REPLACEMENT
CAUTION:
Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will result
in the removal of natural fats from the skin, leading to dry-
ness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil
contains potentially harmful contaminants which may
cause skin cancer. Care should be taken, therefore, when
changing engine, oil to minimize the frequency and length
of time your skin is exposed to used engine oil. Protective
clothing and gloves that cannot be penetrated by oil should
be worn. The skin should be thoroughly washed with soap
and water, or use water−less hand cleaner, to remove any
used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinners, or solvents.
In order to preserve the environment, used oil and used oil
filters must be disposed of only at designated disposal
sites.
1. DRAIN ENGINE OIL
(a) Remove the oil filler cap.
(b) Remove the oil drain plug, and drain the oil into a contain-
er.
2. REPLACE OIL FILTER
(a) Using SST, remove the oil filter.
SST 09228−07501
(b) Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.
(c) Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.

If necessary, remove the cylinder head cover, and check these
conditions:
Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise and align its
groove with the timing mark ”0” of the oil pump cov-
er.
Verify that the timing marks with 1 and 2 dots are in
straight line on the cylinder head surface as shown
in the illustration.
If not, turn the crankshaft 1 revolition (360 °) and align the mark
as above.
2. INSTALL DISTRIBUTOR

− CHARGING (3RZ−FE)CHARGING SYSTEM
1996 TOYOTA T100 (RM449U)
ON−VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK BATTERY ELECTROLYTE LEVEL
Check the electrolyte quantity of each cell.
Maintenance−Free Battery:
If under the lower level, replace the battery (or add distilled wa-
ter if possible). Check the charging system.
Except Maintenance−Free Battery:
If under the lower level, add distilled water.
2. Except Maintenance−Free Battery:
CHECK BATTERY SPECIFIC GRAVITY
Check the specific gravity of each cell.
Standard specific gravity:
1.25 − 1.29 at 20°C (68°F)
If the specific gravity is less than specification, charge the bat-
tery.
3. Maintenance−Free Battery:
CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE
(a) After having driven the vehicle and in the case that 20
minutes have not passed after having stopped the en-
gine, turn the ignition switch ON and turn on the electrical
system (headlight, blower motor, rear defogger etc.) for
60 seconds to remove the surface charge.
(b) Turn the ignition switch OFF and turn off the electrical sys-
tems.
(c) Measure the battery voltage between the negative (−)
and positive (+) terminals of the battery.
Standard voltage:
12.7 − 12.9 V at 20°C (68°F)
HINT:
Before measuring the voltage, turn the ignition switch
OFF and turn off the electrical systems (headlight, blower
motor, rear defogger etc.) for 60 seconds to remove the
surface charge.
If the vehicle has been running, wait 20 minutes or more
after the vehicle stops before measuring the battery volt-
age.
If the voltage is less than specification, charge the battery.
HINT:
Check the indicator as shown in illustration.

6. INSPECT DRIVE BELT
(a) Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords
etc.
HINT:
Cracks on the ribbed side of the belt are considered acceptable.
If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should be re-
placed.
