INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of a
Yamaha YZ series. This model is the culmina-
tion of Yamaha’s vast experience in the pro-
duction of pacesetting racing machines. It
represents the highest grade of craftsmanship
and reliability that have made Yamaha a
leader.
This manual explains operation, inspection,
basic maintenance and tuning of your
machine. If you have any questions about this
manual or your machine, please contact your
Yamaha dealer.
NOTE:
Yamaha continually seeks advancements in
product design and quality. Therefore, while
this manual contains the most current product
information available at the time of printing,
there may be minor discrepancies between

VORWORT
Herzlich willkommen im Kreis der
Yamaha-Fahrer. Sie besitzen nun
eine YZ, die mit jahrzehntelanger Er-
fahrung sowie neuester Yamaha-
Technologie entwickelt und gebaut
wurde. Daraus resultiert ein hohes
Maß an Qualität und die sprichwörtli-
che Yamaha-Zuverlässigkeit.
In dieser Anleitung erfahren Sie, wie
Sie Ihr Motorrad am besten bedie-
nen, inspizieren, warten und abstim-
men. Sollten Sie darüber hinaus
noch weitere Fragen haben, wenden
Sie sich an den nächsten Yamaha-
Händler Ihres Vertrauens.
HINWEIS:
Die Angaben dieser Anleitung befin-
den sich zum Zeitpunkt der Druckle-
gung auf dem neuesten Stand.
Aufgrund der kontinuierlichen Bemü-
hungen von Yamaha um technischen
Fortschritt und Qualitätssteigerung
können einige Angaben jedoch für
Ihr Modell nicht mehr zutreffen. Rich-

Yamaha séries YZ. Ce modèle est
l’aboutissement de la vaste expérience
de Yamaha dans la production de machi-
nes de course. Il représente l’échelon le
plus élevé de la dextérité manuelle et de
la fiabilité qui ont fait de Yamaha un lea-
der.
Ce manuel explique le fonctionnement,
l’inspection, l’entretien de base et la
mise au point de votre machine. Si vous

FOR COMPETITION USE, ONLY ON A
CLOSED COURSE. It is illegal for this
machine to be operated on any public street,
road, or highway. Off-road use on public lands
may also be illegal. Please check local regula-
tions before riding.
1. THIS MACHINE IS TO BE OPERATED
BY AN EXPERIENCED RIDER ONLY.
Do not attempt to operate this
machine at maximum power until you
are totally familiar with its character-
istics.
2. THIS MACHINE IS DESIGNED TO BE
RIDDEN BY THE OPERATOR ONLY.
Do not carry passengers on this
machine.
3. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE
APPAREL.
When operating this machine, always
wear an approved helmet with gog-
gles or a face shield. Also wear heavy
boots, gloves, and protective cloth-
ing. Always wear proper fitting cloth-
ing that will not be caught in any of
the moving parts or controls of the
machine.
4. ALWAYS MAINTAIN YOUR MACHINE
IN PROPER WORKING ORDER.
For safety and reliability, the machine
must be properly maintained. Always
perform the pre-operation checks
indicated in this manual. Correcting a
mechanical problem before you ride
may prevent an accident.
5. GASOLINE IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE.
Always turn off the engine while refu-
eling. Take care to not spill any gaso-
line on the engine or exhaust system.
Never refuel in the vicinity of an open
flame, or while smoking.

ZUR BEACHTUNG
Dieses Motorrad ist ausschließlich
für den Einsatz im Gelände-Renn-
sport auf geschlossenen Kursen
bestimmt. Die Benutzung dieses
Fahrzeugs auf öffentlichen Straßen
verstößt gegen die Straßenverkehrs-
ordnung. Aber auch Fahrten auf
öffentlichem Gelände können wal-
tende Verkehrsbestimmungen verlet-
zen. Erkundigen Sie sich deshalb vor
der Fahrt bei der zuständigen Ver-
kehrsbehörde.
1. Die Benutzung dieses
Motorrads setzt einegewisse Erfahrung voraus.
Fahren Sie diese Maschine
nicht voll aus, bevor Sie
sich mit allen ihren Eigen-
schaften gründlich vertraut
gemacht haben.
2. Dieses Motorrad ist aus-
schließlich für Solofahrten
bestimmt.Führen Sie niemals einen
Sozius auf dieser Maschine
mit.
3. Geeignete Schutzkleidung
ist obligatorisch.
Fahren Sie stets mit ange-
messener Schutzkleidung,
robusten Stiefeln, speziellen
Motorrad-Handschuhen,
einem geprüften, perfekt sit-
zenden Helm und ausrei-
chendem Augenschutz.
Achten Sie darauf, dass die
Kleidung eng anliegt und
nicht mit beweglichen Tei-
len oder Bedienungselemen-
ten der Maschine in
Berührung kommt.
4. Regelmäßige Pflege und
Wartung sind unerlässlich.
Nur vorschriftsmäßige War-
tung, regelmäßige Schmie-
rung und korrekte
Einstellung können opti-
male Leistung und Sicher-
heit gewährleisten.
Um Unfälle zu vermeiden,
stets die in dieser Anlei-
tung aufgeführte “Routine-
kontrolle vor Fahrtbeginn”
durchführen.
5. Benzin ist äußerst entzünd-
bar und u. U. explosiv.
Stellen Sie vor dem Tanken
immer den Motor ab und
achten Sie darauf, dass
kein Benzin auf den Motor
oder die Auspuffanlage ver-
schüttet wird. Während des
Tankens offene Flammen
und Funken fern halten und
keinesfalls rauchen.

machine, toujours porter un
casque homologué avec des
lunettes ou un protège-visage.
Porter également de grosses
bottes, des gants et des vête-
ments de protection. Toujours
porter des vêtements de taille
correcte qui ne seront pas pris
dans une des pièces ou com-
mandes mobiles de la machine.
4. TOUJOURS GARDER VOTRE
MACHINE EN BON ETAT DE
MARCHE.
La machine doit être correcte-
ment entretenue pour des ques-
tions de sécurité et de fiabilité.
Toujours effectuer les opérations
précédant l’utilisation indiquées
dans ce manuel.
La correction d’un problème
mécanique avant la conduite peut
empêcher un éventuel accident.
5. L’ESSENCE EST HAUTE-
MENT INFLAMMABLE.
Toujours arrêter le moteur en
faisant le plein. Faire attention
à ne pas verser d’essence sur le
moteur ou le pot d’échappe-
ment. Ne jamais faire le plein
au voisinage d’une flamme une
ou en fumant.

sempre indumenti aderenti in
modo tale che non possano
restare intrappolati nelle parti
in movimento o nei comandi
del veicolo.
4. MANTENERE SEMPRE IL
VEICOLO IN BUONE CON-
DIZIONI OPERATIVE.
Per la sicurezza e l’affidabilità,
il veicolo va manutenuto cor-
rettamente. Eseguire sempre i
controlli preliminari indicati
in questo manuale. Correggere
ogni eventuale problema mec-
canico prima di mettersi alla
guida onde evitare incidenti.
5. LA BENZINA È ALTA-
MENTE INFIAMMABILE.
Spegnere sempre il motore
durante il rifornimento. Fare
attenzione a non far cadere ben-
zina sul motore o sul sistema di
scarico. Non effettuare il riforni-
mento in prossimità di fiamme
vive o mentre si fuma.

6. GASOLINE CAN CAUSE INJURY.
If you should swallow some gasoline,
inhale excess gasoline vapors, or
allow any gasoline to get into your
eyes, contact a doctor immediately. If
any gasoline spills onto your skin or
clothing, immediately wash skin
areas with soap and water, and
change your clothes.
7. ONLY OPERATE THE MACHINE IN AN
AREA WITH ADEQUATE VENTILA-
TION.
Never start the engine or let it run for
any length of time in an enclosed
area. Exhaust fumes are poisonous.
These fumes contain carbon monox-
ide, which by itself is odorless and
colorless. Carbon monoxide is a dan-
gerous gas which can cause uncon-
sciousness or can be lethal.
8. PARK THE MACHINE CAREFULLY;
TURN OFF THE ENGINE.
Always turn off the engine if you are
going to leave the machine. Do not
park the machine on a slope or soft
ground as it may fall over.
9. THE ENGINE, EXHAUST PIPE, MUF-
FLER, AND OIL TANK WILL BE VERY
HOT AFTER THE ENGINE HAS BEEN
RUN.
Be careful not to touch them or to
allow any clothing item to contact
them during inspection or repair.
10. PROPERLY SECURE THE MACHINE
BEFORE TRANSPORTING IT.
When transporting the machine in
another vehicle, always be sure it is
properly secured and in an upright
position and that the fuel cock is in
the “OFF” position. Otherwise, fuel
may leak out of the carburetor or fuel
tank.
