4-1. Before driving
Driving
When the following unusual opera-
tion is performed with the accelera-
tor pedal depressed, the engine
output may be restrained.
• When the shift lever is shifted to
R*.
• When the shift lever is shifted
from P or R to forward drive shift
position such as D*. When the
system operates, a message
appears on the multi-information
display. Read the message and
follow the instruction.
*: Depending on the situation, the shift
position may not be changed.
■Drive-Start Control (DSC)
When the TRC is turned off ( P.302), sudden start restraint control also does not operate. If your vehicle have trouble
escaping from the mud or fresh snow due to sudden start restraint control operation, deactivate TRC ( P.302) so
that the vehicle may become able to escape from the mud or fresh snow.
NOTICE
●Changes in the quantity and quality of the engine oil, transmission fluid,
clutch fluid, differential oil, etc.
●Lubricant condition for the bearings
and suspension joints (where possi- ble), and the function of all joints, bearings, etc.

information about storage pre-
cautions, cargo capacity and
load:
WARNING
■Things that must not be carried in the luggage compartment
The following things may cause a fire if loaded in the luggage compartment:
●Receptacles containing gasoline
●Aerosol cans
■Storage precautions
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may prevent the ped-
als from being depressed properly, may block the driver’s vision, or may result in items hitting the driver or
passengers, possibly causing an acci- dent.
●Stow cargo and luggage in the lug-
gage compartment whenever pos- sible.
●Do not stack cargo and luggage in the luggage compartment higher than the seatbacks.
●When you fold down the rear seats, long items should not be placed
directly behind the front seats.
●Do not place cargo or luggage in or
on the following locations.
• At the feet of the driver
• On the front passenger or rear seats (when stacking items)
• On the luggage cover
• On the instrument panel
• On the dashboard

noise, shift the shift lever to D for nor-
mal driving.
■To protect the Multidrive
If the Multidrive fluid temperature is
high, “Transmission Oil Temp. High Stop in a Safe Place and See Owner’s Man-ual” will be displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display and the vehicle will go into transmission protection mode auto-matically. Have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■When driving with dynamic radar
cruise control or dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range (if equipped)
Even when switching the driving mode to power mode with the intent of enabling engine braking, engine braking
will not occur because dynamic radar cruise control or dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range will not be
canceled. ( P.299)

Indicates that the engine oil should be changed.
Check and change the engine oil, and
oil filter by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-able repairer. After changing the engine
oil, make sure to reset the message. ( P.356)
■If “Radar Cruise Control Temporar- ily Unavailable See Owner’s Man-
ual” is displayed (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system or the dynamic
radar cruise control system is sus- pended temporarily or until the problem shown in the message is resolved.

■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavail-
able” is displayed (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system or the dynamic
radar cruise control system cannot be used temporarily. Use the system when it becomes available again.
■If a message that indicates the

The system or part shown on the multi-
information display is malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.
■If a message that indicates the need for referring to Owner’s Man-
ual is displayed
●If “Engine Coolant Temp High Stop in
a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is displayed, follow the instructions accordingly. ( P.442)
●If “Transmission Oil Temp. High Stop in a Safe Place and See Owner’s
