16CHECKING THE BRAKE FLUID
I100A02P-GAT Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. The brake fluid level must be be- tween the "MAX" and "MIN" marks on the reservoir. The fluid level falls slightly with wear of the brake pads but it does not indicate any abnormality. If the brake fluid level falls markedly in a short time, it indicates leaks from the brake system. In such a case, have your vehicle checked by an au- thorized HYUNDAI dealer. Use SAE J1703 (or DOT3 or DOT 4) or equivalent type brake fluid.
CAUTION:
Be sure to install the air condi- tioner filter in the direction of thearrow sign. Otherwise, it may cause noise or deterioration.

On a vehicle with the brake fluid
warning lamp, the brake fluid level is monitored by a float. When the brake fluid level falls to below the "MIN" mark, the brake fluid warning lamplights up.
WARNING:
o Use only the specified brake fluid. Also, the additives in dif-ferent brands may result in a chemical reaction when mixed together, so avoid mixing differ-ent brands if possible.
o Use extreme caution in filling
the brake fluid because it is toxicand corrosive, and it can harm your eyes and damage painted surface. If the fluid gets in youreyes, flush your eyes with clean water.
CHECKING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
I120A02P-GAT (If installed) Transmission fluid in the automatic transmission should be changed at those intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in Sec-tion 6. NOTE: Automatic transmission fluid is a red color. As driving distance in- creases, the fluid color turns dark-ish red gradually. It is a normal condition and you should not judge the need to replace basedupon the changing color. You must replace the automatictransmission fluid in accordance with intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in sec-tion 6.CHECKING THE CLUTCH FLUID
I110A01P-GAT (If installed) In the case of vehicles with the hy- draulic operating clutch, the reservoir for the clutch fluid also serves as the reservoir for the brake fluid. See theparagraph on the brake fluid.

1. Open the hood, being careful to
keep hands, long hair and clothing clear of any moving parts.
2. Remove the transmission dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert the dipstickas far as it will go, then remove it again. Now check the fluid level on the dipstick. It should be in the"HOT" range on the dipstick.
3. If the transmission fluid level is
low, use a funnel to add transmis-sion fluid through the dipstick tube until the level reaches the "HOT" range. Do not overfill, otherwisethe transmission could be dam- aged. Full mark Good

To Check the transmission Fluid Level
Park the vehicle on level ground with
the parking brake engaged. When the transmission fluid level is checked, the transmission fluid should be atnormal operating temperature and the engine idling.
While the engine is idling, apply the
brakes and move the gear selector lever from "P" to each of its otherpositions-"R", "N", "D", "2", "L"-and then return to "N" or "P" with the engine still idling: HSR3073

transmission will be found on page 9-5.
WARNING:
The transmission fluid level should
be checked when the engine is atnormal operating temperature. Thismeans that the engine, radiator, exhaust system etc., are very hot. Exercise great care not to burnyourself during this procedure.

!WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by
engine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even whenthe engine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan, sothat you are not injured by a rotat- ing fan blade. As the engine cool- ant temperature decreases, the fanwill automatically shut off. This is a normal condition.
FILLING THE WASHER RESERVOIR
I130A01P-GAT The washer fluid reservoir supplies
fluid to the windshield washer sys- tem.
A good quality washer fluid should be
used to fill the washer reservoir. Thefluid level should be checked more frequently during bad weather or whenever the washer system is inmore frequent use.
!WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine.High pressure pump, rail, injec- tors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even af-ter the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it touch the body.People using pacemakers should not move than 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within theengine room while engine is run- ning, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produceconsiderable magnetic fields. WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES
CAUTION:
o Do not operate the wipers on dry glass. This can result in more rapid wear of the wiper blades and may scratch the glass.
o Keep the blade rubber out of contact with petroleum productssuch as engine oil, gasoline, etc.
G080A02A-AAT The wiper blades should be carefully
inspected from time to time and cleaned to remove accumulations ofroad film or other debris. To clean the wiper blades and arms, use a clean sponge or cloth with a mild soap ordetergent and water. If the wipers continue to streak or smear the glass, replace them with genuine Hyundaireplacement parts or their equivalent. HEF119
CAUTION:
o Radiator antifreeze (engine cool- ant) should not be used in thewasher system because it will damage the car’s finish.
o The washer lever should not be pulled and the washer should not be operated if the washerreservoir is empty. This can dam- age the washer fluid pump.

45.1 mm (1.78 in.)
You need a helper to check the brake pedal clearance. With the engine run- ning, have your helper press down on the brake pedal several times andthen hold it down with a force of about 490N (50 kg, 110 lbs). The brake pedal clearance is the distance fromthe top surface of the brake pedal to the asphalt sheeting under the floor mat. If the brake pedal clearance isnot within the limits specified in the illustration, have it inspected by your Hyundai dealer and adjusted or re-paired if necessary.

TIRE
I150A02P-GAT Tire condition Check the tires for cuts, cracks and other damage. Replace the tires if there are deep cuts or cracks. Also check each tire for pieces of metal orpebbles. The use of worn tires can be verydangerous because of the greater chance of skidding or hydroplaning. The tread depth of the tires mustexceed 1.6 mm (0.06 in.) in order for the tires to meet the minimum re- quirement for use. If there are belt-line wear indicators on the tires, they will appear in six places on the surface of the tirethereby indicating that the tire no 1.6 mm (0.06 in.)

Drive belts should be checked peri-
odically for proper tension and ad-justed if necessary. At the same time, belts should be examined for cracks, wear, fraying or other evidence ofdeterioration and replaced if neces- sary.
Belt routing should also be checked
to be sure there is no interferencebetween the belts and other parts of the engine. After a belt is replaced, the new belt should be adjusted again after two or three weeks to eliminate slack resulting from initial stretchingafter use.
NOTE: The drive belt tension for diesel
engine (2.5 CRDi only) is adjusted automatically.
