TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR SYMPTOMS

6. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Check control valve with TCM. Refer to AT- 2 3 6 , "
Control Valve With TCM and A/T Fluid Temperature Sen-
sor 2" .
2. Disassemble A/T. Refer to AT- 3 0 1 , "
DISASSEMBLY" .
3. Check the following.
–Oil pump assembly. Refer to AT- 3 2 2 , "Oil Pump" .
–Power train system. Refer to AT- 3 0 1 , "DISASSEMBLY" .
–Transmission case. Refer to AT- 3 0 1 , "DISASSEMBLY" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 7.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
7. CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION
1. Remove oil pan. Refer to AT- 2 3 6 , "
Control Valve With TCM and A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2" .
2. Check A/T fluid condition. Refer to AT- 5 3 , "
A/T Fluid Condition Check" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 8.
NG >> GO TO 11.
8. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check malfunction items. If any items are damaged, repair or replace damaged parts. Refer to AT- 6 4 , "
Symp-
tom Chart" (Symptom No.13).
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 9.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
9. CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again. Refer to AT- 5 9 , "
Cruise Test - Part 1" .
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> GO TO 10.
10. CHECK TCM
1. Check TCM input/output signals. Refer to AT- 8 9 , "
TCM Input/Output Signal Reference Values" .
2. If NG, recheck A/T assembly harness connector terminals for damage or loose connection with harness
connector.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
11 . DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check malfunction items. If any items are damaged, repair or replace damaged parts. Refer to AT- 6 4 , "

SYMPTOM:
A/T does not lock-up at the specified speed.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 9 2 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" , AT- 1 0 3 , "TCM SELF-DIAG-
NOSTIC PROCEDURE (NO TOOLS)" .
Is any malfunction detected by self-diagnostic results?
YES >> Check malfunctioning system. Refer to AT- 9 2 , "SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" , AT- 1 0 4 ,
"Judgement Self-diagnosis Code" .
NO >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK A/T FLUID LEVEL
Check A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 1 3 , "
Checking A/T Fluid" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Refill ATF.
3. CHECK LINE PRESSURE
Check line pressure at the engine stall point. Refer to AT- 5 5 , "
LINE PRESSURE TEST" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6.
NG - 1 >> Line pressure high: GO TO 4.
NG - 2 >> Line pressure low: GO TO 5.
4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Check control valve with TCM. Refer to AT- 2 3 6 , "
Control Valve With TCM and A/T Fluid Temperature Sen-
sor 2" .
2. Disassemble A/T. Refer to AT- 3 0 1 , "
DISASSEMBLY" .
3. Check the following.
–Oil pump assembly. Refer to AT- 3 2 2 , "Oil Pump" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.

13. Straighten terminal clip to free revolution sensor harness.
14. Remove bolts A, B and C from control valve with TCM.
15. Remove control valve with TCM from transmission case.
CAUTION:
When removing, be careful with the manual valve notch and
manual plate height. Remove it vertically.
16. Remove A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 with bracket from con-
trol valve with TCM.
17. Remove bracket from A/T fluid temperature sensor 2.

6. Install A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 (with bracket) in control
valve with TCM. Tighten A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 bolt to
the specified torque. Refer to AT- 2 3 6 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Adjust bolt hole of bracket to bolt hole of control valve with
TCM.
7. Install control valve with TCM in transmission case.
CAUTION:

Make sure that turbine revolution sensor securely installs
turbine revolution sensor hole.

Hang down revolution sensor harness toward outside so
as not to disturb installation of control valve with TCM.

Adjust A/T assembly harness connector of control valve
with TCM to terminal hole of transmission case.

Assemble it so that manual valve cutout is engaged with
manual plate projection.
8. Install bolts A, B and C in control valve with TCM.

ii. Install oil pan (3) (with oil pan gasket), clips (1) and brackets (2)
to transmission case.

CAUTION:

Install it so that drain plug comes to the position as
shown in the figure.

Be careful not to pinch harnesses.

Completely remove all moisture, oil and old gasket, etc.
from oil pan mounting surface.

Be careful with installation direction of brackets (2).
iii. Tighten oil pan mounting bolts to the specified torque in numeri-
cal order shown in the figure after temporarily tightening them.
Tighten oil pan mounting bolts to the specified torque. Refer to
AT- 2 3 6 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse oil pan mounting bolts.
16. Install drain plug to oil pan. Tighten drain plug to the specified
torque. Refer to AT- 2 3 6 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse drain plug gasket.
17. Pull up A/T assembly harness connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
18. Install snap ring to A/T assembly harness connector.
19. Connect A/T assembly harness connector.
20. Connect heated oxygen sensor 2 harness connector.
21. Pour ATF into A/T assembly. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Changing A/T
Fluid" .
22. Connect the battery cable to the negative terminal.

iii. Tighten oil pan mounting bolts to the specified torque in numeri-
cal order shown in the figure after temporarily tightening them.
Tighten oil pan mounting bolts to the specified torque. Refer to
AT- 2 3 6 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse oil pan mounting bolts.
b. VK45DE models
i. Install oil pan gasket to oil pan.
CAUTION:

Do not reuse oil pan gasket.

Install it in the direction to align hole positions.

Complete remove all moisture, oil and old gasket, etc. from oil pan gasket mounting surface.
ii. Install oil pan (3) (with oil pan gasket), clips (1) and brackets (2)
to transmission case.

CAUTION:

Install it so that drain plug comes to the position as
shown in the figure.

1. Drain ATF through drain plug.
2. Remove exhaust front tube and center muffler with power tool. Refer to EX-5, "
Removal and Installation" .
3. Remove rear propeller shaft. Refer to PR-8, "
Removal and Installation" .
4. Remove control rod. Refer to AT- 2 2 6 , "
Control Rod Removal and Installation" .
5. Support A/T assembly with a transmission jack.
CAUTION:
When setting transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug.
6. Remove rear engine mounting member with power tool. Refer to AT- 2 7 4 , "
Removal and Installation (2WD
Models)" .
7. Remove engine mounting insulator (rear). Refer to AT- 2 7 4 , "
Removal and Installation (2WD Models)" .
1. Rear oil seal 2. Rear extension 3. Parking actuator support

8. Remove tightening bolts for rear extension assembly and trans-
mission case.
9. Tap rear extension assembly with a soft hammer.
10. Remove rear extension assembly from transmission case. (With
needle bearing.)
11. Remove bearing race from output shaft.
12. Remove output shaft from transmission case by rotating left/
right.
