PARKING THE CAR
Proceed as follows:
❒stop the engine and engage the
handbrake;
❒when on a slope, engage a gear
(engage first gear if the car is
faced uphill or reverse if it is faced
downhill) and leave the wheels
steered.
When parking the car on a steep
slope, it is advisable to also place a
wedge or a rock under the wheels.
PROLONGED parking with a wheel
on the pavement or steered against a
step should be avoided. Do not leave
the ignition key on MARto prevent
draining the battery. Always remove
the key when you leave the car.
HANDBRAKE
The handbrake lever is located be-
tween the two front seats.
Pull the lever upwards to operate the
handbrake.
Four or five notches are normally suf-
ficient to lock the car on flat terrain,
while nine or ten may be necessary on
a steep slope with the car loaded. IMPORTANT If this is not the case,
contact a Lancia Dealership to have
the handbrake adjusted.
When the handbrake lever is pulled
up and the ignition key is on MAR,
the instrument panel warning light
xwill turn on.
Proceed as follows to release the
handbrake:
❒slightly lift the handbrake and
press release button A-fig. 1;
❒keep button Apressed and lower
the lever. Warning light
xwill
turn off.
Press the brake pedal when carrying
out this operation to prevent the car
from moving accidentally.
IMPORTANT If the handbrake lever
tends to reach end of its stroke
(groove on the central console), con-
tact a Lancia Dealership to have the
handbrake adjusted.

Low engine oil pressure
When the ignition key is moved to
MAR, the warning light turns on and
should go out as soon as the engine is
started.
The display will show the dedicated
message.

Exhausted oil
The warning light turns on and
flashes along with the message on the
display when the system detects that
the engine oil is exhausted.
After the first indication, at each en-
gine start-up, the warning light
vcontinues to flash for about 60 sec-
onds and then every 2 hours until the
oil is changed.
If the warning light vturns on when the car is
travelling (on certain versions to-
gether with the message on the dis-
play) stop the engine immediately
and contact Lancia Dealership.
WARNING
If the warning light vflashes, promptly contact
Lancia Dealership in order to have
the oil changed and the warning
light on the instrument panel
turned off.
WARNING
“DUALDRIVE”
ELECTRIC POWER
STEERING FAILURE
(red)
When the ignition key is moved to
MAR, the warning light turns on and
should go off after a few seconds.
If the warning light stays on, the elec-
tric steering system provides no assis-
tance and the effort on the steering
wheel is increased, although steering
is still possible. In this case, go to a
Lancia Dealership.
The display will show the dedicated
message.

INCOMPLETE DOOR
LOCKING (red)
On certain versions the
warning light turns on when
one or more doors or the tailgate are
not properly closed.
The display will show the dedicated
message.
A buzzer is triggered when doors/tail-
gate are open and the car is moving.
´
SEAT BELTS NOT
FASTENED (red)
(where provided)
The warning light on the dis-
play lights up when the car is moving
and the driver’s seat belt is not cor-
rectly fastened. The warning light
flashes, and a buzzer is triggered, if
the driver’s seat belt is not correctly
fastened. The buzzer of the S.B.R.
(Seat Belt Reminder) system can be
disabled by the Lancia Dealership
only. The system can be enabled from
the “setup” menu.

Simultaneous turning on of the warn-
ing lightsxand>the engine is
running indicates an EBD system fail-
ure or non-availability of the system.
Early locking of the rear wheels may
occur in the event of violent braking
causing the car to swerve. Drive very
carefully to a Lancia Dealership to
have the system inspected.
The display will show the dedicated
message.

Injection system failure
When the ignition key is moved to
MAR, the warning light turns on and
should go out as soon as the engine is
started.If the warning light stays on or turns
on during car travel, it indicates that
the injection system is not operating
correctly, which could cause reduced
performance, poor drivability and
high consumption levels.
The display will show the dedicated
message.
In these conditions, the car can con-
tinue travelling at moderate speed
without demanding excessive effort
from the engine. In any case, go to a
Lancia Dealership as soon as possible.
EOBD engine control system
failure
Under normal conditions, when the
ignition key is moved to MAR, the
warning light turns on and should go
off after engine start-up. This indi-
cates that the warning light is work-
ing correctly. If the warning light ei-
ther stays on or comes on during car
travel:
❒steady light: indicates a fault in the
supply/ignition system which could
cause high emissions at the ex-
haust, possible reduced perfor-
mances, poor drivability and high
consumption levels. U
The display will show the dedicated
message.
In these conditions, the car can con-
tinue travelling at moderate speed
without demanding excessive effort
from the engine. Prolonged use of the
car with the warning light on may
cause damage. Go to a Lancia Deal-
ership as soon as possible. The warn-
ing light goes out after the fault is
cleared, and the indication is stored in
the system.
❒flashing light: indicates the possi-
bility of damage to the catalyser
(see “EOBD system” in section
“Dashboard and controls”).
If the warning light flashes, release the
accelerator pedal to lower the speed
of the engine until the warning light
stops flashing; continue the journey at
moderate speed, trying to avoid dri-
ving conditions that may cause fur-
ther flashing. Finally, contact Lancia
Dealership as soon as possible.

Emergency device for locking
doors from the outside
The doors are fitted with an emer-
gency device so that they can be
closed using a lock in the event of a
current failure.
In this case, to close the doors of the
car, proceed as follows:
❒fit the ignition key into the revolv-
ing plug B-fig. 1.
❒turn it to 1and close the door.

STARTING
THE ENGINE
STARTING WITH AN
AUXILIARY BATTERY
If the battery is lat, the engine may be
started using an auxiliary battery with
the same capacity or a little higher
than the flat one.
Proceed as follows:
❒connect the positive terminals (+
sign near the terminal) of the two
batteries using an appropriate ca-
ble; To re-open the door, proceed as fol-
lows:
❒fit the ignition key in the revolving
plug of the lock on the driver’s side
and turn it anticlockwise
❒open the door on the driver side
❒from the inside of the car, open the
remaining doors by lifting the re-
spective levers on the door han-
dles.

PROCEDURE
To replace the cylinder proceed as fol-
lows:
❒disconnect connection A-fig. 9;
❒turn the cylinder to be replaced
anticlockwise and raise it;
❒fit the new cylinder and turn it
clockwise;
❒connect connection Ato the cylin-
der and fit the transparent tube B
into the space provided.

Wheel changing and correct use of the
jack and of the small spare wheel call
for some precautions as listed below.
IMPORTANT If the vehicle is
equipped with a “Fix&Go (quick tyre
repair kit)”, see the relative instruc-
tions shown in the previous chapter.

Versions with alloy rims
❒Ensure that the surfaces in contact
with the hub are clean;
❒install the standard wheel by fit-
ting it on the centring pins. Fit the
fastening bolts and screw them
down using the wrench provided;
❒lower the car and remove the jack;
❒using the wrench provided, fully
tighten the bolts in the sequence
shown in fig. 15for the small
spare wheel;
❒refit the snap-fitted hub cap.When you have finished
❒stow the spare wheel in the space
provided in the boot;
❒ fit the jack partially open in its
box, forcing it lightly to prevent it
from vibrating when travelling;
❒put the tools back into their places
in the container;
❒stow the container, complete with
tools, into the spare wheel, screw-
ing in the locking device;
❒put the boot’s stiff preformed in-
sulating mat back in position.WHEN NEEDING
TO CHANGE
A BULB
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
❒When a bulb is not working, check
that the corresponding fuse is in-
tact before replacing it: refer to the
“If a fuse blows” paragraph in this
chapter for fuse location;
❒Before changing a bulb check the
contacts for oxidation;
❒burnt bulbs must be replaced by
others of the same type and power;
❒For safety reasons, always check
the height of the headlight beam
after changing a bulb.
Halogen lamps must be
handled holding the metal-
lic part only. Touching the
transparent part of the bulb
with your fingers may reduce the in-
tensity of the emitted light and even
compromise duration of the lamp it-
self. In the event of accidental con-
tact, rub the bulb with a cloth
dampened with alcohol and allow to
dry.

A All glass bulb: clipped into place.
Pull to extract.
B Bayonet bulbs: to remove this type
of bulb from its holder, press the
bulb and turn it anticlockwise.

tening clip from the correspond
ing seat to remove the lamp.

The rear sidelights and
brake lights and the third
brake light are LEDs so in the
event of malfunctioning, contact a
Lancia Dealership.
WARNING
IMPORTANT A slight misting may ap-
pear on the internal surface of the
headlight: this does not indicate a fault
and is caused by low temperature and
the degree of humidity in the air. Mist-
ing will rapidly disappear when the
headlights are switched on. The pres-
ence of drops inside the headlights in-
dicates infiltration of water. Contact a
