6. Fuel level warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on when the
fuel level drops below approximately
3.5 L. When this occurs, turn the fuel
cock lever to the “RES” position and re-
fuel as soon as possible.
EAU01773
7. Cruise control indicator lights
See page 3-6 for an explanation of
these indicator lights.
EAU00061
8. Neutral indicator light “ ”
This indicator light comes on when the
transmission is in the neutral position.
EAU01707
9. Coolant temperature warning
light “ ”
This warning light comes on when the
engine overheats. When this occurs,
stop the engine immediately and allow
the engine to cool.
The electrical circuit of the warning light
can be checked according to the fol-
lowing procedure.
1. Set the engine stop switch to “ ”
and turn the key to “ON”.
2. Shift the transmission into the neu-
tral position or pull the clutch lever.
3. Push the start switch. If the warn-
ing light does not come on while
pushing the start switch, have a
Yamaha dealer check the electri-
cal circuit.

CAUTION:@ Do not operate the engine if it is
overheated. @

Final gear oil The final gear case must be checked
for oil leakage before each ride. If any
leakage is found, have a Yamaha deal-
er check and repair the motorcycle. In
addition, have a Yamaha dealer
change the final gear oil at the intervals
specified in the periodic maintenance
and lubrication chart.
EAU03974
Checking the coolant level The coolant level should be checked as
follows before each ride. In addition,
the coolant must be changed at the in-
tervals specified in the periodic mainte-
nance and lubrication chart.
1. Place the motorcycle on a level
surface and hold it in an upright
position.
2. Remove panel A. (See page 7-9
for panel removal and installation
procedures.)NOTE:_ l
The coolant level must be checked
on a cold engine since the level
varies with engine temperature.
l
Make sure that the motorcycle is
positioned straight up when
checking the coolant level. A slight
tilt to the side can result in a false
reading.
_
3. Check the coolant level in the
coolant reservoir.NOTE:_ The coolant should be between the
minimum and maximum level marks. _

7 4. If the coolant is at or below the
minimum level mark, remove the
rider seat (See page 3-15 for rider
seat removal and installation pro-
cedures.), open the reservoir cap,
add coolant to the maximum level
mark, and then close the reservoir
cap and install the rider seat.
EC000080
CAUTION:_ l
If coolant is not available, use
distilled water or soft tap water
instead. Do not use hard water
or salt water since it is harmful
to the engine.
l
If water has been used instead
of coolant, replace it with cool-
ant as soon as possible, other-
wise the engine may not be
sufficiently cooled and the cool-
ing system will not be protected
against frost and corrosion.
l
If water has been added to the
coolant, have a Yamaha dealer
check the antifreeze content of
the coolant as soon as possible,
otherwise the effectiveness of
the coolant will be reduced.

WARNING
_ Never attempt to remove the radia-
tor cap when the engine is hot. _5. Install the panel.
NOTE:_ l
The radiator fan is automatically
switched on or off according to the
coolant temperature in the radia-
tor.
l
If the engine overheats, see page
7-39 for further instructions.
