For safety and security
■If the SRS airbags deploy (inflate)
● Slight abrasions, burns, bruising etc., may be sustained from SRS airbags,
due to the extremely high speed deployment (inflation) by hot gases.
● A loud noise and white powder will be emitted.
● Parts of the airbag module (steering wheel hub, airbag cover and inflator) as
well as the front seats, parts of the front and rear pillars, and roof side rails,
may be hot for several minutes. The airbag itself may also be hot.
● The windshield may crack.
● The hybrid system will be stopped and fuel supply to the engine will be
stopped. ( P. 85)
● The emergency flashers will turn on automatically. (P. 568)
● Vehicles with “ERA-GLONASS/EVAK”: If any of the following situations
occur, the system is designed to send an emergency call* to the “ERA-
GLONASS/EVAK control center”, notifying them of the vehicle’s location
(without needing to push the “SOS” button) and an agent will attempt to
speak with the occupants to ascertain the level of emergency and assis-
tance required. If the occupants are unable to communicate, the agent auto-
matically treats the call as an emergency and helps to dispatch the
necessary emergency services. ( P. 74)
• An SRS airbag is deployed.
• A seat belt pretensioner is activated.
• The vehicle is involved in a severe rear-end collision.
• The vehicle is involved in a rollover accident.

■ SRS airbag deployment conditions (SRS front airbags)
● The SRS front airbags will deploy in the event of an impact that exceeds the
set threshold level (the level of force corresponding to an approximately 20 -
30 km/h [12 - 18 mph] frontal collision with a fixed wall that does not move or
deform).
However, this threshold velocity will be considerably higher in the following
situations:
• If the vehicle strikes an object, such as a parked vehicle or sign pole,
which can move or deform on impact
• If the vehicle is involved in an underride collision, such as a collision in
which the front of the vehicle “underrides”, or goes under, the bed of a
truck
● Depending on the type of collision, it is possible that only the seat belt pre-
tensioners will activate.

◆“Fuel Consumption Record”
The transitions of the average fuel consumption after the hybrid
system starts can be checked in such a unit as every 5 minutes or
every 1 km (0.6 mile)
*1 or 1 mile (1.6 km)*2 of driving. Also, it is
possible to check the average fuel consumption history for each
month by switching to the “Monthly” display.

How to read the screen
The “5 min” display is shown as an example. However, the basic
method for how to read the screen is the same for each fuel con-
sumption history screen.

“Gasoline Price”
*1 and “COMP. Consumption” information is regis-
tered in the “Meter Customize” settings (P. 156), making it possi-
ble to display 2 types of information related to gasoline fuel
consumption.
“SAVINGS”
If information about the vehicle used to compare fuel consumption
(“COMP. Consumption”) is entered, when the fuel consumption of
this vehicle according to the mileage of the trip meter
*2 is greater
than that of the comparison vehicle, an estimation
*3 of the amount
of the fuel cost savings is displayed.
“FUEL COST”
If information about the vehicle used to compare fuel consumption
(“COMP. Consumption”) is not entered, an estimation
*3 of the
amount of fuel cost savings is displayed according to the mileage of
the trip meter

Opening the fuel tank cap
●Turn the power switch off and ensure that all the doors and win-
dows are closed.
●Confirm the type of fuel.

■Fuel tank opening for unleaded gasoline
To help prevent incorrect fueling, your vehicle has a fuel tank opening that
only accommodates the special nozzle on unleaded fuel pumps.
■Gasoline price setting screen (if equipped)
After refueling more than approximately 5 L (1.3 gal., 1.1 Imp.gal.) and turn-
ing the power switch to ON mode, the gasoline price setting screen will be
automatically displayed on the multi-information display. (P. 104)

GPF (Gasoline Par ticulate Filter) system
■If “Exhaust Filter Full See Owner’s Manual” is shown on the multi-infor-
mation display
● The message may be displayed while high load driving with particulate mat-
ter accumulating.
● Hybrid system output (engine speed) is restricted when a certain amount of
particulate matter accumulates, however, it is possible to drive the vehicle
unless the malfunction indicator lamp comes on.
● Particulate matter can accumulate more quickly if the vehicle is frequently
driven short trips or at low speeds, or if the hybrid system is regularly started
in an extremely cold environment. Excessive accumulation of particulate
matter can be prevented by periodically driving long distances continuously
with intermittent releasing of the accelerator pedal, such as when driving on
highways and freeways.
■ If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on or “Exhaust Filter Full Visit
Your Dealer” is shown on the multi-information display
The amount of accumulated particulate matter has exceeded a certain level.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.
: If equipped
The GPF system collects particulate matter in the exhaust gas
by using an exhaust gas filter.
The system will operate to regenerate the filter automatically,
depending on the vehicle conditions.
NOTICE
■ To prevent the GPF system from not operating properly
● Do not use fuel other than the specified type
● Do not modify the exhaust pipes

If the hybrid system will not star t
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (P. 636)
● There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( P. 8 6 )
● There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (P. 9 1 )
● There may be a malfunction in the shift control system.*
( P. 247, 597)
● The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. How-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. ( P. 635)
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 639)
● The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
( P. 521)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the following and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. ( P. 244)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.
