Overview of climate control systems
Notes on climate control
An interior air "Nlter in combination with the pre"Nl-
ter in the engine compartment must always be
used so that the air conditioning system, pollution level monitoring and the air "Nltration work cor-
rectly. Use "Nlters recommended and approved by
Mercedes-Benz. Always have maintenance work
carried out at a quali"Ned specialist workshop.
Overview of the air conditioning control panel
The indicator lamps on the buttons indicate that
the corresponding function is activated.

Switching climate control on/o"M
To switch on: set the air"Oow to level 1 or
higher using the + button.To switch o"M: set the air"Oow to level 0 using
the + button.
If climate control is switched o"M, the windows
may fog up more quickly. Switch climate control o"M only brie"Oy.
Switching the climate control in the rear
passenger compartment on/o"M
Press button 5.\bWhen climate control in the second seat row
is switched o"M, the indicator lamp is activated
and OFF is shown on the rear display.
Switching the A/C function on/o"M using the air
conditioning control panel
The A/C function heats, cools and dehumidi"Nes
the vehicle\bs interior air.
Press the V button.
Switch o"M the A/C function only brie"Oy; other-
wise, the windows may fog up more quickly.
Condensation may drip from the underside of the vehicle when cooling mode is active. This is not
indicative of a malfunction.
Calling up the air conditioning menu via the cli- mate bar or the air conditioning control panel
The air conditioning menu can be called up via the
climate bar. The climate bar is always shown on
the lower edge of the media display.
Select the Climate Menu entry in the air con-
ditioning bar.
Activating/deactivating the A/C function via the air conditioning menu

Depending on the external conditions, support for
improved cooling and dehumidi"Ncation of the inte-
rior air will be provided when the A/C function is

activated. If it is not possible to operate the A/C
function on the climate bar on the central display, switch the function on or o"M in the climate menu
of the central display.Select A/C (A/C).
Sets climate control to automatic mode
In automatic mode, the set temperature is con-
trolled and maintained at a constant level by the air supply.
Press button X .To switch to manual mode: press the X
button.
In automatic mode, you can choose between "Nve
di"Merent air quantities using the + button.
Automatic mode is retained.
Automatically controlling the climate control in the rear passenger compartment
In automatic mode, the set temperature is regula-
ted by the temperature of the dispensed air and
the air"Oow.
Press button X .
Setting air distribution using the air conditioning
menu

Seats .To set the air distribution: select a,

Switching the synchronization function on/o"M via
the air conditioning control panel
Requirements
= The vehicle is not "Ntted with a stationary
heater.
Climate control can be set centrally using the syn-
chronization function. The temperature and air distribution setting for the driver\bs side will beadopted automatically for all climate controlzones.
Press the  button.
The synchronization function will be deactivated if
the settings for one of the other climate zones are
changed.

the air conditioning menu

First Row of Seats
The synchronization function controls the climate control centrally. The driver\bs settings for temper-
ature, air"Oow and air distribution are automatically
adopted for each climate zone.Select SYNC (SYNC).
Defrosting the windows
Windows fogged up on the inside
Press the X button.If the windows remain fogged up: press
the d button.
Windows fogged up on the outside
Switch on the windshield wipers.Press the X button.
Switching air-recirculation mode on/o"M
Press the r button.
The interior air will be recirculated.
Air-recirculation mode automatically switches to
fresh air mode a"ser a while.
\bIf air-recirculation mode is switched on, the
windows may fog up more quickly. Switch on
air-recirculation mode only brie"Oy.
Switching the residual heat on or o"M
Requirements:
= The vehicle is parked.
It is possible to make use of the residual heat from the engine to continue heating or ventilating
the front compartment of the vehicle for approx-
imately 30 minutes, depending on the tempera- ture set.
To activate: press V button.
Residual heat will be switched o"M automatically.
Switching the residual heat in the rear passenger
compartment on/o"M
Requirements
= The vehicle is parked.
When the residual heat of the engine is activated in the rear passenger compartment, you can heat

or ventilate the rear passenger compartment forapproximately 30 minutes.Press button 5 ( page 144).
Activating/deactivating ionization
Multimedia system:

Air Quality
When ionization is activated, the interior air is
enriched with negatively charged oxygen ions.
This can promote the well-being of the vehicle
occupants.
Select Ionization .\bThe function can be performed only if AUTO
mode is activated or the air distribution is set
to the side air vent. The function is restricted
if the side air vents on the driver\bs side are
closed.Fragrance system

q Activating/deactivating the fragrance system
using the multimedia system
Requirements
= Automatic climate control is activated.
= The glove compartment will close.
= A "Oacon is inserted.

Air Quality
The fragrance system distributes a pleasant fra-
grance throughout the vehicle interior from a "Oa-
con located in the glove compartment.
Navigate down until the climate control bar is
active.Select Fragrance .Activate or deactivate fragrancing.

qSetting the fragrance system using the multi-
media system
Requirements
= A "Oacon is inserted.
=
The glove box will close.
= Climate control is activated.

Air Quality
The fragrance system distributes a pleasant fra-
grance throughout the vehicle interior from a "Oa-
con located in the glove box.Select Fragrance .Keep pressing until the desired intensity is
reached.

q Inserting or removing the "Oacon of the fra-
grance system
&WARNING Risk of injury from liquid per-
fume
If children open the "Oacon, they could drink
the liquid perfume or it could come into con-
tact with their eyes.
Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle.Climate control147

Consult a doctor immediately if liquid
perfume has been drunk.If liquid perfume comes into contact with
your eyes or skin, rinse your eyes with
clean water.If symptoms continue, consult a doctor.+ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental
damage due to improper disposal of full
"Oacons
Full "Oacons must not be disposed of
together with household waste.

Hand in full "Oacons at a pollu-
tant collection point.
1Cap2FlaconTo insert: slide the "Oacon into the holder as far
as it will go.To remove: a"ser opening the glove compart-
ment, wait for approximately seven seconds
and pull out the "Oacon.If you do not use genuine Mercedes-Benz interior
perfumes, observe the manufacturers\b safety noti-ces on the perfume packaging.
Dispose of the genuine Mercedes-Benz interior
perfume "Oacon when it is empty and do not re"Nll
it.
Re"Nllable "OaconUnscrew the cap of the empty "Oacon.Fill the "Oacon with a maximum of 0.5 "O. oz.
(15 ml).Screw the cap back onto the "Oacon.
Always re"Nll the empty re"Nllable "Oacon with the
same perfume. Observe the separate information
sheet that comes with the "Oacon.
Air vents

qAdjusting the front air vents
&WARNING Risk of burns or frostbite due to
being too close to the air vents
Very hot or very cold air can "Oow from the air
vents.

Make sure that all vehicle occupantsalways maintain a su"Pcient distance
from the air vents.If necessary, direct the air"Oow to another
area of the vehicle interior.
To guarantee the "Oow of fresh air through the air
vents into the vehicle interior, note the following:
= Always keep the vents and ventilation grilles in
the vehicle interior clear.
= Keep the air inlet free of residue build-up
(  page 322).
= Optimum climate comfort is achieved with the
air vents in the center position.
To open or close center air vents: turn control-
ler 2 up or down as far as it will go.To open or close side air vents: turn control-
ler 2 to the le"s or right as far as it will go.To adjust the air direction: hold air vent 1 in
the center and move it up or down or to the le"s or right.

qAdjusting the rear passenger compartment air
vents
To open or close: turn controller 2 to the le"s
or right as far as it will go.To set the air"Oow direction: hold the center of
air vent 1 and move it up or down or to the
le"s or right.

qOpening or closing the air vent in the glove box
*NOTE Damage to temperature-sensitive
objects in the glove box
Temperature-sensitive objects stored in the
glove box may be damaged by the air vent located inside it.
Close the air vent when you heat thevehicle.At high outside temperatures, open the
air vent and switch on the A/C function.
The automatic climate control must be switched
on to cool the glove box.
