Coolant temperature gauge Under normal operating conditions, the gauge may indicate a temperature of up to 100¡C. Under severe operating conditions, such as in high temperatures, the needle may approach the red zones.
If the needle enters the red zone and the STOP warning lamp flashes, stop
immediately, switch off ignition, the cooling fan may continue to operate for
a certain time , let the engine cool down and take the precautions indicated in
chapter ÒMAINTENANCEÓ - Levels and Checks. This over-heating may be due to a number of causes, contact the nearest
approved dealer. Fuel gauge When the low level warning lamp comes on continuously with the vehicle on level ground, there remain approximately 7 litres of fuel in the tank. Reservoir capacity (in litres) :
Petrol : 55
Diesel : 60

Minimum coolant fluid level warning lamp If the warning lamp lights
up, it is imperative to stop the vehicle. Check the level and takethe precautions detailed in chapter
ÒLEVELS AND CHECKSÓ).
Battery charge warninglamp Should not be on when the engine is running. If it
comes permanently on, contact
your nearest approved Dealer.
Imperative stopwarning lamp Lights up at the same time as ano-
ther visual warning or if the maxi-mum permissible coolant fluid tem-perature is reached.
Engine oil pressurewarning lamp If it lights up while you are
driving, stop the engine, check the
level, (See ÒLEVELS ANDCHECKSÓ). If it remains lit despite the level being correct, contact your nearest
approved Dealer. Warning lamp for hand-brake and for brakefluid level Indicates that the brake
is applied or incorrectly released. Also that the brake fluid level is
insufficient. See ÒBRAKESÓ,
ÒLEVELS AND CHECKSÓ . The warning lamp may also indica- te a malfunction of the electronicbraking distribution.
Engine operation war-ning lamp (autodiagno-sis)
If it flashes or lights up, this indi-cates a malfunctioning of either theinjection, ignition or emissioncontrol systems (depending oncountry). Quickly consult your nearest
approved dealer.
AIRBAG operation war-ning lamp
See ÒTHE AIRBAG SYSTEMÓ. Doors open warninglamp Lights up when swit- ching on ignition.
Goes out when all the doors are

CHECKSÓ. Topping up engine oil
See ÒCAPACITYÓ. Finish by checking the oil level using the manual dipstick.
Battery
See ÒBATTERYÓ. Air filter Follow the instructions in the Maintenance Guide.
Engine oil dipstick Check with the vehicle on a level surface and at leastten minutes after having
switched off the engine. Never exceed the maxi- mum level.
Check the level regularly.Maxi Mini
Caution
Take care when carrying out checks under the bonnet when theengine is hot, even if the engine is
switched off, as the cooling fancan start up at any time. The engine oil should be checked regularly between the servicevisits recommended by the manu-
facturer, as well as before longjourneys.

Topping up enginecoolant
See ÒLEVELS AND CHECKSÓ. Note : If it is necessary to top up
the coolant frequently this indi- cates a fault which should bechecked as soon as possible.V- 1LEVELS

Topping up engine coolant Engine cold : The coolant level should be between the MINI and MAXI marks.
Engine warm : Wait for 15 minutes, the coolant temperature must be below 100¡C. Protect your
hands with a cloth, and slowly unscrew the cap as far as the safety catch to release the pressure.
Level :
Top up.
If more than 1 litre of coolant is required, have the cooling circuit checked by an approved dealer. Ensure that the cap is properly locked in position on the 2nd notch.
If it is necessary to add fluid frequently, this indicates a fault which should be checked as soon as possible.

82V- 2LEVELS AND CHECKS*
This is a delicate operation which must be performed by an approved dealer.

Radiator - engine coolant
The coolant level should only be checked when the engine is cold. The level must always be between the MINI and MAXI marks on the vertical part ofthe radiator (water tank, cap side) for petrol engines, or in the reservoir ope-ning for diesel engines. The coolant contains an anti-freeze which not only enables it to withstand low temperatures (original protection to minus 37¡C) but also makes it anti-corrosive and resistant to high temperatures.

The oils which appear in the sketch opposite are suitable for most pur-poses. The sketch opposite states the opti- mum range of viscosity depending onthe temperatures at which the oils areto be used. It is also possible to usesynthetic oils of Ôsuperior qualityÕ. In the absence of semi-synthetic or
synthetic oils, oils of API SH/SJ qual-ity (for petrol engines), or CD/CF (fordiesel engines) may be used by fol-
lowing the ÔArduous ConditionsÕ main-tenance schedule which specifiesshorter intervals. Do not hesitate to ask for advice from a Peugeot dealer to maintain drivingpleasure and to minimise the mainte-nance cost of your vehicle. For coun-tries outside Europe, please contact a
