WARNING
●If the Pop Up Hood has oper-
ated, have it replaced by your
Toyota dealer. If the Pop Up
Hood has operated, stop the
vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact your Toyota dealer.
●Do not touch the lifters immedi-
ately after the Pop Up Hood has
operated, as the lifters may be
hot and burn you.
NOTICE
■Pop Up Hood precautions
●Make sure to close the hood
before driving, as the system
may not operate properly if the
hood is not fully closed.
●Make sure that all 4 tires are of
the specified size and inflated to
the specified tire pressure. If
tires of a different size are used,
the system may not operate
properly.
●If something has hit the area
around the front bumper, the
sensors may be damaged even
if the Pop Up Hood has not
operated. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Toyota
dealer.
●Do not remove or repair the
parts or wiring of the Pop Up
Hood, as doing so may cause
accidental operation or prevent
the system from operating prop-
erly. If repair or replacement is
necessary, contact your Toyota
dealer.
●Do not remove such compo-
nents as the front bumper, hood
or suspension, or replace them
with non-genuine parts, as
doing so may prevent the sys-
tem from operating properly.
●Do not install anything to the
front bumper or hood, as doing
so may prevent the sensors
from detecting an impact cor-
rectly and prevent the system
from operating properly.
●Do not close the hood with force
or apply load to the lifters, as
doing so may damage the lifters
and prevent the system from
operating properly.
●Do not modify the suspension,
as changes made to the vehicle
height may prevent the system
from operating properly.

Remove dirt and dust using a
vacuum cleaner. Wipe dirty
surfaces with a cloth damp-
ened with lukewarm water.
 If dirt cannot be removed,
wipe it off with a soft cloth
dampened with neutral deter-
gent diluted to approximately
1%.
Wring out any excess water
from the cloth and thoroughly
wipe off remaining traces of
detergent and water.
■Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foam-
ing-type cleaners available. Use a
sponge or brush to apply the foam.
Rub in overlapping circles. Do not
use water. Wipe dirty surfaces and
let them dry. Excellent results are
obtained by keeping the carpet as
dry as possible.
■Handling the seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm
water using a cloth or sponge. Also
check the belts periodically for
excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
■When cleaning the carpeted
portions of the glove box, con-
sole box, etc.
If a strong adhesive tape is used, there is a possibility that the surface
of the carpet could be damaged.

●Do not splash or spill liquid in
the vehicle, such as on the floor,

battery, electrical components,
etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
●Do not get any of the SRS com-
ponents or wiring in the vehicle
interior wet. ( P. 3 4 )
An electrical ma lfunction may
cause the airbags to deploy or
not function properly, resulting
in death or serious injury.
■Cleaning the interior (espe-
cially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish
cleaner. The instrument panel
may reflect off the windshield,
obstructing the driver’s view and
leading to an accident, resulting in
death or serious injury.

■Cleaning detergents
●Do not use the following types
of detergent, as they may dis-
color the vehicle interior or
cause streaks or damage to
painted surfaces:
• Areas other than the seats and steering wheel: Organic sub-
stances such as benzene or
gasoline, alkaline or acidic solu-
tions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solu- tions, such as th inner, benzene,
and alcohol

■After a fuse is replaced
●When installing the lid, make sure
that the tab is installed securely.
●If the lights do not turn on even
after the fuse has been replaced,
a bulb may need replacement.
●If the replaced fuse blows again,
have the vehicle inspected by
your Toyota dealer.
■If there is an overload in a cir-
cuit
The fuses are designed to blow, pro-
tecting the wiring harness from
damage.

 Make sure the vehicle has a
full tank of fuel and the area
around the headlight is not
deformed.
 Park the vehicle on level
ground.
 Make sure the tire inflation
pressure is at the specified
level.
 Have someone sit in the

■To prevent system break-
downs and vehicle fire
Observe the following precau-
tions.
Failure to do so may cause dam-
age to the vehicle, and possibly a
fire or injury.
●Never use a fuse of a higher
amperage rating than that indi-
cated, or use any other object in
place of a fuse.
●Always use a genuine Toyota
fuse or equivalent.
Never replace a fuse with a
wire, even as a temporary fix.
●Do not modify the fuses or fuse
boxes.

load determined and repaired by

When trouble arises

the sensor may n ot detect a pas-
senger, and the warning light may
not operate properly.
■SRS warning light
This warning light system monitors
the airbag sensor assembly, front
impact sensors, side impact sensors
(front door), side impact sensors
(front), side impact sensors (rear),
driver’s seat position sensor,
driver’s seat belt buckle switch, front
passenger occupant classification
system (ECU and sensors), “AIR-
BAG ON” indicator light, “AIRBAG
OFF” indicator light, front passen-
ger’s seat belt buc kle switch, seat
belt pretensioners, airbags, inter-
connecting wiring and power
sources. ( P. 3 4 )
■Electric power steering system
warning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge
becomes insufficien t or the voltage
temporarily drops, the electric power
steering system warning light may
come on and the warning buzzer
may sound.
■When the tire pressure warning
light comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is
punctured.
If a tire is punctured: P.455
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the power switch off then turn it
to ON. Check if the tire pressure
warning light comes on or blinks.
If the tire pressur e warning light
blinks for approximately 1 minute
then stays on
There may be a malfunction in the
tire pressure warning system. Have
the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer immediately.
If the tire pressur e warning light
comes on
1 After the temperature of the tires
has lowered sufficiently, check
the inflation pressure of each tire
and adjust them to the specified
level.
2 If the warning light does not turn
off even after several minutes
have elapsed, check that the
inflation pressure of each tire is
at the specified level and perform
initialization. ( P.407)
■The tire pressure warning light
may come on due to natural
causes
The tire pressure warning light may
come on due to natural causes such
as natural air leaks and tire inflation
pressure changes caused by tem-
perature. In this ca se, adjusting the
tire inflation pressure will turn off the
warning ligh t (after a few minutes).
■Conditions that the tire pres-
sure warning system may not
function properly

■If both the ABS and the brake
system warning lights remain
on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place
immediately and contact your Toy-
ota dealer.
The vehicle will become
extremely unstable during brak-
ing, and the ABS system may fail,
which could cause an accident
resulting in death o r serious injury.
