This system, installed in the rear bumper, detects any obstacle (person,
vehicle, tree, barrier, etc) behind the vehicle. Activation With the engine running, the system is activated when reverse gear is engaged; a bleep indicates that it is active. The proximity information is given by an audible signal, consisting of bleeps which become faster as the vehicle approaches the obstacle. When the distance between the rear of vehicle and the obstacle is less than thirty centimetres, the audible signal becomes continuous. In neutral, the system becomes inactive again.

CRUISE CONTROL The cruise control makes it possi- ble to maintain a constant vehiclespeed, programmed by the dri-
ver, irrespective of the profile ofthe road and without any action
on the accelerator or the brake ped-als. In order for the vehicle speed to be memorised, it must be greaterthan 25 mph (40 km/h) (manualgearbox) or 37 mph (60 km/h)(automatic gearbox), with at least4th gear engaged (2nd gear forthe automatic gearbox).Activation
Place knob 1in the ONposition.
A speed can now be memorised. Place knob 1in the OFFposition to deactivate the system.

memorised and will be maintained automatically.Note: it is possible to accelerate temporarily without deactivating the
cruise control. Deactivating the memorised speed If you wish to deactivate the memorised speed: press button 4or the brake or clutch pedal.

PEUGEOT SERVICING
18
PEUGEOT SERVICING
Your vehicle benefits from extended service intervals.
Ð For 2 litre 180 bhp engine vehicles: every 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or every two years.
Ð For 1.6 litre and 2 litre engine vehicles: every 20,000 miles (30,000 km) or every two years.
Your service indicator indicates when the services are due; the point at which a service is due is calculated from the last ind i-
cator reset (see corresponding section). The point at which a service is due is determined by two parameters:
Ð the distance travelled,
Ð the time elapsed since the last service. Note: the distance remaining may be weighted by the time factor, in accordance with the user's driving habits.
The extension of the service intervals means that the engine oil level must be checked regularly: topping up of the oil between oil changes is normal. It is for this reason that the PEUGEOT network invites you to an intermediate visit between each regular Service. The service indicator does not show when this service is due. It must be carried out every 10,000 miles (15,000 km) maximum for the 1.6 litre and 2 litre engines and every 6,000 miles (10,000 km) maximum for the 2 litre 180 bhpengines.
A PEUGEOT dealer will carry out a quick check, and will top up the levels if necessary (oil, coolant, screen-wash up to 2 litres). If the oil level is too low there is a risk of serious damage to the engine: check the engine oil level at least every 2,000 to 3,000 miles (3,000 to 5,000 km), depending on the conditions of use. This extended servicing has been made possible by modifications to our vehicles and to the lubricants:
THUS IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ONLY USE LUBRICANTS WHICH ARE SUITED TO YOUR ENGINE AND RECOMMENDED
BY THE MANUFACTURER (see "Lubricants" pages). * Whichever comes first.

PEUGEOT SERVICING19
SPECIAL FEATURES Some of your vehicle's vital components have specific servicing schedules. The brake fluid must be replaced every every 40,000 miles (60,000 km) or every 2 years.
The passenger compartment filter must be checked at each visitto the PEUGEOT dealer (intermediate visits and regu-
lar services). The timing belt: contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Arduous conditions of use If the vehicle is used under certain particularly arduous conditions: Ð Continuous door-to-door use.
Ð Town use.
Ð Repeated short journeys, with the engine cold in low temperatures.
Or prolonged stay under the following conditions: Ð Countries with temperatures often above +30 ¡C.
Ð Countries with temperatures often below minus 15 ¡C.
Ð Countries with a dusty atmosphere.
Ð Countries whose lubricants or fuels do not conform to our recommendations.
It is necessary to follow an "Arduous conditions" service schedule which includes: Ð shorter service intervals:¥ Every 10,000 miles (15,000 km) or every year for the 2 litre 180 bhp engine vehicles. ¥ Every 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or every year for the 1.6 litre and 2 litre engine vehicles.
Ð special operations: ¥ Replacement of the air filter every 10,000 miles (15,000 km) for the 2 litre 180 bhp engine vehicles.
