HEADLAMPS – FREQUENTLYASKED QUESTIONS
Why is there condensation in theheadlamps?
•Headlamps have vents toaccommodate normal changes in airpressure. Condensation can be anatural by-product of this design. When moist air enters the lampassembly through the vents, there is apossibility that condensation can occurwhen the temperature is cold. Whennormal condensation occurs, a finemist can form on the interior of thelens. The fine mist eventually clearsand exits through the vents duringnormal operation.
How much condensation isacceptable?
•The presence of a fine mist, forexample no streaks, drip marks or largedroplets. A fine mist covers less than50% of the lens.
How long may it take for theacceptable condensation to becleared?
•Clearing time may take as long as 48hours under dry weather conditions.
How much condensation isunacceptable?
•A water puddle inside the lamp.Streaks, drip marks or large dropletspresent on the interior of the lens.
What should I do if unacceptablecondensation is present?
•Have your vehicle checked as soon aspossible.
Why do my headlamps turn offwhen I have them switched onwhen I switch my vehicle off?
•The battery saver turns the headlampsoff after a short period of time after youswitch your vehicle off.

HOW DOES ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
WORK - EXCLUDING: FX4 OFF
ROAD/TREMOR
The all-wheel drive system is designed tocontinuously monitor and adjust powerdelivery to the front and rear wheels tooptimize both traction and handling. TheAWD system turns on when needed anddoes not require input from you.
Your all-wheel drive vehicle is not intendedfor off-road use. The AWD feature givesyour vehicle some limited off-roadcapabilities in which driving surfaces arerelatively level, obstruction-free andotherwise similar to normal on-road drivingconditions. Operating your vehicle inconditions other than those, could subjectthe vehicle to excess stress which mightresult in damage which is not coveredunder your warranty.
HOW DOES ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
WORK - FX4 OFF ROAD/
TREMOR
All-wheel drive uses all four wheels topower the vehicle. This increases traction, enabling you to drive over terrain and roadconditions that a conventional two-wheeldrive vehicle cannot. The AWD systemturns on when needed and does not requireinput from you.
Four-Wheel Drive Lock (If Equipped)
The four-wheel drive lock increasesperformance by preventing the front andrear axles from disconnecting. You canactivate and deactivate the four-wheeldrive lock on the fly by pressing the buttonon the drive mode control. It also engagesbased on certain selected drive modes.See Selecting a Drive Mode (page 230).
Note:The four-wheel drive lock is notintended for use on dry pavement. Using thelock on dry pavement can produce excessivenoise, increase tire and vehicle wear.
The 4WD lock indicatorilluminates in the instrumentcluster when in use. When instandby mode, the light displays gray. When active, the light changes color.
Rear Differential Lock (If Equipped)
This feature provides additional tractionon loose or steep terrain, or should yourvehicle become stuck. You can activateand deactivate the rear electronic lockingdifferential feature while moving within theoperating speed range by pressing thebutton on the drive mode control. Thefeature disengages when the vehicle speedexceeds a set value and it re-engageswhen the vehicle speed goes below a setvalue. It also engages based on certainselected drive modes. See Selecting aDrive Mode (page 230).
The rear electronic locking differential isfor use in mud, rocks, sand or off-roadconditions where you need maximumtraction. It is not for use on dry pavement.

BRAKES –
TROUBLESHOOTING
BRAKES – WARNING LAMPS
WARNING: Driving your vehiclewith the warning lamp on is dangerous.A significant decrease in brakingperformance may occur. It may take youlonger to stop your vehicle. Have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.Driving extended distances with theparking brake engaged can cause brakefailure and the risk of personal injury.
If the ABS indicator illuminateswhen you are driving, thisindicates a malfunction. Yourvehicle continues to have normal brakingwithout the anti-lock braking systemfunction. See an authorized dealer.
It also momentarily illuminates when youswitch the ignition on to confirm the lampis functional. If it does not illuminate whenyou switch the ignition on, or begins toflash at any time, have the system checkedby an authorized dealer.
The brake indicator momentarilyilluminates when you switch theignition on to confirm the lampis functional. It may also illuminate whenyou apply the parking brake and theignition is on. If it illuminates when yourvehicle is moving, make sure the parkingbrake is disengaged. If the parking brakeis disengaged, this indicates low brake fluidlevel or a brake system fault. See anauthorized dealer.
BRAKES – FREQUENTLY ASKEDQUESTIONS
Is brake dust on the wheels normal?
Brake dust could accumulate on thewheels, even under normal drivingconditions. Some dust is inevitable asthe brakes wear and does notcontribute to brake noise. SeeCleaning Wheels (page 328).
Will wet driving conditions effect mybraking abilities?
Wet brakes result in reduced brakingefficiency. Gently press the brakepedal a few times when driving froma car wash or standing water to dry thebrakes.
Is brake noise considered normal?
Occasional brake noise is normal. If ametal-to-metal, continuous grindingor continuous squeal sound is present, the brake linings may be worn-out andan authorized dealer should checkthem. If the vehicle has continuousvibration or shudder in the steeringwheel while braking, an authorizeddealer should check your vehicle.
When should you replace the brakefluid?
Brake fluid absorbs water over timewhich degrades the effectiveness ofthe brake fluid. Change the brake fluidat the specified intervals to preventdegraded braking performance. SeeNormal Scheduled Maintenance(page 453).

HOW DOES STABILITY
CONTROL WORK
WARNING: Vehicle modificationsinvolving braking system, aftermarketroof racks, suspension, steering system, tire construction and wheel and tire sizemay change the handling characteristicsof your vehicle and may adversely affectthe performance of the electronicstability control system. In addition, installing any stereo loudspeakers mayinterfere with and adversely affect theelectronic stability control system. Installany aftermarket stereo loudspeaker asfar as possible from the front centerconsole, the tunnel, and the front seatsin order to minimize the risk of interferingwith the electronic stability controlsensors. Reducing the effectiveness ofthe electronic stability control systemcould lead to an increased risk of loss ofvehicle control, vehicle rollover, personalinjury and death.
WARNING: Remember that evenadvanced technology cannot defy thelaws of physics. It's always possible tolose control of a vehicle due toinappropriate driver input for theconditions. Aggressive driving on anyroad condition can cause you to losecontrol of your vehicle increasing the riskof personal injury or property damage.Activation of the electronic stabilitycontrol system is an indication that atleast some of the tires have exceededtheir ability to grip the road; this couldreduce the operator's ability to controlthe vehicle potentially resulting in a lossof vehicle control, vehicle rollover, personal injury and death. If yourelectronic stability control systemactivates, SLOW DOWN.
If a driving condition activates either thestability control or the traction controlsystem you may experience the followingconditions:
•The stability and traction control lightflashes.
•Your vehicle slows down.
•Reduced engine power.
The stability control system has severalfeatures built into it to help you maintaincontrol of your vehicle:
Electronic Stability Control
Electronic stability control enhances yourvehicle’s ability to prevent skids or lateralslides by applying brakes to one or moreof the wheels individually and, if necessary, reducing engine power.
Roll Stability Control
Roll stability control enhances yourvehicle’s ability to prevent rollovers bydetecting your vehicle’s roll motion andthe rate at which it changes by applyingthe brakes to one or more wheelsindividually.
Curve Control
Curve control enhances your vehicle’sability to follow the road when corneringseverely or avoiding objects in the roadway.Curve control operates by reducing enginepower and, if necessary, applying brakesto one or more of the wheels individually.
Traction Control
Traction control enhances your vehicle’sability to maintain traction of the wheelsby detecting and controlling wheel spin.See How Does Traction Control Work(page 200).
