Features & Controls
Speedometer and
Odometer
Your speedometer lets you see your speed
in both miles per hour (mph) and
kilometers per hour (km/h). Your
odometer shows how far your vehicle has
been driven, in either miles (used in the
U.S.) or kilometers (used in Canada).
Tamper Resistant
Odometer
Your Pontiac has a tamper resistant
odometer.
If you see silver lines between
the numbers, you’ll know that someone
has probably tried to turn it back,
so the
numbers may not be true.
You may wonder what happens if your
vehicle needs a new odometer installed.
If
the new one can be set to the mileage total
of the old odometer, then it must be. But
if
it can’t, then it’s set at zero and a label
must be put
on the driver’s door to show
the old mileage reading when the new
odometer was installed.
Trip Odometer
The trip odometer can tell you how far
you have driven since you last reset it.
To
reset the trip odometer to zero, press the
knob to the right of the gage.
Tachometer (OPTION)
The tachometer shows your engine speed
in revolutions per minute (rpm).
I NOTICE:
I
Do not run your engine at speeds in
the red area, or engine damage may

Your dealer will know the kind of wheel
you need.
Each new wheel should have the same
load carrying capacity, diameter, width,
offset, and be mounted the same way as
the one
it replaces.
If you need to replace any of your wheels,
wheel bolts, or wheel nuts, replace them
only
with new GM original equipment
parts. This way, you
will be sure to have
the right wheel, wheel bolts, and wheel
nuts for your Pontiac model.
NOTICE:
The wrong wheel can also cause
problems
with bearing life, brake
cooling, speedometer/odometer
calibration, headlight aim, bumper
height, vehicle ground clearance,
and tire or tire chain clearance to the
body and chassis.
Used Replacement Wheels
‘ire Chains
NOTICE:
If your Pontiac has P195/70R14,
P2 15/60VR 14, P195/65R 15 or
P205/55R16 size tires, don’t use tire
chains; they can damage your
vehicle.
If you have other tires, use tire
chains only where legal and on
when you must. Use only
SAE
Class “S” type chains that are the
proper size for your tires. Install
them on the front tires and tighten
them as tightly
as possible with the
ends securely fastened. Drive slowly and follow the chain
manufacturer’s instructions. If you
can hear the chains contacting your
vehicle, stop and retighten them. If
the contact continues, slow down
until- it stops. Driving too fast with
chains on will damage your vehicle.
