Interior features
humidity sensor detects fog on the
windshield and controls the air con-
ditioning system to prevent fog.
■Outside/recirculated air mode
●Setting to the r ecirculated air
mode temporarily is recom-
mended in preventing dirty air
from entering the vehicle interior
and helping to c ool the vehicle
when the outside air temperature
is high.
●Outside/recirculated air mode may
automatically switch depending on
the temperature setting or the
inside temperature.
■When the outside temperature
falls to nearly 32°F (0°C)
The dehumidification function may
not operate even when “A/C” switch
is selected.
■Operation of the air condition-
ing system in Eco drive mode
●In Eco drive mode, the air condi-
tioning system is controlled as fol-
lows to prioritize fuel efficiency:
• Fuel cell system and compressor
operation controlled to restrict
heating/cooling capacity
• Fan speed restr icted when auto-
matic mode is selected
●To improve air co nditioning perfor-
mance, perform the following
operations:
• Adjust the fan speed
• Turn off Eco drive mode ( P.320)
• Turn off Eco air conditioning mode
●When the driving mode is set to
Eco drive mode, the Eco air condi-
tioning mode will be turned on
automatically. Even in this case,
the Eco air conditioning mode can
be turned off by s electing the Eco
air conditioning mode switch.
■When cleaning the air condi-
tioning control panel
Touch switches may respond when
cleaning. Turn the power switch to
OFF before proceeding with clean-
ing.
■Ventilation and air conditioning
odors
●To let fresh air in, set the air condi-
tioning system to the outside air
mode.
●During use, various odors from
inside and outside the vehicle may
enter into and accumulate in the
air conditioning system. This may
then cause odor to be emitted
from the vents.
●In order to suppr ess odors that
occur when the air conditioning
system starts, the air flow mode
may change to blow air to the feet
or air may stop blowing for a short
period of time immediately after
the air conditioning system is
started in automatic mode.
●When parking, the system auto-
matically switches to outside air
mode to encourage better air cir-
culation throughout the vehicle,
helping to reduce odors that occur
when starting the vehicle.

WARNING
■To prevent the windshield
from fogging up
Do not use the windshield defog-
ger switch during cool air opera-
tion in extremely humid weather.
The difference between the tem-
perature of the outside air and
that of the windshield can cause
the outer surface of the wind-
shield to fog up, blocking your
vision.
■When the outside rear view
mirror defoggers are operat-
ing
Do not touch the rear view mirror
surfaces when the outside rear
view mirror defoggers are on.
NOTICE
■To prevent 12-volt battery dis-
charge
Do not leave the air conditioning
system on longer than necessary
when the fuel ce ll system is off.
■Humidity sensor (Vehicles
with Toyota Teammate
Advanced Drive)
In order to detect fog on the wind-
shield, a sensor which monitors
the temperature of the windshield,
the surround humidity, etc. is
installed.
Follow these points to avoid dam-
aging the sensor:
●Do not disassemble the sensor
●Do not spray glass cleaner on
the sensor or subject it to strong
impacts
●Do not stick anything on the
sensor

Maintenance and care
●To protect the paint from damage,
make sure to obs erve the follow-
ing precautions.
• Do not use acidi c, alkaline or
abrasive detergent
• Do not use hard brushes
• Do not use det ergent on the
wheels when they are hot, such
as after driving or parking in hot
weather
■Brake pads and calipers
Rust may form if the vehicle is
parked with wet brake pads or disc
rotors, causing them to stick. Before
parking the vehicle after it is
washed, drive slow ly and apply the
brakes several times to dry the
parts.
■Bumpers
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
■Front side windows water-
repellent coating
●The following precautions can
extend the effectiveness of the
water-repellent coating.
• Remove any dirt, etc. from the front side windows regularly.
• Do not allow dirt and dust to accu- mulate on the windows for a long
period.
Clean the windows with a soft,
damp cloth as soon as possible.
• Do not use wax or glass cleaners
that contain abrasives when
cleaning the windows.
• Do not use any metallic objects to
remove condensation build up.
■Plated portions
If dirt cannot be removed, clean the
parts as follows:
●Use a soft cloth dampened with an
approximately 5% solution of neu-
tral detergent and water to clean
the dirt off.
●Wipe the surface with a dry, soft
cloth to remove any remaining
moisture.
●To remove oily deposits, use alco-
hol wet wipes or a similar product.
■Roof film (vehicles with elec-
tronic sunshade)
●Dirt like bird droppings and oil
should be cleaned off with a neu-
tral detergent immediately.
●When something was attached on
the film and its mark remains. The
small mark can be recovered by
dryer heating.
●Do not apply any films on the film.
●Do not use wax that contains
abrasives.
●In case of the film repair, please
request at your Toyota dealer.
■Vehicles with Advanced Drive
(if equipped)
As this vehicle is equipped with vari-
ous sensors, also refer to “Toyota
Teammate Advanced Drive
OWNER’S MANUAL” at Toyota.com
when cleaning the vehicle.
WARNING
■When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of
the fuel cell unit compartment.
Doing so may cause the electrical
components, etc . to catch fire.

edly in the following situations,
and may result in hands being
caught or other serious injuries
and cause damage to the wiper
blades.

sor
●If something bumps against the
windshield
●If you directly touch the raindrop
sensor body or if something
bumps into the raindrop sensor

tion and corrosion on the
body and components (alumi-
num wheels, etc.)
●Wash the vehicle immediately in
the following cases:
• After driving nea r the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If coal tar or tree sap is present on the paint surface

Maintenance and care
NOTICE
• If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled with dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gasoline are spilled on the paint
surface
●If the paint is chipped or
scratched, have it repaired
immediately.
●To prevent the wheels from cor-
roding, remove any dirt and
store in a place with low humid-
ity when storing the wheels.
■Cleaning the exterior lights
●Wash carefully. Do not use
organic substances or scrub
with a hard brush.
This may damage the surfaces
of the lights.
●Do not apply wax to the sur-
faces of the lights.
Wax may cause damage to the
lenses.
■When washing the car
Do not remove the vehicle recep-
tacle cap and directly pour water
over the vehicle receptacle. If
water enters the vehicle recepta-
cle, damage may occur.
■When using an automatic car
wash
Set the wiper switch to the off
position.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”,
the wipers may operate and the
wiper blades may be damaged.
■When using a high pressure
car wash
●When washing the vehicle, do
not spray the camera or its sur-
rounding area directly with a
high pressure washer. Shock
applied from high pressure
water may cause the device to
not operate normally.
●Do not spray water directly on
the radar sensor which is
equipped behind the emblem.
Otherwise it may cause the
device to be damaged.
●Do not bring the nozzle tip close
to boots (rubber or resin manu-
factured cover), connectors or
the following parts. The parts
may be damaged if they come
into contact with high-pressure
water.
• Fuel cell stack
• Traction related parts
• Steering parts
• Suspension parts
• Brake parts
●Keep the cleaning nozzle at
least 11.9 in. (30 cm) away from
the vehicle body. Otherwise
resin section, s uch as moldings
and bumpers, may be deformed
and damaged.
Also, do not continuously hold the
nozzle in the same place.
●Do not spray the lower part of
the windshield continuously.
If water enters the air conditioning
system intake located near the
lower part of the windshield, the
air conditioning system may not
operate correctly.
