Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine If the coolant inside the coolant surge tank is boiling, don’t do anything
else until
it cools down.
A CAUTION
The coolant level
should be visible
inside
the surge tank
once the cap
has been
removed.
If it isn’t,
you may have a leak
in the radiator hoses,
heater
hoses, radiator,
water pump or
somewhere
else in the
cooling system.
Heater and radiator hoses, and other engine parts, can be very
hot. Don’t
touch them. If you do, you can be burned.
Don’t run the engine if there
is a leak. If you run the engine, it
could lose all coolant. That could cause an engine fire, and you
could be burned. Get any leak fixed before you drive the vehicle.
I NOTICE:
Engine damage if you keep running your engine without coolant
isn’t covered
by your warranty. See “Overheated Engine
Protection Operating Mode”
in the Index.
If there seems to be no leak, with the engine on check to see if the electric
engine fans are running.
If the engine is overheating, both fans should be
running. If they aren’t, your vehicle needs service.

the coolant surge
tank pressure cap
when the cooling
system, including
the coolant surge
tank pressure cap
and upper radiator
hose, is
no longer
hot.
Turn the pressure
cap slowly to the left until it first stops. (Don't press
down while turning
the pressure cap.)
If you hear a hiss, wait for that to stop. A hiss means there is still some
pressure left.
2. Then keep turning the cap, but now
push down
as you
turn it. Remove
the pressure cap.

4. With the coolant
surge tank
pressure cap off,
start the engine
and let it run until
you can feel the
upper radiator hose getting hot.
Watch out
for the
engine fans.
By this time, the coolant level inside the coolant surge tank may be lower.
If the level is lower, add more of the proper mix to the coolant surge tank
until the
ievel reaches the base of the filler neck.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine To Check Coolant
When your engine is cold, the coolant level shouId be at the proper fill
level, which is two and a half inches (60 mm) below the base of the fill
neck. Use a flashlight as necessary to see into the tank.
To Add Coolant
If you need more coolant, add the proper mix at the surge tank, but only
when the engine is cool.
When replacing
the pressure cap, make sure it is tight.
SURGE TANK PRESSURE CAP
-~
NOTICE:
Your surge tank cap is a 15 psi (105 kPa) pressure-type cap and
must be tightly installed to prevent coolant
loss and possible
engine damage
from overheating. Be sure the arrows on the cap
line up with the overflow tube on the radiator filler neck.
If your surge tank pressure cap needs to be replaced an AC@ cap is
recommended.

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine THERMOSTAT
Engine coolant temperature is controlled by a thermostat in the engine
coolant system. Thc thcrrnostat stops
the flow of coolant through the
radiator until the coolant reaches a preset temperature.
If your thermostat needs to be replaced an AC@ thermostat is
recommended.
POWER STEERING FLUID
a
How to Check Power Steering Fluid
When the engine compartment is cool, unscrew the cap and wipe the
dipstick with a clean rag. Replace the cap and completely tighten it.
Then
remove the cap again and look at the fluid level on the dipstick.

What to Use
When you need windshield washer fluid, be sure to read the
manufacturer’s instructions before
use. If you will be operating your
vehicle
in an area where the temperature may fall below freezing, use a
fluid that has sufficient protection against freezing.
To Add I
Open the cap labeled
WASHER FLUID
ONLY. Add washer
fluid until the tank is
full.

When using concentrated washer fluid, follow the
manufacturer’s instructions for adding water.
Don’t mix water with ready-to-use washer fluid. Water can
cause the solution to freeze and damage your washer fluid
tank and other parts of the washer system.
Also, water
doesn’t clean
as well as washer fluid.
Fill your washer fluid tank only 3/4 full when it’s very cold.
This allows
for expansion, which could damage the tank if it
is completely full.
Don’t use radiator antifreeze in your windshield washer. It
can damage your washer system and paint.
