FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Vehicles with a highercenter of gravity (utility and four-wheeldrive vehicles) handle differently thanvehicles with a lower center of gravity(passenger cars). Avoid sharp turns,excessive speed and abrupt steering inthese vehicles. Failure to drive cautiouslyincreases the risk of losing control of yourvehicle, vehicle rollover, personal injuryand death.
WARNING: Do not becomeoverconfident in the ability of four-wheeldrive vehicles. Although a four-wheeldrive vehicle may accelerate better thana two-wheel drive vehicle in low tractionsituations, it won't stop any faster thantwo-wheel drive vehicles. Always driveat a safe speed.
Truck and utility vehicles can differ fromsome other vehicles. Your vehicle could behigher to allow it to travel over roughterrain without getting stuck or damagingunderbody components. The differencesthat make your vehicle so versatile alsomake it handle differently than an ordinarypassenger car. Always maintain steeringwheel control, especially in rough terrain.Since sudden changes in terrain can resultin abrupt steering wheel motion, make sureyou grip the steering wheel from the
outside. Do not grip the spokes. Drivecautiously to avoid vehicle damage fromconcealed objects such as rocks andstumps. Drive slower in strong crosswindswhich can affect the normal steeringcharacteristics of your vehicle. Beextremely careful when driving onpavement made slippery by loose sand,water, gravel, snow or ice.
Note:Do not use four-wheel drive high orfour-wheel drive low mode on dry, hardsurfaced roads. Doing so can produceexcessive noise, increase tire wear and candamage drive components.
FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE
LIMITATIONS
Operating Four-Wheel Drive witha Spare or Mismatched Tires (If
Equipped)
On four-wheel drive vehicles, the size ofthe spare tire can affect the four-wheeldrive system. If there is a significantdifference between the size of the sparetire and the remaining tires, you could havelimited four-wheel drive functionality.When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, werecommend that you do not:
•Exceed 50 mph (80 km/h) with afour-wheel drive mode turned on.
•Turn on a four-wheel drive modeunless the vehicle is stationary.
•Use a four-wheel drive mode on drypavement.
Driving with the full-size dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly can limitfour-wheel drive functionality, especiallywhen driving in a mechanically lockedfour-wheel drive mode. You can experiencethe following:

•Additional noise from the transfer caseor other drive components.
•Difficulty shifting out of a mechanicallylocked four-wheel drive mode.
Use of a dissimilar spare wheel and tireassembly can lead to impairment of thefollowing:
•Comfort and noise.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet driving capability.
•Four-wheel drive capability.
Mechanical Shift Blocking
On four-wheel drive vehicles with amechanically locked four-wheel drive highmode, the transfer case distributes torqueto the front wheels by mechanicallyinterlocking the front and rear driveshaftstogether. Various external factors canaffect shifting performance of this type ofsystem including, but not limited to:
•Vehicle acceleration.
•Dissimilar tire sizes.
•Steering input.
If the system detects a mechanical shiftblockage at speed after you selecttwo-wheel drive high, the message "4x4Unable to Disengage See Manual", coulddisplay momentarily. If this messagedisplays, one or more of the followingactions can relieve the mechanical shiftblock:
•Momentary acceleration.
•Momentary braking.
•Bringing the vehicle to a stop.
•Shifting the transmission to neutral andback to drive.
•Shifting the transmission to reverseand back to drive.
•Driving the vehicle around a tight turnat a slow speed.

DIFFERENTIAL PRECAUTIONS
Operating the Electronic LockingDifferential with a Spare orMismatched Tires
On vehicles with an electronic lockingdifferential, the size of the spare tire canaffect performance of the system. If thereis a significant difference between the tworear tires, you may have limited electroniclocking differential functionality. If thesystem has difficulty disengaging, releasethe accelerator pedal and turn the steeringwheel in the opposite direction whenrolling. We recommend engaging anddisengaging the electronic lockingdifferential at a stop when you mount aspare on the rear axle.
SWITCHING THE ELECTRONIC

Lane Centering may not correctly operatein any of the following conditions:
•The lane is too narrow or wide.
•The system does not detect at leastone lane marking or when lanes mergeor split.
•Limited steering torque input is applied.
•Areas under construction or newinfrastructure.
•When modifications to the steeringsystem have been made.
•When using a spare tire.
•In high wind conditions.
Note:The driving assistance torque islimited and may not be sufficient for alldriving situations such as driving throughtight curves or driving through curves at highspeeds.
Note:In exceptional conditions, such asinclement weather or direct sunlight, thesystem could deviate from the center lineor could cancel.
SWITCHING LANE CENTERING ONAND OFF
Keep your hands on the steering wheel atall times.
The controls are on the steering wheel.
Press the button.
The indicator appears in the instrumentcluster display. When the system is on, thecolor of the indicator changes to indicatethe system status.
You can override the system at any timeby steering your vehicle.
Note:The correct requirements must bemet before you can switch the system on.See Lane Centering Requirements (page349).
Enabling and Disabling LaneCentering
1.Press Features on the touchscreen.
2.Press Driver Assistance.
3.Press Cruise Control.
4.Press Lane Centering Assist.
LANE CENTERING ALERTS
You must keep your hands on the steeringwheel at all times.
When the system is active and detects nosteering activity for a period of time, thesystem alerts you to put your hands on thesteering wheel. If you do not react to thewarnings the system cancels and slowsyour vehicle down to idle speeds whilemaintaining steering control. See LaneCentering Automatic Cancellation(page 350).
The system also alerts you if your vehiclecrosses lane markings without detectedsteering activity.
Note:The system could detect a light gripor touch on the steering wheel as hands-offdriving.
LANE CENTERING AUTOMATICCANCELLATION
When an external condition cancels thesystem, for example, no lane line markingsavailable, a tone sounds and a messageappears in the instrument cluster display.
If your vehicle starts to slowdown after system cancellation,you must take full control of thevehicle. To re-enable adaptive cruisecontrol with lane centering aftercancellation, press and release the resumebutton.

BLUECRUISE REQUIREMENTS
BlueCruise only activates when all of thefollowing occur:
•BlueCruise is enabled in yourinformation and entertainment screen.See BlueCruise Settings (page 358).
•Adaptive cruise control is on.
•The system detects both lanemarkings.
•Your hands are on the steering wheel.
•Your eyes are on the road.
Note:For hands-free mode to work, yourvehicle must be on certain limited accessdivided freeways.
Note:The system may require updatedsoftware for hands-free mode. See VehicleSoftware Updates (page 657).
BLUECRUISE LIMITATIONS
Any of the following conditions could resultin BlueCruise not correctly operating:
•You do not have your vehicle centeredin the lane.
•The lane is too narrow or too wide.
•The system does not detect at leastone lane marking or when lanes mergeor split.
•You are applying a low amount ofsteering input.
•You are using the system in areas underconstruction.
•If you make any aftermarketmodifications to the steering system.
•You are using a spare tire.

Your vehicle may have a temporary orconventional spare tire. A temporary sparetire is different in diameter or width,tread-type, or is from a differentmanufacturer than the road tires on yourvehicle. Consult information on the tirelabel or Safety Compliance label forlimitations when using.
When towing a trailer:
•Obey country specific regulations fortowing a trailer.
•Do not drive faster than 70 mph(113 km/h) during the first 500 mi(800 km).
•Do not make full-throttle starts.
•Check your hitch, electrical connectionsand trailer wheel lug nuts thoroughlyafter you have traveled 50 mi (80 km).
•When stopped in congested or heavytraffic during hot weather, place thetransmission in park (P) to aid engineand transmission cooling and to helpA/C performance.
•Turn off the speed control with heavyloads or in hilly terrain. The speedcontrol may turn off when you aretowing on long, steep slopes.
•Shift to a lower gear when driving downa long or steep hill. Do not continuouslyapply the brakes, as they may overheatand become less effective.
•If your transmission has Grade Assistor Tow/Haul, use this feature whentowing. This provides engine brakingand helps eliminate excessivetransmission shifting for optimum fueleconomy and transmission cooling.
•Your vehicle has AdvanceTrac with rollstability control. When towing a trailer,additional loads could cause theAdvanceTrac system to engage duringcornering maneuvers. Reduce corneringspeeds to make sure that you canmaintain control of the vehicle andtrailer if the AdvanceTrac systemengages.
•Allow more distance for stopping witha trailer attached. Anticipate stops andgradually brake.
•Avoid parking on a slope. However, ifyou must park on a slope, turn thesteering wheel to point your vehicletires away from traffic flow, set theparking brake, place the transmissionin park (P) and place wheel chocks infront and back of the trailer wheels.
Note:Chocks are not included with yourvehicle.
LAUNCHING OR RETRIEVING
A BOAT OR PERSONAL
WATERCRAFT
When backing down a ramp during boatlaunching or retrieval:
•Do not allow the static water level torise above the bottom edge of the rearbumper.
•Do not allow waves to break higherthan 6 in (15 cm) above the bottomedge of the rear bumper.
Exceeding 6 in (15 cm) could allow waterto enter vehicle components, causinginternal damage to the components andaffecting driveability, emissions andreliability.
Note:Replace the rear axle lubricantanytime the rear axle has been submergedin water.

These Tire Quality Grades aredetermined by standards that theUnited States Department ofTransportation has set.
Tire Quality Grades apply to newpneumatic passenger car tires.They do not apply to deep tread,winter-type snow tires,space-saver or temporary usespare tires, light truck or LT typetires, tires with nominal rimdiameters of 10 to 12 inches orlimited production tires as definedin Title 49 Code of FederalRegulations Part 575.104 (c)(2).
U.S. Department ofTransportation Tire qualitygrades: The U.S. Department ofTransportation requires us to giveyou the following informationabout tire grades exactly as thegovernment has written it.
Treadwear
The treadwear grade is acomparative rating based on thewear rate of the tire when testedunder controlled conditions on aspecified government test course.For example, a tire graded 150would wear 1½ times as well onthe government course as a tiregraded 100. The relativeperformance of tires dependsupon the actual conditions of theiruse, however, and may departsignificantly from the norm due tovariations in driving habits, servicepractices, and differences in roadcharacteristics and climate.

TIRE REPLACEMENT
REQUIREMENTS
AGE
WARNING: Tires degradeover time depending on manyfactors such as weather, storageconditions, and conditions of use(load, speed, inflation pressure)the tires experience throughouttheir lives.In general, tires should bereplaced after six yearsregardless of tread wear.However, heat caused by hotclimates or frequent high loadingconditions can accelerate theaging process and may requiretires to be replaced morefrequently.You should replace your sparetire when you replace the roadtires or after six years due toaging even if it has not beenused.
U.S. DOT Tire IdentificationNumber
Both United States and CanadaFederal regulations require tiremanufacturers to placestandardized information on thesidewall of all tires. Thisinformation identifies anddescribes the fundamentalcharacteristics of the tire and alsoprovides a U.S. DOT TireIdentification Number for safetystandard certification and in caseof a recall.
This begins with the letters DOTand indicates that the tire meetsall federal standards. The nexttwo numbers or letters are theplant code designating where itwas manufactured, the next twoare the tire size code and the lastfour numbers represent the weekand year the tire was built. Forexample, the numbers 317 meanthe 31st week of 1997. After 2000,the numbers go to four digits. Forexample, 2501 means the 25thweek of 2001. The numbers inbetween are identification codesused for traceability. Thisinformation is used to contactcustomers if a tire defect requiresa recall.
