BSM (Blind Spot Moni-
tor)*
The Blind Spot Monitor is a
system that has 2 functions:
The BSM (Blind Spot Monitor)
function
Assists the driver in making a
decision when changing lanes
The RCTA (Rear Crossing
Traffic Alert) function
Assists the driver when backing
up
These functions use the same
sensors.
WARNING
■Cautions regarding the use of the BSM function
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, tak-ing care to observe your surround-
ings. The BSM function is a supplementary function which alerts the driver that a
vehicle is in a blind spot of the outside rear view mirrors or is approaching rapidly from behind into a blind spot.
Do not overly rely on the BSM func- tion. As the function cannot judge if it is safe to change lanes, over reliance
could lead to an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
As the system may not function cor-
rectly under certain conditions, the driver’s own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.

tion of the brake pedal may be shown while the driving assist systems such as PCS (Pre-Collision system) (if
equipped) or the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range (if equipped) is operating. If a warning
message is shown, be sure to decel- erate the vehicle or follow the instruc-tion shown on the multi-information
display. • A warning message is shown when Brake Override System operates.
( P.289) • A warning message is shown when Drive-Start Control or Parking Support
Brake function (if equipped) operates ( P.289, 403). Follow the instructions on the multi-information display.

such as closing the open door or replen-
ishing a consumable.
■If a message that indicates the
need for visiting any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-rized repairer, or any reliable
repairer is displayed

■Warning buzzer
P.542
WARNING
■If a warning light comes on or a warning buzzer sounds when a
warning message is shown on the multi-information display
P.543
NOTICE
■“High Power Consumption Par- tial Limit On AC/Heater Opera-
tion” is frequently shown
There is a possible malfunction relat- ing to the charging system or the 12-
volt battery may be deteriorating. Have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

WARNING
■When using the compact spare tire
●Remember that the compact spare tire provided is specifically designed for use with your vehicle.
Do not use your compact spare tire on another vehicle.
●Do not use more than one compact spare tire simultaneously.
●Replace the compact spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-ing operations that cause sudden
engine braking.
■When the compact spare tire is
attached
The vehicle speed may not be cor- rectly detected, and the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:
• ABS & Brake assist
• VSC/Trailer Sway Control
•TRC
• Cruise control (if equipped)
• Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range (if equipped)
• PCS (Pre-Collision System) (if equipped)
• EPS
• LTA (Lane Tracing Assist) (if
equipped)
• Tire pressure warning system
• AHB (Automatic High Beam) (if equipped)
• BSM (if equipped)
• RCTA (if equipped)
• PKSB (if equipped)
• Toyota parking assist-sensor
• Rear view monitor system (if
equipped)
• Panoramic view monitor (if
equipped)
• Toyota parking assist monitor (if
equipped)
• Navigation system (if equipped)
Also, not only can the following sys- tem not be utilized fully, but it may
actually negatively affect the drive- train components:
• E-Four (Electronic On-Demand
AWD system)
■Speed limit when using the com-
pact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 80 km/h (50 mph) when a compact spare
tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high speeds.
Failure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death or serious injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the tools
and jack are securely in place in their storage location to reduce the possi-bility of personal injury during a colli-
sion or sudden braking.
NOTICE
■Be careful when driving over bumps with the compact spare
tire installed on the vehicle
The vehicle height may become lower when driving with the compact spare
tire compared to when driving with standard tires. Be careful when driv-ing over uneven road surfaces.
