DRIVER CHECKLIST
Before Entering Car
1. See that windows, mirrors and
lights are clean.
2. Visually note inflation condition
of tires.
3. Check that area to rear is clear
if about to back up.
Before Driving Off
1. Lock all doors.
2. Position seat.
3 . Adjust inside and outside mirrors.
4. Fasten seat belts.
5. Check that warning bulbs light
when key
is turned to start
position.
6. Release parking brake (and see
that brake warning light turns
off) .
7. Be sure you understand your car
and how to operate it safely.
Keys
Two separate keys are provided
for your car. Each key has a differ­
ent" cross section so that it can be
inserted only in certain locks.
• Key with square head
(stamped "J") -for ignition
switch only.
• Key with oval head (stamped
"K")-for all other locks.

The code number of each key is
stamped on the "knock out" plug
in the key head. Your Chevrolet
dealer removed these plugs and
placed them with the spare set of
keys in the special key envelope
that was given to 'you at time of
delivery.
For your protection:
• Record the numbers on the key
envelope and discard the key
plugs.
• Keep the key envelope in a safe
place such
as your wallet, Not
In The Car.
In the event the original keys are
lost, duplicates can be made by
your dealer
or a locksmith using
the key code information.
Be sure to lock the glove box or
console compartments and remove
the key from the car whenever it
is
necessary to leave the ignition key
with
an attendant.

Front
Seats
The front seats may be adjusted
forward or rearward by moving the
control lever at the front of the
seat to the right. Move control
lever to the right to release the
locking
mechanism; then exert
slight body pressure to move seat
to desired position. · Release con­
trol lever to lock seat in desired
position.
Inside Rearview Mirrors
Switc.h mirror to night position
to reduce glare from following
, headlights.
To raise or lower mir­
ror
to achieve desired field of view, grasp
mirror and exert sufficient
pressure by pushing or pulling up,
down or sideways.
Occupant Restraint Belts
Lap and shoulder belts provide
added. security and comfort for you
and your passengers. Proper
use
and care of these belts will assure
continuance of this security.
Seat Belt Restraint System
This vehicle is equipped with a
belt system, starter interlock, and
a light-buzzer
reminder system
which
is designed to prevent · start-

ing the car until front seat occu­
pants are buckled in.
NOTE: 1974 model General
Motors passenger cars sold in
CANADA have a light-buzzer re­
minder system which reminds occu­
pants when the driver's and any
front passenger's seat belts are not
fastened. Operation of this
"SEAT
BELT BUZZER/LIGHT RE­
MINDER" is explained under that
heading in this manual.
However, these cars do
NOT
have a seat belt starter interlock sys­
tem-a system which prevents start­
ing the car until the driver and the
right front passenger are buckled
up.
Therefore, the information
about the seat belt starter interlock
system under the heading
"TO
START CAR"
in this manual does
not apply, nor do any other refer­
ences in this manual to the seat belt
starter interlock system apply to this
new car sold in Canada.

The windshield defrosting and
defogging system assists in provid­
ing good visibility through desig­
nated areas of the windshield under
most inclement weather conditions.
For immediate operation of the
vehicle, the windshield should be
scraped clear.
AIR-DEF Lever
Pushing the AIR-DEF lever to
the right allows air to pass through
the system. Maximum airflow
is
obtained in the AIR position. Ad­
just
TEMP (lower) level as re­
quired to give desired degree of
heat. Full right position provides
maximum heat.
Further movement to the right
of the AIR-DEF lever directs the
'airflow through the defroster out­
lets as desired when windshield de-frosting
is needed. At the DEF po­
sition (full right) most airflow
is
diverted to the defroster outlets.
Vary
TEMP lever as required.
Fan
The fan lever has four (4) posi­
tions from off at the top to high
at the bottom.
Operate system for 30 seconds
(blower on high) before switching
to DEF. This will remove humid
air from the system and minimize
rapid fogging of the glass which can
occur if humid air
is blown onto a
cool windshield.

.Heater Operating Tips
• Clear snow and ice from hood
and air inlet in front of wind­
shield to improve heater and de­
froster efficiency and reduce the
probability of fogging on inside
of windshield.
• Clear windshield, rear window,
outside mirrors and all side win­
dows of ice and snow before
driving vehicle.
• Operate blower on "HIGH" for
a
few seconds before moving the
vehicle, to clear the intake ducts
of snow.

Combination Stains -In­
cludes, candy, ice cream, mayon­
naise, chili sauce
and unknown
stains. Carefully
scrape, off excess
stain; then clean first with
cool
water and allow to dry. If stain re­
mains, clean with Fabric Cleaner
(Solvent Type).
Cleaning Vinyl or Leather
Trim
Ordinary soilage can be removed
from vinyl or leather with warm
Exterior Appearance
Your car is finished with General
Motors "Magic-Mirror" acrylic
lacquer. This
is a finish of maxi­
mum beauty which, in depth of
color, gloss retention and durability
is superior to conventional lacquer
finishes. water
and a mild soap such
as
saddle soap, oil soap, or approved
equivalent. Apply a small amount
of soap solution and allow to soak
for a
few minutes to loosen dirt;
then, rub briskly with a clean
damp cloth to remove
dirt-and
soap residues-this operation may
be repeated several times if neces­
sary. Some soilage such
as tars,
asphalts, shoe polish, etc. will stain
if allowed to remain on trim-they
should be wiped off as quickly as
possible and the area cleaned with
G.M. Fabric Clean (Solvent Type).
Washing Your Car
The best way to preserve the
finish and maintain original beauty
of appearance
is to keep it clean .
Wash the car in lukewarm
or cold
water.
Never use strong soap or
chemical detergents. Cleaning
agents should be quickly flushed

Seat Belt Care
• Clean only with mild soap solu­
tion and lukewarm water.
• Do not bleach or dye belts since
this may severely weaken belts.
Interior Glass Surface
The interior glass surface should
be cleaned on a periodic basis ·f-or
continued good visibility. A com­
mercial household glass cleaning
agent containing ammonia will re­
move normal tobacco smoke and
dust
films sometimes caused by in­
gredients used in vinyls, plastics
or
other interior trim materials.
