight objects in the lug-
gage net. Do not use it to transport heavy,
sharp-edged or fragile objects. The luggage
net cannot secure the objects sufficiently
in the event of an accident. Loading guidelines

Risk of poisoning
Keep the boot lid/tailgate closed when the
engine is running. Otherwise, you could be
poisoned by exhaust fumes entering the
vehicle.
The handling characteristics of a laden vehi-
cle depend on the distribution of the load
within the vehicle. You should therefore load
your vehicle as shown in the illustrations. Load distribution
Observe the following notes when transport-
ing a load:
R When transporting a load, never exceed the
maximum permissible gross vehicle weight
or the permissible axle loads for the vehicle
(including occupants).
R Position heavy loads as far forwards and as
low down in the luggage compartment as
possible.
R The load must not protrude above the
upper edge of the seat backrests.
R Always place the load against the front or
rear seat backrests. Controls

Always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
R If possible, always transport the load in the
luggage compartment with the seat backr-
ests folded up and engaged. R
If the rear bench seat is not occupied, insert
the belt tongue on the outer seat belts into
the buckle of the opposite seat belt.
R Secure the load with sufficiently strong and
wear-resistant load restraints. Pad sharp
edges for protection.
i Load restraints are available at any quali-
fied specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-
Benz Service Centre. Securing a load
Lashing eyelets G
Risk of injury
Distribute the load on the lashing eyelets
evenly.
Otherwise, vehicle occupants could be
injured by objects being thrown around if
you:
R brake sharply
R change direction suddenly
R are involved in an accident
Please observe the loading guidelines.
Observe the following points or guidelines
when securing loads:
R Secure the load using the lashing eyelets.
R Do not use elastic straps or nets to secure
a load, as these are only intended as an
anti-slip protection for light loads.
R If you are using tensioning straps, only use
straps with a minimum permissible tensile
strength of 600 daN and a percentage elon-
gation of approximately 7%.
R Do not route lashing materials across sharp
edges or corners. R
Pad sharp edges for protection.
R Load the anchorages evenly.
R Use all the lashing eyelets if possible.
R Do not overload the lashing eyelets if you
are using tensioning devices.
R Please read and observe the operating
instructions for the lashing material used.
Long-wheelbase station wagon
There are four lashing eyelets in the luggage
compartment mounted at the sides. Controls

Short-wheelbase station wagon and cab-
riolet
There are two further lashing eyelets moun-
ted at the sides in the luggage compartment
and under the rear bench seat. Guide the load restraints in a cross pattern
over the load, as shown in the illustration. Enlarging the luggage compartment
Short-wheelbase station wagon and cabrio-
let: the rear bench seat is split 50/50.
Long-wheelbase station wagon: the rear
bench seat is split 50/50.
The left-hand and right-hand rear seats can
be folded down to increase the luggage com-
partment capacity. You can:
R fold the seat backrests forward
R fold the rear bench seat back fully. G
Risk of injury
Do not carry heavy or hard objects inside
the vehicle or in the luggage compartment
unless they are secured.
Otherwise, you and other vehicle occu-
pants could be injured by objects being
thrown around the vehicle in the event of
sharp braking, a sudden change in direction
or an accident.
When using the luggage compartment
enlargement, you should always clip in the
safety net*, if at hand. G
Risk of poisoning
