Align and fit inner waist seal.
8. Check that armrest tang locater and screw insert are correctly
positioned in door panel.
9. Position casing for access and connect speaker, puddle lamp
and switchpack harnesses.
10. Finally position casing locating fold over waist flange and
firmly press armrest to locate retaining tang in door panel.
11. Commencing at front , press and firmly seat casing lower
fasteners in door inserts
12. Fit and tighten armrest centre se curing screw in door insert.
13. Fit door veneer panel. Refer to 76.47.12.
14. Position door handle escutche on on casing, fit and tighten
securing screw and fit cover over screw.

Description and Operation
Body Front
The thermoplastic front bumper incorporates chromed plastic upper quarter blades and where fitted, chromed covers for the headlamp powerwash jet assemblie s. The bumper lower air intake aperture is specifically profiled to achieve optimum
cooling of the AJV8 engine. A splitter vane installed in the lowe r air intake, is chromed on Daimler and Vanden Plas vehicles
and colour-keyed on all other models. An ov oidal sidemarker lens or reflector is installed in each side of the bumper cover.
The low profile plastic radiator grill surround is colour-keyed on Sport and XJR mo dels, chromed and fluted on Daimler and
chromed plain on all other models .A Jaguar 'growler' badge is fitted in the upper central positi on of the grill surround. For
certain markets, a spring-loaded chromed Ja guar 'leaper' mascot is installed centrally on the front of the hood. Radiator
grills are chromed mesh on the XJR, dark grey vertical vanes on the Sport, and chromed ve rtical vanes on all other models.
Body Sides
For certain markets, a Jaguar 'l eaper' badge fitted in place of the direction indicator side re peater, is surface mounted in a
shallow recess on the rear of each fro nt fender. Three-piece colour-keyed body side mouldings surface mounted on the
lower section of each door and front fender align with bumper upper extremities. A brightwork inset is incorporated in the
upper edge of side mouldings on Daimler and Vanden Plas models. On Daimler models, a 'Daimler' script badge is mounted
on the upper section of the B post. A 'V8' badge is fitted in the same position on all other models.
All models have coachlines painted on th e front fenders, the doors and rear fender s. Sport and XJR models have upper and
lower coachlines 1.5mm an d 3mm wide respectively, XJ8 has a 1.5mm single upper coachline and all other models have a
single upper coachline 3mm wide.
Body Rear
The themoplastic rear bumper also inco rporates chromed plastic upper quarter blades and ovoi dal sidemarker lenses or
reflectors. The trunk lid trim is colour-keyed on Sport and XJ R models, chromed fluted on Daimler and chromed plain on all
other models.
With the exception of Daimlers, the trunk lid rear carries a 'Jaguar' badge on the LH side. Daimlers carry a script 'Daimler'
badge in the same location. On th e RH side, Jaguar models carry an 'XJ8', '3.2 Sport', '4.0 Sport', 'Sovereign 8', 'XJR', or
'Vanden Plas' badge as applic able. Daimlers carry a 'V8' badge in the same position.

1. Slacken and remove the two scre ws securing top of grill to
surround.
2. Lift grill to withdraw retainin g lugs from slots and remove
grill from vehicle.
3. Remove and discard the two ny lon screw inserts from top of
surround (adapters for su percharged models).
4. Repeat above steps to remove grill on opposite side.
1. Fit new screw inserts/adapters to top of grill surround.
2. Fit grill lower lugs into suurround slots.
3. Fit and tighten the two screws securing top of grill to surround.
4. Repeat above steps to instal l grill on opposite side.

Seating - Front Seat Backrest
Removal and Installation
Removal
1. Remove front seat for ac cess. Refer to 76.70.01.
2. Remove seat back fini sher. Refer to 76.70.09.
3. Remove front seat headrest. Refer to 76.70.14.
4. Release the five squab cover to seat frame securing strips.
5. Release the squab cover to seat frame lower securing clips.
6. Remove the four squab pad to squab suspension hog rings.
7. Sever the two ratchet straps securing squab pad to squab
suspension.

8. Disconnect the squab heater element harness multiplug.
9. Release the lower part of squab cover and pad from seat
frame.
10. Release seat headrest guides from seat frame and remove
squab cover and pad.
11. Position squab cover sides for access and remove the
eighteen squab cover to pad hog rings.
12. Remove squab pad and heater element from squab cover.
13. Remove heater element from squab pad.
1. Install heater element on squab pad.
2. Position squab pad and heater element in squab cover,
ensuring that headrest gu ides pass through pad.
3. Using the eighteen hog rings, secure squab cover to pad.
4. Pull squab cover sides over squab pad.
5. Fit but do not secure ratc het straps to squab pad.
6. Position squab cover and pad on seat frame and fully seat
headrest guides in frame.
7. Position lower part of squab co ver on seat frame and secure
ratchet straps to squab suspension.
8. Position lower edge of squab co ver to seat frame and secure
with nine retaining clips.
9. Position and fit squab cover to seat frame retaining strips.

1. WARNING: FOLLOWING DISCONNECTION OF THE
BATTERY A PERIOD OF AT LEAST ONE MINUTE MUST BE
ALLOWED TO ELAPSE BEFORE WORKING ON A FRONT SEAT WITH
A SIDE AIRBAG FITTED.
Remove battery cover and disc onnect ground cable from
battery terminal. Refer to 86.15.19.
2. Remove front seat for ac cess. Refer to 76.70.01.
3. Remove Seat back finisher. Refer to 76.70.09.
4. Remove front seat headrest.
5. Release the squab cover to seat frame securing strips (6 on
Vanden Plas models)
6. Release the squab cover to seat frame lower securing clips.
7. Remove the four squab pad to squab suspension hog rings.
8. On Vanden Plas models only, sever the two ratchet straps
securing squab pad to squab suspension.

11. Release seat headrest guides from seat frame and remove
squab cover and pad.
12. Position squab cover sides for access and remove the

13. Remove staples securing squab cover to squab pad and
heater element.
14. Remove headrest guid es from squab cover.
1. Fit and fully seat headrest guides to squab cover.

10. Fit and tighten squab cover upper securing screws.
11. Fit headrest.
12. Fit seat back finisher. Refer to 76.70.09.
13. Install front seat in vehi cle. Refer to 76.70.01.
14. Connect ground cable to batt ery terminal and fit battery
cover. Refer to 86.15.15
