To drive using temporary shift
range selection, operate the “-” or
“+” paddle shift switch.
When the “-” paddle shift switch is
operated, the gear step switches to
a range that enables engine brak-
ing force that is suitable to driving
conditions. When the “+” paddle
shift switch is operated, the gear
step switches to a step that is one
step higher than the current step.
Changing the gear step allows
restriction of the highest gear step,
preventing unnecessary upshifting
and enabling the level of engine
braking force to be selected.

The selected gear step, from D1 to
D10, will be displayed on the multi-
information display.
■Gear step functions
●10 levels of accelerating force and engine braking can be selected.
●A lower gear step will provide greater engine braking force than a higher
gear step, and the engine speed will also increase.
■Deactivation of temporary 10-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic mode
In the following situations, temporary 10- speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic mode will be deactivated:
●When the vehicle is stopped
●If the accelerator pedal is depressed continuously for more than a certain amount of time while in one gear step
●If the accelerator pedal is depressed
abruptly and heavily
●When the shift lever is shifted to a
position other than D
●When the “+” paddle shift switch is
operated for a certain amount of time continuously
■Downshifting restriction warning buzzer
To help ensure safety and driving perfor-

■To prevent an accident when releasing the shift lock
Before pressing the shift lock override button, make sure to set the parking brake and depress the brake pedal.
If the accelerator pedal is accidentally depressed instead of the brake pedal when the shift lock override button is
pressed and the shift lever is shifted out of P, the vehicle may suddenly start, possibly leading to an accident
resulting in death or serious injury.

sometimes be restricted. In some cir- cumstances, downshifting may not be possible even when the paddle shift
switch is operated. (A buzzer will sound twice.)
To enter 10-speed sport sequential
shiftmatic mode, shift the shift lever
to M position. Gear steps can then
be selected by operating the shift
lever or paddle shift switches (if
equipped), allowing you to drive in
the gear step of your choosing.

The gear step changes once every time
the shift lever or paddle shift switches (if
equipped) is operated.
The selected gear step, from M1 to
M10, will be displayed on the multi-
information display.
However, even when in the M posi-
tion, the gear steps will be automat-
ically changed if the engine speed
is too high, or too low.
■Gear step functions
●10 levels of accelerating force and engine braking can be selected.
●A lower gear step will provide greater engine braking force than a higher
gear step, and the engine speed will also increase.
■When the vehicle comes to a stop with the shift lever in the M position
●The transmission will automatically downshift to M1 once the vehicle is
stopped.
●After a stop, the vehicle will start off in
M1.
●When the vehicle is stopped, the
transmission is set at M1.
■Downshifting restriction warning buzzer
To help ensure safety and driving perfor-
mance, downshifting operation may sometimes be restricted. In some cir-cumstances, downshifting may not be
possible even when the shift lever or paddle shift switch is operated. (A buzzer will sound twice.)
■If the 10-speed sport sequential
shiftmatic mode indicator does not come on even after shifting the shift lever to M
This may indicate a malfunction in the Multidrive system. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.(In this situation, the transmission will
operate in the same manner as when the shift lever is in D.)

Turn the brake hold system on
The brake hold standby indicator
(green) comes on. While the system
is holding the brake, the brake hold
operated indicator (yellow) comes
on.
■Brake hold system operating con- ditions
The brake hold system cannot be turned on in the following conditions:
●The driver’s door is not closed.
●The driver is not wearing the seat belt.
●The parking brake is engaged.
If any of the conditions above are
detected when the brake hold system is enabled, the system will turn off and the brake hold standby indicator light will go
off. In addition, if any of the conditions are detected while the system is holding the brake, a warning buzzer will sound
and a message will be shown on the multi-information display. The parking brake will then be set automatically.
■Brake hold function
●If the brake pedal is left released for a period of about 3 minutes after the
system has started holding the brake, the parking brake will be set automati-cally. In this case, a warning buzzer
sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display.
●To turn the system off while the sys-tem is holding the brake, firmly
depress the brake pedal and press the button again.
●The brake hold function may not hold the vehicle when the vehicle is on a steep incline. In this situation, it may
be necessary for the driver to apply the brakes. A warning buzzer will sound and the multi-information dis-
play will inform the driver of this situa- tion. If a warning message is shown

Driving
This mode employs a radar to detect the presence of vehicles up to approx-
imately 100 m (328 ft.) ahead, d etermines the current vehicle-to-vehicle fol-
lowing distance, and operates to maintain a suitable following distance from
the vehicle ahead. The desired vehicle-to-vehicle distance can also be set
by operating the vehicle-to-vehicle distance switch.
When driving on downhill slopes, the vehicle-to-vehicle distanc e may become
shorter.
Example of constant speed cruising
When there are no vehicles ahead
The vehicle travels at the speed set by the driver.
Example of deceleration cruising and follow-up cruising
When a preceding vehicle driving slower than the set speed appe ars
When a vehicle is detected running ahead of you, the system automatically deceler-
ates your vehicle. When a greater reduction in vehicle speed is necessary, the sys-
tem applies the brakes (the stop lights will come on at this ti me). The system will
respond to changes in the speed of the vehicle ahead in order t o maintain the vehi-
cle-to-vehicle distance set by the driver. Approach warning war ns you when the sys-
tem cannot decelerate sufficiently to prevent your vehicle from closing in on the
vehicle ahead.
When the vehicle ahead of you stops, your vehicle will also sto p (vehicle is stopped
by system control). After the vehicle ahead starts off, pressin g the “+RES” switch or
depressing the accelerator pedal (start-off operation) will res ume follow-up cruising.
If the start-off operation is not performed, system control con tinues to keep your
vehicle stopped.

If a vehicle is running ahead of you, the
preceding vehicle mark will also be
displayed.
Select a distance from the table
below. Note that the distances
shown correspond to a vehicle
speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). Vehi-
cle-to-vehicle distance
increases/decreases in accor-
dance with vehicle speed. When
the vehicle is stopped by system
control, the vehicle stops at a cer-
tain vehicle-to-vehicle distance
depending on the situation.
After the vehicle ahead of you
starts off, press the “+RES” switch.
Your vehicle will also resume follow-up
cruising if the accelerator pedal is
depressed after the vehicle ahead of
you starts off.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with
Road Sign Assist can be
enabled/disabled in on the
multi-information display. ( P.457)
When the Dynamic Radar Cruise
Control with Road Sign Assist is
operating, while driving down a hill,
the vehicle speed may exceed the
set speed.
In this case, the displayed set vehi-
cle speed will be highlighted and a
buzzer will sound to alert the driver.
■Dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range can be set when
●The shift lever is in D.
●The desired set speed can be set when the vehicle speed is approxi-
mately 30 km/h (20 mph) or more. (However, when the vehicle speed is set while driving at below approxi-
mately 30 km/h [20 mph], the set speed will be set to approximately 30 km/h [20 mph].)
■Accelerating after setting the vehi-cle speed
The vehicle can accelerate by operating
the accelerator pedal. After accelerat- ing, the set speed resumes. However, during vehicle-to-vehicle distance con-
trol mode, the vehicle speed may decrease below the set speed in order to maintain the distance to the preceding
vehicle.
■When the vehicle stops while fol-
low-up cruising
●Pressing the “+RES” switch while the
vehicle ahead stops will resume fol- low-up cruising if the vehicle ahead starts off within approximately 3 sec-
onds after the switch is pressed.
●If the vehicle ahead starts off within 3
seconds after your vehicle stops, fol- low-up cruising will be resumed.
■Automatic cancelation of vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode
Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode is automatically canceled in the follow-ing situations.
●VSC is activated.
●TRC is activated for a period of time.
●When the VSC or TRC system is
turned off.
●The sensor cannot detect correctly
because it is covered in some way.
●When the brake control or output
restriction control of a driving support system operates. (For example: Pre-Collision System,
Drive-Start Control)
●The parking brake is operated.
●The vehicle is stopped by system con- trol on a steep incline.
●The following are detected when the vehicle has been stopped by system
control: • The driver is not wearing a seat belt.• The driver’s door is opened.
• The vehicle has been stopped for about 3 minutes
If vehicle-to-vehicle distance control
mode is automatically canceled for any reasons other than the above, there may be a malfunction in the system.
Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-able repairer.
■Automatic cancelation of constant
speed control mode
Constant speed control mode is auto- matically canceled in the following situa-

To change the set speed, press the
“+RES” or “-SET” switch until the
desired set speed is obtained.
1 Increases the speed
2 Decreases the speed
Fine adjustment: Press the switch in
the desired direction.
Large adjustment: Press and hold
switch.
The set speed will be increased or
decreased as follows:
Fine adjustment: By 1 km/h (0.6 mph)*1
or 1 mph (1.6 km/h)*2 each time the
switch is pressed
Large adjustment: Increases or
decreases in 5 km/h (3.1 mph)*1 or 5
mph (8 km/h)*2 increments for as long
as the switch is held
*1: When the set speed is shown in
“km/h”

“MPH”
1 Pressing the cancel switch can-
cels the speed limiter.
2 Pressing the “+RES” switch
resumes the speed limiter.
■Exceeding the set speed
In the following situations, the vehicle
speed exceeds the set speed and dis- play characters will flash:
●When fully depressing the accelerator pedal
●When driving down a slope
■Automatic speed limiter cancel-ation
The speed limiter is automatically can-
celed in any of the following situations:
●Dynamic radar cruise control is acti-
vated.
●When the VSC or TRC system is
turned off by pressing the VSC off switch.
■If the warning message for the speed limiter is shown on the multi-
information display
Stop the engine and then restart the engine. After restarting the engine, set
the speed limiter. If the speed limiter cannot be set, there may be a malfunc-tion in the speed limiter. Have the vehi-
cle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

●A sign resembling a system compati-
ble sign is recognized.
●Side road speed signs may be
detected and displayed (if positioned in sight of the front camera) while the vehicle is traveling on the main road.
●Roundabout exit road speed signs may be detected and displayed (if
positioned in sight of the front camera) while traveling on a roundabout.
●The front of the vehicle is raised or lowered due to the carried load.
●The surrounding brightness is not suf-ficient or changes suddenly.
●When a sign intended for trucks, etc., is recognized.
●The vehicle is driven in a country with a different direction of traffic.
●The 7-inch/8-inch display navigation system map data is outdated.
●The 7-inch/8-inch display navigation system is not operating.
●The speed information displayed on the meter and on the 7-inch/8-inch display navigation system may be dif-
ferent due to the 7-inch/8-inch display navigation system using map data.
■Speed limit sign display
If the engine switch was last turned off
while a speed limit sign was displayed on the multi-information display, the same sign displays again when the
engine switch is turned to ON.
■If “RSA Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is shown
The system may be malfunctioning.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
■Customization
Some functions can be customized. (Customizable features: P.457)

■Stopping the engine
1 Fully depress the clutch pedal
and depress the brake pedal to
stop the vehicle.
2 Move the shift lever to N and
release the clutch pedal. The
engine will stop automatically.
When the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, the Stop & Start indica-tor will illuminate.
■Restarting the engine
With the shift lever in N, depress
the clutch pedal. The engine will
start automatically.
Stop & Start system*
The Stop & Start system stops
and starts the engine accord-
ing to clutch pedal or shift
lever operation when the vehi-
cle is stopped, such as at a
stoplight, intersection, etc., in
order to improve fuel economy
and reduce noise pollution
caused by the engine idling.
