fitting assembly out of the plastic shield. Use care not to damage
fill and vent fitting assembly. Disconnect fuel line from fuel
filter/fuel pressure regulator on fuel pump module using proper
procedure for fuel line disconnect fitting. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT
FITTINGS. Fuel pump module is located on top of fuel tank. See Fig. 30
.
11) Disconnect electrical connector at fuel pump module.
Disconnect vapor hoses from rollover valves on top of fuel tank. See
Fig. 30 . Lower fuel tank from vehicle. Use care not to damage fill and
vent hose fitting assembly.
Installation
1) To install, reverse removal procedure. Install fuel lines
on fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator on fuel pump module using
proper procedure. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS.
2) Ensure retaining tabs on fill and vent hose fitting
assembly fully engage the plastic shield. Tighten fuel tank strap
retaining nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. Start
engine and check for fuel leaks.
FUEL RAIL & INJECTORS
Removal (Dakota 2.5L)
1) Release fuel pressure from fuel system. See FUEL SYSTEM
PRESSURE RELEASE. Ensure negative battery cable is disconnected.
2) Disconnect air inlet duct at throttle body for access to
fuel rail. Disconnect vent line from fuel damper at end of fuel rail
(if equipped).
3) Note electrical connector location on injectors for
installation reference. Disconnect electrical connectors at injectors.
Disconnect fuel line from fuel rail. See FUEL LINE AT FUEL RAIL.
Disconnect control cables at throttle body. Remove control cable
mounting bracket from intake manifold for access to fuel rail.
4) Remove fuel rail bolts. Ensure area around injectors and
intake manifold is clean. Using rocking motion, remove fuel rail with
injectors from intake manifold.
5) If removing injector from fuel rail, remove retaining clip
from fuel rail and injector. Retaining clip is located at top of
injector and fuel rail. Remove injector with "O" ring from fuel rail.
Installation
1) If installing injector on fuel rail, install NEW "O" ring
on injector. Coat "O" ring on injector with engine oil. Install
injector on fuel rail. Install retaining clip on injector and fuel
rail.
2) To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure
using NEW "O" ring at bottom of each injector. Coat "O" ring on
injector with engine oil before installing injectors and fuel rail.
3) Tighten fuel rail bolts to specification. See TORQUE
SPECIFICATIONS. Install fuel line on fuel rail using proper procedure.
See FUEL LINE AT FUEL RAIL. Start engine and check for leaks.
Removal (Dakota 3.9L, 5.2L & 5.9L, Durango, Ram Pickup 3.9L,
5.2L & 5.9L, Ram Van & Ram Wagon)
1) Release fuel pressure from fuel system. See FUEL SYSTEM
PRESSURE RELEASE. Ensure negative battery cable is disconnected.
2) On Ram Van and Ram Wagon, remove engine cover. On all
models, remove air cleaner. Remove throttle body from intake manifold.
See THROTTLE BODY. On A/C equipped models, remove A/C compressor-to-
intake manifold support brace at rear of A/C compressor.
3) On all models, note electrical connector location on
injectors for installation reference. Disconnect electrical connectors
at injectors. Disconnect any necessary wiring electrical connectors
Removal (Dakota & Durango)
1) EVAP leak detection pump and EVAP leak detection pump
filter must be replaced as an assembly. EVAP leak detection pump is
located at driver's side of engine compartment, just below battery
tray. See Fig. 40. EVAP leak detection pump filter is attached to
outside of battery tray, just in front of power distribution center.
See Fig. 40 .
2) Remove battery. Disconnect hose from bottom of EVAP leak
detection pump filter that goes to EVAP leak detection pump. Remove
retaining clip and disconnect EVAP leak detection pump filter from
battery tray.
3) Disconnect wiring harness for battery temperature sensor
from bottom of battery tray. Power distribution center must be removed
for access to EVAP leak detection pump.
4) Remove power distribution center-to-fender retaining screw
at rear of power distribution center. Unsnap power distribution center
from battery tray. Carefully position power distribution center aside.
5) Remove battery tray. Disconnect electrical connector and
vacuum hoses at EVAP leak detection pump. Use care not to damage
vacuum hoses during removal. Remove retaining bolts and EVAP leak
detection pump.
NOTE: Vacuum hoses and hose to EVAP leak detection pump filter must
be properly installed on EVAP leak detection pump and all
hoses must be in good condition. If hoses are not properly
installed or are damaged, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
will be set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Installation
1) Install EVAP leak detection pump on battery tray. Tighten
retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
2) To install remaining components, reverse removal
procedure. Ensure vacuum hoses and hose to EVAP leak detection pump
filter are in good condition and properly installed on EVAP leak
detection pump.

CHRY - Power Seats
Ram Pickup, Ram Van & Ram Wagon
DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Driver's power seat can be adjusted in 6 different
directions: up, down, forward, back, tilt forward, or tilt rearward.
The power seat system consists of a 6-way switch, motor assembly, seat
adjuster, motor cable, housing and wiring harness.
The power seat system receives battery power through circuit
breaker and a fuse in the Power Distribution Center (PDC). Battery
voltage is available to power seat system at all times. Three
permanent magnet reversible motors are coupled through cables to worm
gear box assemblies located in the seat tracks, providing the various
seat movements.
On Ram Pickup with extended cab (club cab and quad cab),
driver's seat also includes power operated lumbar support. Lumbar
support can be inflated or deflated as needed, using additional
switch. On seats with lumbar support, seat back remains at same
height, while seat cushion raises and lowers. On seats without lumbar
support, entire seat raises and lowers. On all seats, entire seat
moves forward and backward.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
NOTE: Before any testing is attempted, the battery should be fully
charged and all connections and terminals cleaned and
tightened to ensure proper continuity and chassis grounds.
POWER SEAT INOPERATIVE
With dome light on, apply power seat switch in direction of
failure. If dome light dims, power seat may be jamming. Check for
binding or obstructions. If dome light does not dim, check individual
components. See COMPONENT TESTS.
COMPONENT TESTS
HARNESS VOLTAGE TEST
NOTE: This test will determine whether or not voltage is continuous
through body harness to power seat switch.
1) Remove power seat switch from mounting position and
disconnect switch from wiring harness. See POWER SEAT SWITCH under
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
2) Connect test light lead to ground terminal (Black wire on
Ram Van and Ram Wagon; Black/Orange wire on Ram Pickup) at power seat
switch harness connector. Using test light, probe power supply wire
(Red/Light Blue wire) at power seat switch harness connector.
3) If test light comes on, power and ground circuits to power
seat switch are good. If test light does not come on, check ground
circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repair as necessary. If ground circuit
is okay, check power supply. See CIRCUIT BREAKER. Check ground circuit
for continuity.
CIRCUIT BREAKER
1) Circuit breaker is located in fuse block. On Ram Van and
Ram Wagon, fuse block is located under glove box door. On Ram Pickup,
fuse block is located at extreme left end of instrument panel under
protective cover. On all models, pull circuit breaker outward
slightly, ensuring circuit breaker terminals still contact terminals
in fuse block. Connect negative voltmeter lead to ground. With
positive lead, check each terminal of circuit breaker for voltage.
2) If battery voltage exists at both terminals, circuit
breaker is good. If battery voltage exists at only one terminal,
circuit breaker is defective. Replace circuit breaker. If battery
voltage does not exist at either terminal, check for open or shorted
circuit to fuse box. Repair as necessary.
MOTOR
1) Operate power seat switch to move all 3 seat motors. Seat
should move in all directions. If one or more motors operate, see
POWER SEAT SWITCH. If no motors operate, go to next step.
2) Check circuit breaker in fuse block. See CIRCUIT BREAKER.
If circuit breaker is good, go to next step. If circuit breaker is
faulty, replace circuit breaker and retest system.
3) Remove power seat switch. See POWER SEAT SWITCH under
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for battery voltage at power supply (Red
wire on Ram Van and Ram Wagon; Red/Light Blue wire on Ram Pickup). If
battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not
exist, repair open in wire.
4) Check for continuity between switch connector ground
circuit (Black wire on Ram Van and Ram Wagon; Black/Orange wire on Ram
Pickup) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If
continuity does not exist, repair open in wire.
5) Test power seat switch. See POWER SEAT SWITCH. Replace
switch as necessary and retest system. If switch tests good, check
wiring harness between switch connector and motor. Repair as
necessary. If wiring is okay, replace defective power seat
adjuster/motors assembly.
POWER SEAT SWITCH
Remove switch from mounting position. See POWER SEAT SWITCH
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity
between power seat switch terminals as indicated. See POWER SEAT
SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST (RAM PICKUP) or POWER SEAT SWITCH CONTINUITY
TEST (RAM VAN & RAM WAGON) table. See Fig. 1 or 2. If continuity does
not exist as specified, replace switch. If continuity exists as
specified, switch is okay.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory
systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist
until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See
COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION
before disconnecting battery.
SEAT ASSEMBLY
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup)
Remove 4 bolts/nuts attaching seat frame to floor pan. Remove
2 bolts holding power seat to center seat section. Disconnect power
seat wire harness connector located under seat. Remove seat from
vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten seat mounting
screws to 21 ft. lbs. (29 N.m).
Removal & Installation (Ram Van & Ram Wagon)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove seat riser rear
shield. Disconnect power seat wire harness connector located under
seat. Remove 4 nuts attaching seat frame to floor pan. The rear nuts
are accessed by lifting up the seat riser rear shield. Remove seat
from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten seat
mounting screws to 55 ft. lbs. (75 N.m).
MOTOR
NOTE: Seat motors are not serviced separately. If any segment of
power seat adjustment mechanism is faulty, replace motor,
cables and seat track assembly as a unit.
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup)
Remove 4 bolts/nuts attaching seat to adjuster and motor
assembly. Remove adjuster and motor assembly. To install, reverse
removal procedure.
NOTE: If seat is in raised position, it is possible to remove seat
and/or adjuster and motor assembly without removing seat
riser. If seat can not be raised to full height, entire seat
and riser assembly must be removed from vehicle.
Removal & Installation (Ram Van & Ram Wagon)
If seat cannot be raised to full height, remove seat. See
SEAT ASSEMBLY. Remove 4 nuts attaching seat to riser. Disconnect
wiring between seat switch and motor. Remove seat cushion frame from
adjuster and motor assembly. Remove adjuster and motor assembly from
riser. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten seat adjuster
bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 N.m).
POWER SEAT SWITCH
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup Without Lumbar Support)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 screws holding
switch and bezel to seat. Pull switch from seat far enough to access
connector, and disconnect connector. Remove 2 screws holding switch to
bezel. Remove switch from bezel. To install, reverse removal
procedure.
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup With Lumbar Support)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove recliner lever.
Remove 3 screws holding side shield to seat. Pull shield from seat far
enough to access connector, and disconnect connector. Remove 2 screws
holding switch to shield. Remove switch from shield. To install,
reverse removal procedure.
Removal & Installation (Ram Van & Ram Wagon)
Remove seat adjuster and motors assembly from seat. See
MOTOR. Remove 2 switch bezel mounting screws from inside seat cushion
frame. Disconnect switch wire connector. Remove 2 power seat switch-
to-bezel screws. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten screws
to 20 INCH lbs. (2.2 N.m).
POWER LUMBAR ADJUSTER & MOTOR
Removal & Installation
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove driver's seat back.
Disconnect wiring connector. Disconnect clips and remove power lumbar
adjuster and motor assembly. To install, reverse removal procedures.
