HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.
Service Publication Office
As sections with * include SRS components;
special precautions are required when servicing.
This manual is divided into multiple sections. The first page of
each section is marked with a black tab that lines up with its
corresponding thumb index tab on this page and the back cover.
You can quickly find the first page of each section without
looking through a full table of contents. The symbols printed at
the top corner of each page can also be used as a quick
reference system.
Each section includes: 1. A table of contents, or an exploded view index showing: Parts disassembly sequence.
Bolt torques and thread sizes.
Page references to descriptions in text.
2. Disassembly/assembly procedures and tools.
3. Inspection.
4. Testing/troubleshooting.
5. Repair.
6. Adjustments.
Your safety, and the safety of others, is very important. To help
you make informed decisions, we have provided safety
messages, and other safety information throughout this manual.
Of course, it is not practical or possible to warn you about all the
hazards associated with servicing this vehicle. You must use
your own good judgment.
You will find important safety information in a variety of forms
including: on the vehicle.

API CERTIFICATION SEAL
For details of the lubrication points and the type of lubricants to be applied, refer to the illustrated index and the various work procedures (such
as Assembly/Reassembly, Replacement, Overhaul, Installation, etc.) contained in each section.
A Engine Acura Motor Oil:
K20Z2: P/N CA66808 (5W-20)
K20Z3: P/N CA66807 (5W-30)
Look for the API certification seal on the oil container. Make sure it says ‘‘For
Gasoline Engines.’’ SAE viscosity: See chart.
B Manual transmission Acura Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF): P/N 08798-9033C Always use Acura MTF. Using motor oil can cause stiffer shifting because it
does not contain the proper additives.
Automatic transmission Acura Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF-Z1): P/N CA66704 Always use Acura ATF-Z1. Using a non-Acura ATF can affect shift quality.
C
D Brake system (including VSA lines)
Clutch system (manual transmission) Honda DOT 3 Brake Fluid: P/N 08798-9008
Always use Honda DOT 3 Brake Fluid. Using a non-Honda brake fluid can
cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.

The programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) system is a
sequential multiport fuel injection system.
When the ECM/PCM receives a demand for cooling
from the A/C system, it delays the compressor from
being energized, and enriches the mixture to assure
smooth transition to the A/C mode.
The A/F sensor operates over a wide air/fuel range. The
A/F sensor is installed upstream of the TWC, and sends
signals to the ECM/PCM which varies the duration of
fuel injection accordingly.
The BARO sensor is inside the ECM/PCM. It converts
atmospheric pressure into a voltage signal that
modifies the basic duration of the fuel injection
discharge.
CMP sensor B detects the position of the No. 1 cylinder
as a reference for sequential fuel injection to each
cylinder. The CKP sensor detects crankshaft speed and is used by
the ECM/PCM to determine the ignition timing, timing
for the fuel injection of each cylinder, and engine
misfire detection.
ECT sensors 1 and 2 are temperature dependent
resistors (thermistors). The resistance decreases as the
engine coolant temperature increases.
The ECM/PCM contains the memory for basic ignition
timing at various engine speeds and manifold absolute
pressures. It also adjusts the timing according to engine
coolant temperature and intake air temperature.
The ECM/PCM contains the memory for basic discharge
duration at various engine speeds and manifold
pressures. The basic discharge duration, after being
read out from the memory, is further modified by
signals sent from various sensors to obtain the final
discharge duration.
By monitoring long term fuel trim, the ECM/PCM
detects long term malfunctions in the fuel system and
sets diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) if needed.

DTC Troubleshooting (cont’d) A/C Signal Circuit Troubleshooting
37. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Check for poor connections or loose
terminals at the A/C pressure sensor and the ECM/
PCM. If the ECM/PCM was updated, substitute a
known-good ECM/PCM (see page 11-7), then go to
step 34. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, go to step
1.
If the ECM/PCM was updated, troubleshooting
is complete. If the ECM/PCM was substituted,
replace the original ECM/PCM (see page 11-228). If
any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated,
go to the indicated DTC’s troubleshooting. 1. Start the engine, and let it idle.
2. Turn the blower switch on.
3. Turn the A/C switch on.
4. Check the A/C CLUTCH in the DATA LIST with the
HDS.
Go to step 5.
Do the A/C system test (see page 21-99).
5. Check the A/C system.
The air conditioning system circuit is OK.
Go to step 6.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
8. Activate the A/C CLUTCH in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
Do the A/C system test (see page 21-99).
Go to step 9.
9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
10. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
11. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (44P).
12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
